WORK YEAR/WORK DAY. A. The work year shall consist of not more than one hundred eighty-five (185) days, including instructional days, professional days, pre-school days, and work days. New teachers work an additional three (3) days for mandatory new teacher orientation. New teachers will be paid a stipend of $200.00 per day, to be paid on the first day of school, upon completion of the three (3) days of new teacher orientation. The instructional day is a day devoted to instruction, preparation, parent-teacher conferences, and/or in-service activities. If the Board should desire a calendar longer than one hundred eighty-five (185) days, negotiations will resume at that point on that issue only.
B. The teacher work day for the Member of the Bargaining Unit shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours, twenty (20) minutes, exclusive of a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch. Within this seven (7) hour, twenty (20) minute teacher work day, Members of the Bargaining Unit will have a minimum of ten (10) minutes preparation time before student contact begins and after student contact ends, unless a rotating duty is assigned. Other contract days shall consist of not more than six (6) hours, exclusive of a lunch break. Professional development day hours are 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Should the Administration decide that blocks of time past the contract day are necessary to accommodate Parent-Teacher conferences, then compensatory time will be granted in a manner that allows for an extended weekend within the week of the final additional time.
C. Members of the Bargaining Unit will attend scheduled in-service activities and meetings on professional, pre-school, and work days. Members of the Bargaining Unit will be expected to attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings and specially called faculty meetings which may not extend more than one hour beyond the regular contract day. Teachers who cannot attend specially called meeting shall make arrangements with the appropriate administrator. If leave other than school business is utilized on a professional development day, the principal will assign a make-up activity for the teacher to complete.
D. For the purpose of compensation only, per diem will be calculated on the basis of the instructional, professional, pre-school, and work days in the current work year.

WORK YEAR/WORK DAY. The work year* for all Members of the Bargaining Unit shall be one hundred eighty-two (182) days which shall include:
A. Not to exceed one hundred seventy-five (175) days of instruction, which includes two (2) parent-teacher conference days. Parent-teacher conference days will be scheduled over two (2) days. A total of six (6) hours must be allotted for conferences. Members shall designate which portions of the workday are available for the requisite conference times. In the event of school days being canceled by order of the Superintendent for weather and/or disaster events, Members of the Bargaining Unit will not be required to make up lost work days provided the State-defined student minimum of 1080 hours has been met.
B. Three (3) in-service days prior to the first day of instruction with a fourth in-service day as a site improvement day.
C. One (1) record day at the end of the first semester and one (1) record day at the end of the second semester. Each site principal shall have the flexibility to determine alternate attendance and dismissal requirements for the last record day, not to exceed the normal workday. Definition: Record day is to be used to tabulate and record grades.
D. One (1) day to be selected by the Association for a spring professional meeting for all Members of the Bargaining Unit. All Members shall be assigned appropriate starting and dismissal times, provided that their workday shall be no longer than seven and one-quarter (7¼) consecutive hours. *For purposes of compensation only, per diem is calculated on the basis of one hundred eighty-two (182) days for the current work year. WORK YEAR/WORK DAY. The work year shall be one hundred eight-four (184) days. The added day shall be used as one-half (½) day of in-service and one-half (½) as a day for teachers to work in their classrooms.

Child Study Team Work Year The total number of working days for Child Study Team members may exceed the limitation in Section A.1. above, provided the employees are compensated the following number of hours at the hourly curriculum rate for each pupil evaluation performed beyond the regular work year: The staff member serving as case manager will be given an additional 4 - 5 hours. The Director of Pupil Services shall determine the appropriate number of hours to be compensated within the above ranges based on the circumstances of the particular evaluation. Additional hours may be provided at the discretion of the Director of Pupil Services based on extenuating circumstances.
B. Work Day
WORK YEAR/WORK DAY. The contractual work year shall consist of 192 working days for the duration of the Agreement. Guidance counselors shall work an additional fifteen (15) days (high school) or an additional ten (10) days (all other schools) beyond the contracted work year. School social workers shall work an additional forty (40) days beyond the contracted work year. School psychologists and speech-language pathologists shall work an additional eight (8) days beyond the contracted work year during the term of the Agreement. School nurses shall work an additional day beyond the contracted work year during the term of the Agreement. Special education teachers shall work an additional day beyond the contracted work year during the term of the Agreement. The Employer shall have the sole discretion, within the constraints of its legal authority, to establish the calendar for the work year. However, it can be reasonably anticipated that contractual work days will be allocated as follows during the term of this Agreement:

