Transfer Outside the Bargaining Unit. (a) An employee, who is transferred to a position outside of the bargaining unit for a period of not more than twelve (12) months shall, subject to (c) below, retain, but not accumulate, her seniority held at the time of transfer. In the event the employee is returned to a position in the bargaining unit, she/he shall be credited with seniority held at the time of transfer and resume accumulation from date of her/his return to the bargaining unit. (b) In the event that an employee is transferred to a position outside of the bargaining unit for a period in excess of twelve (12) months, she will lose all seniority held at the time of transfer. In the event the employee is returned to a position in the bargaining unit, the employee's seniority will accrue from the date of her/his return to the bargaining unit. (c) It is understood and agreed that the periods of time referred to above may be extended by written agreement of the parties which would include a defined period of time. (d) The Employer will notify the Bargaining Unit President in writing of any bargaining unit member who accepts a temporary transfer out of the bargaining unit. Such notification will include the defined period of time.
