Vision and Mission. The University of Divinity's mission is to promote excellence in education, research and engagement in theology and associated disciplines. Its primary focus over the term of this Compact is to grow partnerships with employers, including churches, religious orders, faith-based agencies, schools and hospitals, to deliver research outcomes and to form graduates equipped for the service of others. FRENCH REVIEW: MODEL CODE ON FREE SPEECH AND ACADEMIC FREEDOM The University of Divinity Act 1910 (Victoria) requires that the University does not impose a religious test on students or staff. This has enshrined the principle of free speech and academic freedom in the University's culture and conduct since its inception, and facilitated a culture of free and open enquiry vital in the field of theology and religious studies. The University's Vision statement further supports this aim by aspiring to "critical engagement" in the University's activities. In response to the French Review recommendations the University of Divinity has amended its Code of Conduct (mandatory for all Council and committee members, students and staff) to include a requirement to "promote the responsible exercise of academic freedom and academic judgement". The University has decided that adoption of the Model Code is unnecessary at this time but has the matter under review. ▇▇▇▇▇://▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇.▇▇▇.▇▇/▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇-▇▇-▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇/▇▇▇▇▇-▇▇/▇▇▇-▇▇▇▇▇▇-▇▇▇-▇▇▇▇▇▇▇/ ▇▇▇▇▇://▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇.▇▇▇.▇▇/▇▇▇▇▇/▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇-▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇/ ▇▇▇▇▇://▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇.▇▇▇.▇▇/▇▇▇▇-▇▇-▇▇▇▇▇▇▇/

Vision and Mission. The current context has made the Canadian Churches Forum less able to function as a Forum or networking/collaboration table. The Canadian Churches Forum seeks to return to its mandate of being a table around which denominations collaborate ecumenically: a place where denominations can do together what none are able to do alone (The ▇▇▇▇ principle). The current context globally and within Canada raises questions around mission, evangelism, and culture. CCF would be a space within the CCC where there could be significant conversation around these issues. Some current examples could include: • Animating in the Canadian context the 2013 Busan, Korea WCC affirmation: Together Towards Life: Mission and Evangelism in Changing Landscapes • Follow up to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and process of ongoing church engagement with First Nations (including both the churches that ran residential schools and those that were not directly involved) • Networking work done around the Doctrine of Discovery • Acting as a hub drawing together people working on intercultural ministry in Canada
Vision and Mission. The vision for Soul of The City is to ensure that Atlanta can achieve inclusive prosperity for its residents alongside the development of its tech cluster. The mission is to establish a public private partnership between private firms and local city government to support the equitable 229 Mariel Reed, “A Collaboration Canvas for Government Innovators | Apolitical,” March 13, 2018, https://apolitical.co/en/solution_article/a-collaboration-canvas-for-government-innovators. growth of Atlanta’s tech cluster, engaging with the community through a focus on education and entrepreneurship. As discussed in Chapter 4, Atlanta’s history of racism and white flight had a significant impact on the development of Atlanta’s public schools. The Atlanta Public School system has historically struggled with funding, facing exploitation of funds from private real estate interests among various other issues.230 Additionally, most schools are in neighborhoods that have been impoverished for decades, which often correlates with lower high school graduation rates.231 If residents are not well-educated, a tech cluster cannot truly flourish. The education component of the program may implement two goals: a) to incentivize students from disadvantaged backgrounds to enroll in college and b) support the development of a computer science curriculum. Further support from technology companies involved in the Soul of the City partnership could help to advance computer science curriculum in collaboration with leading computer science educators from local universities like Georgia Tech. These goals have already been identified through the Georgia Tech’s Constellations Center for Equity in Computing, which works to implement computer science curriculums in public schools. Leveraging the partnerships of Soul of the City may serve to strengthen such pre-existing programs.232 Aside from education, supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses will be critical to ensuring that the city maintains its character and identity, while promoting inclusive prosperity.