7-1 The work year of teachers (other than new personnel who may be required to attend two (2) additional days of orientation) shall be 185 days. It shall include the 180 student days plus 5 professional development days. The work year for teachers will not start earlier than the Monday preceding Labor Day and end no later than June 30th. Teachers will be provided with a half day for classroom preparation during one of the professional development days that is scheduled prior to the start of the first day of school for students.
7-2 A copy of the school calendar including the student day will be given to the Educators' Association as soon as it is established by the School Committee.
7-3 The starting and dismissal time for students are subject to modification by the Committee, provided that no such modification will increase the length of the instructional day and/or the teacher’s workday. For the purpose of clarification, the student day will begin upon the start of instruction. The work day of the teachers at all levels will be seven (7) hours and five (5) minutes long. The student hours will be 6:35 minutes in length at BHS & WMS and 6:30 minutes in length for Park Avenue
7-4 The work day of high school teachers will begin FIFTEEN (15) minutes before the designated starting time for students and will end fifteen (15) minutes after the dismissal time, except as to the teachers' professional obligation to provide extra help for students. Teachers at the middle school will begin fifteen (15) minutes before the designated starting time for students and will end fifteen (15) minutes after the dismissal time, except as to the teachers' professional obligation to provide extra help for students as described below. Teachers at the elementary school will begin fifteen (15) minutes before the designated starting time for students and will end twenty (20) minutes after the dismissal time, except as to the teachers' professional obligation to provide extra help for students as described below. On Fridays and days before holidays, a teacher may leave once all assigned responsibilities are met.
7-5 Teachers who meet with co-workers district wide on professional development days may have their work day start and end times adjusted by administration, but they will not work more than 7 hours, including a 30 minute duty free lunch.

WORK YEAR/WORK DAY.
13.1 The Employer will determine the workday and the length of the work year annually for both school-year and year-around staff. Staff will be scheduled to work, at the minimum, on all days when students are in attendance. Before the schedule is published, Union representatives may request to meet with the Employer to provide input on the calendar.
13.2 A tentative schedule for the workday and work year will be provided in writing to school-year employees by July 22 of each year.

13.4 Due to operational and educational program requirements, changes in the work schedule may occur from time to time. For any change from the tentative schedule, the Employer shall notify all affected employees.

13.6 Changes in the work schedule may need to be made for an emergency or new information obtained that is beyond the Employee’s control Employer. Such schedule changes will be made in writing to the affected employees at least ten (10) workdays before the change, except in the case of emergency, as determined by the Employer.
13.7 If the Employer determines that additional short-term work is available during the year, , a job posting with the relevant job duties, length of the assignment, and pay rate will be made in accordance with Article 16.
13.8 Full-time staff, except bus drivers, are entitled to a thirty (30) minute paid lunch break daily. The time of the lunch break is determined by the supervisor but will be scheduled as near to the middle of the shift as possible. During this time, staff are “on-call" and may not leave the work site, except with the permission of the supervisor. Paid lunch breaks are generally duty free except to meet occasional needs of children and parents, or for extenuating circumstances or emergencies.
13.9 Prior approval of the employee's supervisor is required before the employee works hours outside the regularly scheduled hours. The Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood Education must also give prior approval to work additional hours if the additional time results in an employee working over forty (40) hours within a calendar week.
