SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. 1. Teachers assigned to a school that utilizes the Montessori Teaching methodology and who teaches one or more Montessori Core Courses must successfully complete the American Montessori Society Training Program that is offered by a District approved institution. 2. Upon entry into a Board sponsored Montessori Training Program, the teacher must agree in writing to accept the assignment to the assigned school for a period not less than five (5) years. 3. Teachers assigned to a school that offers either the International Baccalaureate or Cambridge Training Program and who teach one or more program courses must successfully complete authorized International Baccalaureate or Cambridge Training. 4. Upon entry into a Board sponsored International Baccalaureate or Cambridge Training Program, the teacher must agree in writing to accept assignment to the assigned school for a period not less than three (3) years. 5. A teacher who accepts assignment to a school that offers the Montessori Program and subsequently expresses a professional conflict with the Montessori Teaching Philosophy may, not later than completion of the first Montessori Training course, request release from the commitment referenced in paragraph 2 above and may request the transfer or reassignment pursuant to the provisions of Article Twenty-Five of this Agreement. 6. These provisions apply at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year as follows: • The provisions outlined above shall apply to a teacher entering a Montessori Training Program, International Baccalaureate Training Program, or Cambridge Training Program and who is teaching the required number of classes. • For teachers who are fully trained and are teaching in such programs, they will not be required to make a five (5) or three
SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board agrees, to the best of its ability, to maintain an adequate pool of substitute teachers. Teachers shall log their absence in the district’s electronic substitute management system at least one (1) hour before scheduled reporting time or no later than 6:30 a.m., whichever is earlier to report unavailability for work. It is understood that earlier calls are desirable to ensure adequate substitute coverage. Once a teacher has reported unavailability, it shall be the responsibility of the administration to arrange for a substitute teacher.
SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. Assignments for the Adult Education, Driver Education and Summer School Program will be made by the Board on the basis of preference to teachers possessing permanent teaching certificates regularly employed in the district during the normal school year.

Said preference in assignments shall be limited to the District’s academic classes and/or courses offered for credit during the regular school year.

SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. A. The Board agrees at all times to maintain an adequate list of substitute teachers. Teachers shall be informed of a telephone number they will call no later than one and one-half (1 1/2) hours prior to the start of the student classes to report unavailability for work. B. Assignments for the Adult Education, Driver Education and Summer School programs shall be made according to Article XIII. C. In order to implement a Mentor Teacher Program, the District and the Association hereby agree to the following purposes for mentoring: • To provide a nurturing, ongoing support system for new teachers through a personal and professional relationship with an experienced fellow teacher; • To provide increased levels of understanding and skills in teaching for new classroom teachers in the district; • To create a challenging yet nurturing teaching environment in our school that will encourage new teachers to commit to the teaching profession and to the goals of this school community. 1. Each new teacher in his or her first three years in the classroom shall be assigned a mentor teacher. The selection of the mentors will be made in a timely manner through a collaborative effort made by two administrators and two staff members selected by the Association. Criteria in the selection will include: a. Tenured teachers names will be maintained on a voluntary list until the teacher requests removal from this list. b. Every effort will be made by the district to match mentors and new teachers who work in the same building and have a similar area of certification or assignment. c. Consideration will be given to mentor and new teacher with a common planning time/lunch time when possible. If no common planning time is available, release time shall be arranged through the building principal. d. All appointments as mentor teachers will be voluntary. e. Appointments for the mentor will be for three years to be reviewed at the end of each semester or unless either party requests a change through their building principal or the selection committee. 2. Both the new teacher and the mentor teacher will be required to keep a log of their interactions. Attendance at conferences or any activities that would be related to this process should be logged. This form is not to be used in any form of teacher evaluation or teacher reprimand. Its purpose is for logging time spent between mentor/mentee only. 3. SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. A. Any assignments (job opening) including additional hours in the school system for which a certified teacher is required will be posted in each teachers' lounge. B. The Board agrees at all times to maintain an adequate list of substitute teachers. Teachers shall be informed of a telephone number they may call between 6:30 and 7:00 A.M. to report unavailability for work. Once a teacher has reported unavailability, it shall be the responsibility of the administration to arrange for a substitute teacher. The use of regular teachers as substitute teachers shall be avoided whenever possible. C. Anyone asked to substitute more than ten (10) consecutive days and who is qualified to teach in that area is to be protected by a written agreement with a salary based on a 1/ teacher contract days per attendance day of his/her step on the salary scale starting with the eleventh (11th) teaching day. D. Staff filling less than a full-time position may engage in additional work at the current hourly rate of pay as per Appendix A. E. By mutual agreement the Board and Association agree to accept the guidelines established by the Instructional Council governing the placement and supervision of student teachers and the responsibilities of the supervisory master teacher.
SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. Special teaching assignments in the district shall be subject to the following provisions: 1. Preference will be given to teachers regularly employed in the district on the basis of qualifications. If two (2) employees are deemed to be equal regarding qualifications, then certification, effectiveness, experience and seniority will be considered. 2. Contracts for summer school programs shall be offered to teachers at the earliest possible date. 3. All teaching conditions, which prevail during the "regular" school year, shall also prevail during the summer, adult education and evening school programs. 4. Summer school teachers shall be entitled to two (2) summer school days of sick leave with no deductions from pay. Such sick leave shall not be accumulated from summer to summer, nor added to or deducted from a teacher's regular sick or emergency leave accumulation. 5. Compensation for teaching, under this provision of the contract, shall be paid at the rate of not less than 1/1250 of base pay during the duration of this Agreement. 6. CyberSchool Coordinators–Coordinators at Central High School with a combination of CyberSchool and traditional students will be compensated seventy-five dollars ($75) per student, per semester for each student above 75.
SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS. A. Teachers, who are willing to accept teaching assignments for special, Board approved after school and summer school programs, may be asked to accept these assignments for hours when they are in demand because of student enrollment and preference. B. Placement of the third student teacher per semester in the Madison District Schools shall not occur without the consent of the Executive Board of the Madison Education Association. Supervision by a teacher of a student teacher shall be voluntary, and no teacher shall supervise more than one (1) student teacher per year.
