Study Location. The Study shall take place at HUVH and VHIR facilities, using the resources of these institutions. Specifically, the Study shall take place in the [•] Service of the HUVH.
Study Location. Once a CAS number has been issued, no further changes to study location are permitted.
Study Location. This project was a small-scale patient interview project. It was completed at a nursing home in Atlanta, Georgia. This nursing home is part of Emory Healthcare, meaning that no further research proposal was necessary aside from Emory IRB. This facility includes both short- term and long-term patients. There were no specific demographic or socioeconomic background affiliations sought out for this study, making residents at this nursing home an acceptable patient pool for this research.
Study Location. Zamfara State, located in northwestern Nigeria, has an estimated population of 3.8 million, of which 20% are estimated to be children <5 years old. Zamfara has 14 local government areas, similar to counties in the US. The population is predominantly Muslim, and the traditional religious leadership system, chaired by local Emirs, has strong political and social influence. Farming is the major livelihood, with >80% of the population participating in agriculture. The ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Demographic and Health Survey showed that in Zamfara State, 19% of households had access to electricity, 28% had access to an improved source of water, and 27% had improved sanitation facilities (DHS, 2009).
Study Location. The original study was conducted in Surat, Gujarat. Surat, with a population of about 4.5 million people, is one of India’s largest economies and the fourth fastest growing city in the world (Census Population 2015 Data, 2015b; City Mayors Statistics). Surat is a major contributor to the Indian export industry, especially in diamonds and textiles (Sen, Solanki, & ▇▇▇▇▇, 2013; ▇▇▇▇▇▇, 2015). Based on the most recent statewide HIV surveillance report, HIV positivity in Surat is 14.4% among high-risk patients at STI clinics, and 0.75% among low-risk patients at antenatal clinics (Gujarat State AIDS Control Society, 2008). These numbers are much higher than the overall HIV prevalence in Gujarat, which is about 0.44% (National AIDS Control Organisation, 2015). This particularly high prevalence is thought to be influenced by the large number of migrants that have been attracted to the area by the strong economy and increased need for unskilled labor (▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇). A national report of migrants found that 52% of male migrants are motivated by employment opportunities. This same report found that Surat is home to 58% of the total migrant population which is more than any other city in India (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), 2013). Migrant workers who are living away from their families and are having unprotected sex with female sex workers are believed to be contributing to HIV prevalence among married men in India (▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al., 2011). This route of transmission then contributes to HIV risk for married women (▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇, & ▇▇▇▇▇▇, 2007). Surat also has the largest chapter of the Gujarat State Network of Positives (GSNP+) and the largest Voluntary Testing and Counseling Center (VCTC) in the state (GSNP-Positive, 2015). Notably, about 75% of cases of serodiscordant, married couples from GSNP+ and VCTC have HIV-positive husbands and HIV-negative wives (▇. ▇▇▇▇▇ et al., 2016). Thus, this area of Gujarat was ideal for studying the transmission of HIV among married couples.
Study Location. The Separation Lake greenstone belt is located just east of the Ontario-Manitoba border, 60 km north of the town of Kenora and 90 km south of Red Lake (Figure 1). The study area covers approximately 2.5, 1:50 000 scale NTS sheets, including: 1) the Umfreville Lake map sheet (NTS 52 L/7) bounded by longitudes 94o30'W, 95o00'W and latitudes 50o15'N, 50o30'N; 2) the Separation Lake map sheet (NTS 52 L/8) bounded by longitudes 94o30'W, 94o00'W and latitudes 50o15'N, 50o30'N; 3) the eastern third of the Ryerson Lake map sheet (NTS 52 L/6) bounded by longitudes 95o00'W, 95o09'10"W and latitudes 50o15'N, 50o30'N; and 4) the northern third of the Whitedog Lake and Lount Lake map sheets (NTS 52 L/2; 52 L/1) bounded by longitudes 94o45'25"W, 94o15'40"W and latitudes 50o10'37"N and 50o15'N.
Study Location. The web-based survey was made available to undergraduate students at Emory University, a private, predominantly White institution (PWI) located in the Southeastern sector of the U.S. Emory resides in an urban area with a residential campus of approximately 15,909 students, of which 8,155 are undergraduates (Emory University Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support, 2022). The Emory Institutional Review Board approved all procedures for obtaining informed consent and protecting human participants. Study procedures were also supported by a grant from the Emory Undergraduate Research program.
