Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head Section 1. Employees covered by this Agreement may be granted, upon approval of the Police Chief or designee, time off with pay, if applicable, at the employee's base straight time rate, not to exceed forty (40) work hours, to attend the funeral and/or memorial service (hereinafter service) and/or attend to the affairs or handle related activities in the event of a death in the employee's immediate family. All days taken for bereavement leave must be taken within the thirty (30) consecutive calendar days surrounding the date of the service or date of death if no service is held. If the service is to be held outside the state of Florida, the employee may be granted time off with pay from the regularly scheduled work hours up to eighty (80) work hours to attend the service. Should the employee not attend the out-of-state service but need time to make service arrangements or handle related activities, up to forty (40) hours of paid time off may be granted. Such leave shall be granted by the Police Chief or designee except in such cases as determined that such leave is not possible because of operational requirements.
Section 2. For the purpose of this Article, the employee's immediate family shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time State employee due to be defined as the death of his/her parentemployee's father, stepparentmother, legal guardian(s), spouse, childson, stepchild, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. Section 3. Such bereavement leave Should an employee require additional time other than provided in Section 1 of this Article, the employee may request the additional time from the Police Chief or designee. Any additional time used shall be authorized charged to annual leave or holiday storage account if the employee has hours accrued that can be charged. Use of annual leave or holiday time for up to one duty shift this purpose shall not result in a fiscal year. Such The Superintendent may grant bereavement leave due to the death of an individual not in the unit member's immediate family, but such additional bereavement leave shall be authorized limited to the former guardians of the employee. Bereavement leave must be completed within three (3) months of the date of death. Unit members may submit a written request to the Superintendent for an extension of this time frame. Such requests must be made within the three (3) month time frame.
B. Effective January 1, 2024, qualifying employees are entitled to a leave of absence following a reproductive loss event (as defined by SB 848). Persons who would have been a parent if the reproductive event had been successful are entitled to up to five (5) days of leave following the day of the reproductive loss event, or the final day of a reproductive loss for a multiple-day event. The leave must be taken within three (3) months from the event. If an employee experiences more than one duty shift in reproductive loss event within a fiscal year12-month period, the employee is only entitled to a total of twenty (20) days of leave within the 12-month period. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shallmay take any available paid leave for a reproductive loss. If the employee does not have available paid leave, if requested by then the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation employee may take unpaid leave. Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A. Permanent or probationary employees, and non-permanent employees who have been employed for at least thirty (30) days, may take up to five (5) days of unpaid bereavement leave (three [3] days of which may qualify for pay pursuant to B. and C. below) for the death of a parent, stepparent, spouse/domestic partner, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, child, grandparent, grandchild, or parent-in-law.

17.02 In the event of the death of an employee’s grandfather, grandmother, son- in-law, or daughter-in-law, son-in- lawthe Company will grant one (1) scheduled working day off with compensation at his/her regular hourly rate of pay for hours lost from his/her regular schedule not to exceed eight (8) hours.
17.03 Upon the death of a relative as set forth in Article 17.01 or 17.02, sister-in-law, or brother-in-law. 17.06 Should bereavement leave occur during a period of an employee’s vacation their vacation period will be extended by the number of days of bereavement leave. (c) If during a period of sick leave, vacation leave or brother-in-law. An additional two (2) days of paid bereavement leave will be granted upon the loss of a full-time State employee due to the death of his/her parent, stepparent, spousespouse or civil union partner, child, stepchild, parent or stepparent or brother or sister if the employee is involved in making funeral arrangements, settling the estate or for other personal reasons.
c. An employee may request additional time off without pay. Such a request may be approved at the discretion of the Chief (or designee). An employee may also request the use of vacation, compensatory, or personal leave, or time off without pay for deaths outside of the immediate family. Such requests will be approved at the discretion of the Chief (or designee).
d. If bereavement leave is used during the employee’s probationary period, probation may be extended by the length of the leave.
e. If the death of any person residing in the immediate household of family occurs while the employee at is on vacation or other paid leave, the three (3) or five (5) days will be charged as bereavement leave, not as other paid time off.
f. It is understood that employees who suffer physiologically or psychologically as a result of death. An intervening bereavement may use accrued medical leave during a period of absence mourning. When three (3) or more days of medical leave are used for medical reasons bereavement, appropriate documentation will be required as described under this Article (see ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇, above).
g. Documentation shall not generally be disqualifying whenrequired for this leave, immediately except in cases where an employee has a prior to the absence, the person resided in the household disciplinary record for abuse of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request upon the employee's return to work.
