Use of Preparation Time. Preparation and conference time, being part of the teacher's workday, is expected to be used for school-related duties, conferences with students, parents, administrators, or other teachers, or work on various committees. If any of these duties necessitate leaving the building, the teacher shall request permission from the principal in his/her building. If the principal is not available, the teacher will sign out of the office. The teacher will leave information on how he/she can be contacted.
Use of Preparation Time. It shall not be the policy of the Committee to require teachers to use their preparation period for substituting for other teachers. The Committee will make every effort to provide substitutes. In situations where substitutes are necessary but not available, the principal may assign a teacher to use his/her preparation period for substituting. A substituting teacher will be paid thirty-three dollars ($33.00) effective September 1, 2019.Teachers shall use their preparation periods to prepare for their professional responsibilities. Administration may not require teachers to perform other duties during their preparation periods.
Use of Preparation Time. Teachers may use preparation time to prepare lessons and materials for assigned classes, to conduct conferences, to evaluate student work, to collaborate voluntarily with colleagues, and to perform other tasks related to their assignment. The specific work to be performed during preparation time will generally be within the teacher’s professional discretion as long as it is aligned with the teacher’s professional responsibilities. Principals and other administrators will not regularly schedule meetings during preparation time except for the purpose of the performance and evaluation process (i.e. pre and post observation conferences).

If a meeting is scheduled that is in conflict with an employee’s planned use of preparation 2 time, every effort should be made by the scheduler to accommodate a change in meeting 3 date/time, and sufficient advanced notice be provided for future meeting(s). 4 c. Meetings that must take place during preparation time should be as brief as possible.
Use of Preparation Time. Planning time referred to in this contract shall be used for classroom preparation and parental, student, and staff consultations.

Related to Use of Preparation Time

  • Preparation Time 1. Each full-time elementary teacher shall receive 100 minutes of preparation time per week scheduled in accordance with the Previous Collective Agreement. 2. Effective June 30, 2019, each full-time elementary teacher shall receive 110 minutes of preparation time per week scheduled in accordance with the Previous Collective Agreement. 3. Preparation time for part time teachers shall be provided in accordance with the Previous Collective Agreement.
