Apprentice Program.
16.1 All new employees are required to participate in the apprentice program subject to a one (1) year probation, to include those individuals that are hired from another journeyman department, and must complete all provisions of the program, (as adopted by the Joint Committee) as a condition of employment. If unusual or extraordinary circumstances occur, outside the control of the participant, the Joint Committee will evaluate and determine any exceptions to meeting the requirements.
16.2 Current firefighters, paramedics, and captains will become journeyman through a process developed by the Joint Committee in compliance with JATC (Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee) requirements and Washington State Law.
16.3 The recruit training academy and EMT will be paid by the employer to include: wages, benefits, and tuition. In addition, if the academy is outside the Vancouver service area the following will also be paid by the employer: mileage, commuting time wages for once a week travel to and from the academy, housing, and meals. The City will not pay overtime for any “Related Technical Instructions”.
16.4 The City will reimburse the required tuition cost, if a grade of “C” or higher attained, for all “Related Technical Instruction”. The apprentice will enroll in on-line training opportunities and perform this coursework during the apprentice work hours. The City will establish a separate reimbursement account separate from the current reimbursement systems. The Joint Committee will regulate the apprentice requirements to assure the apprentice can reasonably meet these requirements.
16.5 Wages for new apprentices will be paid according to the current collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired with JATC credentials shall be compensated at the wage step commensurate to their current level of certification within the JATC system.
16.6 For the purpose of attaining any apprentice training requirements, the productive work hours of apprentices will be extended to 10 pm at night for all assigned shifts. The City will ensure that discretionary time for the apprentice to work on apprentice training requirements will be made available.
16.7 Apprentices may be placed onto a daytime schedule for purposes of mandatory apprentice training requirements without any additional pay or premiums. The City will provide an annual schedule for each apprentice of the training requiring a schedule change prior to vacation selections each year.

Apprentice Program. APPRENTICESHIP STANDARDS - The following standards of apprenticeship covering the employment and training of apprentices in the trades included in these standards have been agreed to by the Company and the National Automobile, Aerospace and Transportation General Workers Union of Canada (CAW-CANADA) and its Local 1987.
Apprentice Program. 22.01 The parties agree to recognize and support the Construction Craft Workers Apprenticeship with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. They also agree to participate in Local Apprenticeship Committees (LAC) to develop and implement programs and plans of training for work covered by this Agreement. Such programs and plans of training shall be incorporated in their entirety into and form part of this Agreement.
Apprentice Program. 9.1 The joint Union-Management Apprentice Committee shall consist of 2 Union and 2 Management representatives. The Committee shall meet at least semi-annually to review the Apprentice Program.
9.2 The District shall post all new apprentice positions in-house for 2 weeks prior to advertising for the opening outside the District. In the event that 9 or more qualified bargaining unit members apply and complete the process, the selection shall be made from this group.
9.3 Any classifications for which an apprentice program is established shall have the position and salary added by reference to Appendix A.
Apprentice Program. The Employer and the Union agree to explore an apprenticeship program that is conducive to skill growth, cross training and professional advancement. The provisions of Article 33, Labor/Management Communication Committee, will be used to discuss and explore the apprenticeship program.

In order that an adequate supply of competent, skilled craftsmen shall be available at all times, it is agreed between the parties hereto that an apprentice program may be established by mutual consent of the Union and the Employer, the terms of such apprentice program to be mutually agreed upon. Any participation in such program must be agreed upon in advance, must be in writing, between the Employer and the Union.

Apprentice Program. 1. The parties agree that it is in their mutual interest, and in the interest of the road building industry, that new employees be trained in the operation of the equipment covered by this Agreement. When eight (8) or more engineers covered by this Agreement (exclusive of those under Class IV), are working for a Contractor on a job site, the Contractor shall employ one (1) Apprentice Engineer, if available, on such job site. When twenty (20) engineers are employed on the job site, two (2) Apprentice Engineers shall be employed, if available. When fifty (50) engineers are employed on the job site, three (3) Apprentice Engineers shall be employed, if available; and one (1) additional Apprentice Engineer shall be employed, if available, for each fifty (50) engineers until a maximum of five (5) Apprentice Engineers are employed. A job site is that area of work covered by a single contract, and when the Contractor is awarded work that is continuous or adjacent under more than one contract, the work performed under each contract shall be deemed a separate job site. The Apprentice Engineer shall be assigned to work with the various engineers and to do other work within the jurisdiction of the Union as directed by the Contractor. The starting rate for Apprentice Engineers shall be seventy percent (70%) of Class I Operators base rate, plus the payment of all fringe benefits. The following special conditions apply to employees who are admitted to the Apprenticeship program as may be set up and undertaken as mutually agreed by both Parties (R.U. and CUPE) under the Apprenticeship and Tradesmen's Qualification Act. These provisions take precedence over other clauses in the Collective Agreement.