10.6.2 A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in- law, sister-in-lawleave, or brother-in-law. Such in other cases where there are reasonable grounds to believe that an employee is abusing bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift in a fiscal year. 10.6.3 If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay.
10.6.4 Employees C. Permanent full-time employees who have used their three (3) paid days of bereavement leave may utilize their annual on each subsequent request be authorized to use up to three (3) eight (8) hour days of sick leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits if they suffer more than one (1) bereavement as enumerated in paragraph A. above during the fiscal year.
D. If additional bereavement leave is necessary, the employee may use accrued vacation, compensating time off, or take an authorized leave without pay, subject to the approval of the Appointing Authority.

Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head or designee (a) In the event of a death in the immediate family, every employee shall authorize bereavement be entitled to special leave with pay pay, subject to Article 18.05, for a fullperiod of up to five (5) consecutive work days for each death. (c) Notwithstanding Articles 23.02 (a) and (b) above, an employee’s paid leave entitlement for such circumstances may extend for up to one (1) year beyond the expiration of seven (7) calendar days commencing midnight following the death, where the employee has obtained approval from their Deputy Head or delegated official at the time of death. An intervening period the death to defer a portion or all of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior the leave to a later date due to the absenceburial and/or service relating to the death taking place beyond this timeframe.
(d) Every employee shall be entitled to special leave with pay, the person resided subject to Article 18.05, up to a maximum of one (1) work day in the household event of death of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request upon the employee's return to work.
10.6.2 A department head ’s brother-in-law or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a fullsister- in-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparent, brother, sisterlaw, aunt, uncle, niece▇▇▇▇▇, nephew, mother-in-law▇▇▇▇▇▇ parent, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in- law, or the grandparent of the spouse of the employee and may be granted up to two (2) days for travel and shall be paid for those travel days which are not regularly scheduled days of rest.
(e) In the event of a death of the employee’s sister-in-law, law or brother-in-law. Such bereavement law and subject to the paid leave provided pursuant to Article 23.02(d) above, upon request, an employee shall be authorized for granted up to one duty shift in an additional 4 days of unpaid leave. For clarity, the paid and unpaid leave days under Article 23.02(d) and (e) cannot exceed a fiscal year. The total of five (5) consecutive working days.
(f) Every employee shall give notice be entitled to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation an unpaid leave of absence of up to support the request.
10.6.3 If five (5) consecutive work days upon the death of a person as described the employee’s guardian.

Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.

Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head Section 1. Employees covered by this Agreement may be granted, upon approval of the Police Chief or designee, time off with pay, if applicable, at the employee's base straight time rate, not to exceed forty (40) work hours, to attend the funeral and/or memorial service (hereinafter service) and/or attend to the affairs or handle related activities in the event of a death in the employee's immediate family. All days taken for bereavement leave must be taken within thirty (30) consecutive calendar days surrounding the date of the service or date of death if no service is held. If the service is to be held outside the state of Florida, the employee may be granted time off with pay from the regularly scheduled work hours up to eighty (80) work hours to attend the service. Should the employee not attend the out-of-state service but need time to make service arrangements or handle related activities, up to forty (40) hours of paid time off may be granted. Such leave shall be granted by the Police Chief or designee except in such cases as determined that such leave is not possible because of operational requirements.
Section 2. For the purpose of this Article, the employee's immediate family shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time State employee due to be defined as the death of his/her parentemployee's father, stepparentmother, legal guardian(s), spouse, son, daughter, unborn child, stepchild, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. An intervening period of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior to the absence, the person resided in the household of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. Section 3. Such bereavement leave Should an employee require additional time other than provided in Section 1 of this Article, the employee may request the additional time from the Police Chief or designee. Any additional time used shall be authorized charged to annual leave or the holiday storage account if the employee has hours accrued that can be charged. Use of annual leave or holiday time for up to one duty shift this purpose shall not result in a fiscal year. B. A maximum of five working days (as soon as possible and shall, if requested defined by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request.
