Common use of STANDARD WORK HOURS Clause in Contracts

STANDARD WORK HOURS. The Company and the Union agree that: (a) The standard work day shall consist of eight (8) hours and the standard work week shall consist of forty (40) hours Monday to Friday inclusive. It is understood each employee's work schedule shall provide for five (5) consecutive shifts with the same starting and stopping times. Hours of work shall provide for a lunch period of one-half (1/2) hour to commence between 4 to 5 hours after start of shift. Shifts will commence as follows: Day Shift: 07:00 Afternoon Shift: 15:00 Night Shift: 23:00 The Company may vary an employee(s)' designated shift start time by up to two (2) hours to meet operational requirements. (b) Boat Shift hours will be aligned in accordance with those of the Longshoremen where required to unload the boats. (c) For the purpose of calculating weekly earnings, a week is defined as a period from 2300 hours Saturday to 2300 hours the following Saturday. (d) Work schedules will be posted each week by 1400 hours Thursday and shall cover a three-week period. Changes for the first week's schedule may be made without paying overtime penalty rates up to 2300 hours of the Saturday prior to the commencement of the schedule, if required because of absenteeism. The second and third week's schedules are posted for information only and changes can be made at any time without penalty.
