UNION MEMBERSHIP AND CHECKOFF. 5.01 Neither the Employer nor the Union will compel employees to join the Union. The Employer will not discriminate against any employee because of Union membership or lack of it, and will inform all new employees of the contractual relationship between the Employer and the Union. 5.02 The Union agrees that it shall make membership in the Union available to all employees covered by this Agreement. 5.03 The Employer is authorized and shall deduct each month an amount equal to Union dues from each employee's pay. Such deductions shall go into effect with the first complete month of employment of the employee. The Employer shall also deduct any administrative dues authorized by the particular employee owing to the Union. 5.04 The total amount checked off will be turned over to the Union treasurer each month within a week after the checkoff is made, together with an itemized list of the employees for whom the deductions are made and the amount checked off for each. The Employer shall not deduct more than one month's dues from any one pay cheque of an employee. The Employer shall be saved harmless for all deductions and payments made. 5.05 Employees who cannot support the Union because of conscientious objection, as determined by the Union’s internal guidelines, may apply to the Union in writing.

This will be submitted with the dues.