10.6.3 If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay regularly scheduled workday) paid bereavement leave shall be granted for two if there is a death in the immediate family (2as defined in Section 5.05.A) additional days which outside the State boundaries. Such bereavement leave shall not be deducted from accrued charged against the employee's sick leave, annual leavevacation or accrued compensatory time.
C. The employee shall be granted one working day (as defined by the employee's regularly scheduled workday) paid personal leave to attend the funeral of a close relative not in the employee's immediate family. D. City employees may be necessary, excused by department heads to attend the department head or designee may authorize the use funeral of other existing leave credits or authorized leave deceased City employees without loss of pay.

Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head or designee (a) Bereavement shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time State employee due to be defined as the death or serious illness within the scope of his/her parent, stepparent, spouse, child, stepchild, or death this Article.
(b) In the case of any person residing bereavement in the immediate household of the family, an employee at the time of death. Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head Section 1. Employees covered by this Agreement may be granted, upon approval of the Police Chief or designee, time off with pay, if applicable, at the employee's base straight time rate, not to exceed forty (40) work hours, to attend the funeral and/or memorial service (hereinafter service) and/or attend to the affairs or handle related activities in the event of a death in the employee's immediate family. All days taken for bereavement leave must be taken within the thirty (30) consecutive calendar days surrounding the date of the service or date of death if no service is held. If the service is to be held outside the state of Florida, the employee may be granted time off with pay from the regularly scheduled work hours up to eighty (80) work hours to attend the service. Should the employee not attend the out-of-state service but need time to make service arrangements or handle related activities, up to forty (40) hours of paid time off may be granted. Such leave shall be granted by the Police Chief or designee except in such cases as determined that such leave is not possible because of operational requirements.
Section 2. For the purpose of this Article, the employee's immediate family shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time State employee due to be defined as the death of his/her parentemployee's father, stepparentmother, legal guardian(s), spouse, son, daughter, unborn child, stepchild, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. An intervening period of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior to the absence, the person resided in the household of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. Section 3. Such bereavement leave Should an employee require additional time other than provided in Section 1 of this Article, the employee may request the additional time from the Police Chief or designee. Any additional time used shall be authorized charged to annual leave or holiday storage account if the employee has hours accrued that can be charged. Use of annual leave or holiday time for up to one duty shift this purpose shall not result in a fiscal year. 10.6.3 If 27.2. It is understood that under certain circumstances the employee may be unable to obtain a death certificate. In this event, in lieu of a death certificate, the employee shall submit a newspaper account showing the death and the relationship of a person as described above requires the deceased to the employee and/or other information and documentation as required by the Department of Human Resources.
27.3. In addition to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick bereavement leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a permanent full-time or probationary full-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in- in-law, sister-in-law, or brother-in-law. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift three (3) eight-hour days (24 hours) in a fiscal year. 10.6.3 C. If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 four hundred (400) miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay.
10.6.4 D. Employees may utilize their annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for additional time required in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 orA. or B. above. Sick leave may be utilized for Bereavement Leave in accordance with the Sick Leave provision of this agreement.
E. Fractional time base (part-time) employees will be eligible for bereavement leave on pro rata basis, based on the employees’ fractional time base.

(c) An Employee is entitled to one (1) working day’s leave with pay related to the death of her former spouse, annual leaveaunt, vacationuncle, niece, or CTO. Should additional nephew.
(d) If, during a period of leave with pay, an Employee is bereaved in circumstances under which she would have been eligible for bereavement leave with pay under paragraphs (a) to (c) above, the Employee shall be granted bereavement leave with pay and the end date of her leave with pay under the Agreement will be extended by the relevant number of day(s).
(e) On request, the employees’ manager or designate may grant a leave with or without pay for a period greater than that provided for in paragraphs (a) to (c) above.
(f) One (1) days leave with pay may be granted at the discretion of the manager or designate to an employee to attend a funeral as a pallbearer.
(g) Subject to client service and operational requirements, up to one-half day’s leave with pay may be granted to attend the funeral of a colleague employed by the LHIN.
(h) Where it is necessary, because of distance, the department head or designee employee may authorize the use apply for a personal leave of other existing absence without pay in addition to bereavement leave. (f) Casual employees scheduled to work shall be eligible for pay for bereavement leave.
