Common use of Union Shop Stewards Clause in Contracts

Union Shop Stewards. A Union party to this Agreement may appoint a shop ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ in the various City departments affected by this Agreement. Immediately after appointment of its shop ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇(s), each Union must furnish the Seattle Department of Human Resources and the affected Department(s) with a list of those employees who have been designated as shop stewards and their area of responsibility. Failure to provide such a list and/or disagreement over the number and/or area of responsibility of shop stewards between the City and a Union covered by this Agreement shall result in non-recognition by the City of the appointed shop stewards in question. The City must notify the affected Union within fifteen (15) calendar days of receipt of the Union's list or revised list if it objects to the number and/or area of responsibility of appointed shop stewards. Where there is a disagreement over the number and/or area of responsibility of appointed shop stewards, said issues shall be discussed between the City and the affected Union. If the parties cannot mutually resolve their differences, the issues shall be submitted to the Labor-Management Committee for final resolution. The list shall also be updated as needed. Shop stewards shall perform their regular duties as such but shall function as the Union's representative on the job solely to inform the Union of any alleged violations of this Agreement and process grievances relating thereto; provided however, temporary employees may serve as shop stewards to inform the Union of any alleged violations of this Agreement that apply to temporary employees only and may process grievances relating thereto. Union Shop Stewards. A A. The Union party shall be entitled to designate a reasonable number of employees to act as Shop Stewards for the employees covered by this Agreement Agreement. Specifically, the Union may appoint a shop designate up to three (3) Shop Stewards. Should the number of bargaining unit members increase such that the ratio of Shop Stewards to employees in the bargaining unit becomes 1:35, the Union shall be permitted to add an additional Shop ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇. The Union shall furnish the Director of Employee & Labor Relations with the names of the employees selected as Shop Stewards. An alternate Shop ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ may be appointed to function in the various City departments affected by this Agreement. Immediately after appointment absence of its shop the regular Shop ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇(s). Any change in the appointment of the designated Stewards shall be made known to the Director of Employee & Labor Relations. B. Union business/activities, each Union must furnish other than reasonable time spent in investigation of grievances prior to formal filing and investigation of employee complaints, shall not be conducted on an employee's scheduled work time except as specifically provided for in other section(s) of this Agreement; nor shall such business/activities interfere with University programs and operations. C. The University is prohibited from imposing or threatening to impose reprisals, from discriminating or threatening to discriminate against Shop Stewards or otherwise interfering with, restraining, or coercing Shop Stewards because of the Seattle Department exercise of Human Resources and the affected Department(s) with a list of those employees who have been designated as shop stewards and their area of responsibility. Failure to provide such a list and/or disagreement over the number and/or area of responsibility of shop stewards between the City and a Union covered any rights given by this Agreement shall result in non-recognition by the City of the appointed shop stewards in questionAgreement.
