Student Discipline. 1. The Employer shall support and assist bargaining unit members with respect to the maintenance of control and discipline of students in the bargaining unit members' assigned work areas. Bargaining unit members may use such reasonable physical force with a student as is necessary to protect the personal safety of themselves or staff members, visitors, or other students, or to prevent damage to district property. Employees should be familiar with alternatives to corporal punishment as listed in Board of Education Guideline 5630.

Written discipline reports shall include, but not be limited to: the LEA student’s name; the time, date, and description of the misconduct; the disciplinary action taken by CONTRACTOR; and the rationale for such disciplinary action. A copy of the LEA student’s behavior plan, if any, shall be submitted with the written discipline report. The District shall provide reasonable support and assistance to teachers as described in the Student Behavior Handbook so they can maintain control and discipline while engaged in their duties and responsibilities. It is essential for the school staff to establish means for obtaining the cooperation of parents of students involved in discipline problems. B. A positive disciplinary program shall be continued in each school. Each teacher shall be given a copy of the school's disciplinary policy as developed and/or modified by the principal, Instructional Council and/or faculty. C. The principal has the primary responsibility for administering the school’s disciplinary policy. The teacher may temporarily dismiss a student from class to the principal when the student's behavior is disruptive to the point of impeding learning by the other students and after efforts have been made to correct the problem in accordance with the school's disciplinary practice. 1. The teacher shall furnish the principal in writing full particulars of the incident including the efforts that have been made to correct the problem and whether or not the student may be returned to class prior to a conference between the teacher and principal. 2. Before the principal returns the student to the classroom, the principal shall inform the teacher of the corrective measures taken. 3. In cases of extreme or chronic student disruption to a classroom, the teacher may call a case conference with the principal, parents and others as necessary for the purposes of discussing the problem and determining and initiating corrective measures. Student Discipline. In the maintenance of a sound learning environment, the District shall expect acceptable behavior on the part of all students who attend schools in the District. Discipline shall be enforced fairly and consistently regardless of race, creed, sex, or status. Such discipline shall be consistent with applicable federal and state laws. The Board and superintendent shall support and uphold employees in their efforts to maintain discipline in the District, and shall give immediate response to all employees’ requests regarding discipline problems. Further, the authority of employees to use reasonable disciplinary measures for the safety and well-being of students and employees is supported by the Board. In the exercise of authority by an employee to control and maintain order and discipline, the employee may use reasonable and professional judgment concerning matters not provided for by specific policies adopted by the Board and not inconsistent with federal or state laws or regulations. District Policy No. 3200 is referenced under this section. Each teacher is empowered to exclude from his or her classroom, instructional area, or activity area, for all or any portion of the balance of the school day or until the principal/designee confer (whichever occurs first), any student who creates a disruption of the educational process in violation of the building or District disciplinary standards while under the teacher's immediate supervision. In no event, without the consent of the teacher, shall an excluded student be returned during the balance of the class, activity, or instructional period from which the student was removed. Except in emergency circumstances, a teacher who removes a student, as explained above, must first have attempted one or more alternative forms of corrective action as required by state statute. Student Discipline. A. The Board of Education and the Association agree that effective pupil control and discipline is prerequisite to effective teaching and learning. The staff and administration shall be responsible to handle and correct the behavior of any student who disregards school rules and regulations. B. D. Administrators and unit members shall assume responsibility for the education and control of the student body, both in and out of the classroom. It shall be the responsibility of administrators and the unit member to see that all school rules and regulations are adhered to during the school day and/or when officially associated with an authorized school function. E. The Board, through the chief administrator, shall instruct the building principals and all other personnel to offer full support and cooperation in an effort to ensure compliance to all school regulations. F. In the event the regulations are being ignored by any party, such regulations shall be evaluated. If found to be sound, immediate compliance shall be stressed to all parties. However, if found to be obsolete or otherwise unsound, it shall be immediately withdrawn from operation. G. Building level discipline committees will be established in each of the District’s schools. Said committees shall consist of an administrator and one teacher from each house/team, two special teachers, and one special education teacher in grades K-8 and each department in grades 9-12 as selected by the building teaching staff. Student Discipline. A. Student discipline is based on the requirement that all students must adhere to a code of behavior and to conform with all school rules and regulations.
Student Discipline. The Board and the teachers recognize their mutual obligation for maintaining proper control and discipline in the classroom and other school related activities. In taking disciplinary actions, teachers shall use reasonable and just methods in accordance with the District's established disciplinary process. The Board shall provide support and assistance to teachers with respect to the maintenance of control and discipline in accordance with the District's policies. 1. The Administration will confer with teachers, parents, and students in the establishment of rules and regulations which set forth the procedures to be utilized in disciplining, suspending, and expelling students for misbehavior. Such rules and regulations shall be distributed to teachers, parents and students at the commencement of each year. 2. Whenever it appears to the classroom teacher that a pupil and/or pupils require the attention of special counselors, social workers, law enforcement personnel, physicians or other professional persons, a recommendation will be submitted in writing to the Administration and such action as the Administration deems appropriate will be taken. The principal will communicate with the teacher concerning disposition of such cases. 3. A teacher may exclude a pupil from class temporarily when the grossness of the offense, the persistence of the misbehavior, or the disruptive effect on the rest of the class makes the continued presence of the student in the classroom intolerable, in which event the teacher must escort the pupil to the principal's office and turn the student over to the principal or the principal's designee. In the event the principal or his designee is not readily available, the teacher may place the student under the control of another teacher for security purposes until the principal or his designee arrives. It is understood that removing a student from class is a last resort measure and students on the secondary level will not be returned to that particular class the same day, thus allowing the teacher to fully communicate with the principal and minimizing the disruption to the rest of the students. The building administrator shall take action based on what has been communicated to him with respect to the student matter. In the event the principal or his designee or another teacher is not readily available to assume responsibility for the student, the teacher must be prepared to take the student back to the classroom until assistance arrives.