(g) Bereavement leave during an employees scheduled vacation will extend the vacation by the number of qualified days under Article 17:06. At the option of the employee the extended vacation days will be taken at another time mutually agreed upon by the employee and the Employer.
(h) Where there is a death of the employee’s mother, father, spouse, common-law spouse; brother, sister, or child, paragraph (a) above shall be amended to read five (5) days.
(i) Where there is a death of the employee’s brother-in-law, sister-in-law, or brother-in-law. During such period the employee shall be paid for those days which are not regularly scheduled days of rest for the employee. In addition, the employee may be granted up to three (3) days' leave with pay for the purpose of travel related to the death.
35.2.3 An employee is entitled to one (1) day's bereavement leave with pay for the purpose related to the death of his son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sonbrother-in- law, in-law or sister-in-law.
35.2.4 If, during a period of sick leave, vacation leave or brother-in-law. Such compensatory leave, an employee is bereaved in circumstances under which the employee would have been eligible for bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift in a fiscal year. The Employer may require reasonable documentation to substantiate an employee’s request for bereavement leave, such as a death certificate, a published obituary, or brother-in-law. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift in written verification of death, burial, or memorial services from a fiscal year. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the requestmortuary or funeral home.
10.6.3 If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted I. 30.03 The company may extend the period of bereavement leave with pay provided for in section
30.04 An employee shall be granted, in the event of the death of his grandparent, brother in law or sister in law, sonbereavement leave with pay from one of his scheduled tours of duty that occur during the seven calendar days immediately following the day of the death.
30.05 The employee will be able to postpone the bereavement leave to up to six months to accommodate particular situations.
30.06 An employee who would normally be granted a bereavement leave as outlined in this article and who is on vacation at the time of the bereavement, shall have the vacation days, equivalent to the duration of the bereavement leave, rescheduled at a time mutually agreed to by both parties.
31.01 An employee who has completed thirteen (13) consecutive weeks of continuous employment with the Company shall be granted a maternity leave without pay of up to eighteen (18) weeks, which leave may begin no earlier than seventeen (17) weeks prior to the estimated date of delivery and end not later than seventeen (17) weeks from the date of commencement of the leave of absence.
31.02 An employee who has completed thirteen (13) consecutive weeks of continuous employment with the Company shall be granted a parental leave without pay as follows:
(a) where an employee has or will have the actual care and custody of a new-in- lawborn child, sisterthe employee shall be granted a leave of up to thirty seven (37) weeks unless the employee has also taken maternity leave in which case leave will be granted for thirty five (35) weeks in the fifty-intwo (52) week period beginning on the day on which the child is born or the day on which the child comes into the employee's care; and
(b) where an employee is adopting a child, the employee shall be granted a leave of up thirty seven (37) weeks in the fifty-lawtwo (52) week period beginning on the day on which the child comes into the employee's care.
31.03 For an employee eligible to a leave as provided under subsection 31.02 (b), a supplementary adoption leave without pay of up to eighteen (18) weeks is available and shall be granted upon request. This leave may begin not earlier than eleven (11) weeks prior to the estimated date on which the child is to come into the employee's care and end within the fifty-two (52) week period beginning on the day on which the child comes into the employee's care.
31.04 The employee shall complete and submit to the Company a written application, with documentation as required by the Company, for leave without pay under this Article at least four (4) weeks before the day specified in the application as the day on which the employee intends to commence such leave. Where circumstances preclude submission of the application four (4) weeks before commencement of the leave, the leave will not be unreasonably denied.
31.05 An employee who applies for a leave without pay under this Article but whose application is not in every respect in accordance with the conditions provided in sections 31.01, 31.02, 31.03 and 31.04, as applicable, may, at the discretion of, and under such circumstances as may be prescribed by the Company, be granted a leave of absence, but such leave will not carry a guarantee of re-engagement.
31.06 An employee who wishes to resume employment on expiration of a leave granted pursuant to section 31.01, 31.02 or 31.03 shall be reinstated in the position occupied by the employee at the time such leave commenced. In the event such position no longer exists the employee will be placed in a comparable position, with not less than the same wages and benefits. However, to be entitled to re- engagement, an employee must present himself (herself) for re-engagement in the Company on the first working day following the expiry of the leave, or brother-in-law. Such bereavement (where applicable) the first working day following the expiry of the leave plus the number of the days between the estimated date of confinement and the actual date of confinement if the latter is later, and provide medical certification of that date.
31.07 Provided an employee reports for work and resumes employment as provided under section 31.06, the employee will be credited with seniority for the period of the leave(s).
31.08 A regular employee who has been granted a maternity leave under section 31.01 or a parental leave for adoption under subsection 31.02 (b) and provides the Company with proof of application and eligibility to receive employment insurance benefits, shall be authorized paid a Supplemental Allowance in accordance with the provisions of sections 31.09, 31.10, 31.11 and 31.12.
31.09 To be eligible, the employee shall sign an agreement with the Company providing
(a) to return to work and remain in the Company's employ for a period of at least six (6) months after such return to work,
(b) to return to work on the date of the expiry of maternity leave provided under section 31.01 or parental leave provided under section 31.02, and
(c) that the employee recognizes indebtedness to the Company for the amount received as a Supplemental Allowance should the conditions provided in subsections 31.09 (a) and (b) not be satisfied.
31.10 In respect of the period of maternity leave granted under section 31.01, payments made according to the Supplemental Allowance Plan will consist of the following:
(a) for the first two weeks, nil payment;
(b) for up to one duty shift the next fifteen (15) weeks, payments as provided in a fiscal year. The employee shall give notice Attachment C.
31.11 In respect of the period of parental leave for adoption granted under subsection 31.02 (b), payments as provided in Attachment F according to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation Supplemental Allowance Plan will be made for up to support the requestten (10) weeks.
10.6.3 If 31.12 In the death of a person as described above requires event that legislation is enacted that provides additional employment insurance (other than increases in the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2maximum standard benefits) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay.
10.6.4 Employees may utilize their annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for payment of salary during the period an employee is receiving the Supplemental Allowance provided in sections 31.10 or 31.11, the amount that the employee is entitled to receive as provided in Attachment F shall be decreased by the amount the employee is entitled to receive as a result of such additional time required in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 oremployment insurance or other payment.

(b) Compassionate leave of one (1) day with pay may be approved by the Executive Director or her designate in the event of a death of someone with whom the staff has had a significant relationship. Such approval shall not be unreasonably denied.
(c) An Employee who is on vacation at the time of a bereavement for which they are entitled to bereavement leave shall be authorized not have their vacation hours reduced for up to one duty shift in a fiscal yearsuch absence. The employee period of vacation so displaced shall give notice be either added to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible the vacation period or reinstated at a later date by mutual agreement between the Employee and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the requestEmployer.

After six (6) months of employment, part-in- lawtime employees shall be granted the following bereavement benefits: in the event of death in the immediate family as that term is defined above, sisterup to one regular work week of leave with pay; and, in the event of death any of the relatives listed in paragraph 2 above, up to three (3) working days leave. The parties recognize that employees, whether full or part-in-lawtime do not necessarily work a traditional Monday through Friday work week. The parties further acknowledge that bereavement benefits are intended to provide eligible employees with paid leave to attend to the funeral, memorial or brother-in-lawother services associated with the death of an immediate family member or relative as defined above. Such To that end, it is agreed that members shall not be entitled to bereavement leave calculated in such a manner as to extend the bereavement leave period beyond one calendar week of the date of death. Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A. A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a permanent or probationary full-time State employee due to the death of his/her parent, stepparent, spouse, domestic partner (as defined in accordance with Family Code section 297), child, grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, stepchild, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A. The amount of bereavement leave related to the death of an immediate family of an employee’s spouse shall be the same for the immediate family of a registered domestic partner.
B. Permanent or probationary employees, and non- permanent employees who have been employed for at least 30 days, may take up to five (5) days of unpaid bereavement leave for the death of a spouse/domestic partner, child, parent, stepparent, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, or parent-in-law. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to five (5) days per occurrence. Such bereavement leave shall qualify with pay for specific occurrences pursuant to subsections C below. The employee may elect to use their accrued annual leave, vacation, sick, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for any unpaid days of leave which do not qualify with pay pursuant to subsections C below.
C. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay. Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.
10.6.4 E. The bereavement leave days outlined in Sections B, C, and D do not need to be taken consecutively, but must be requested within three (3) months of the date of death. The employee shall give notice to the employee’s immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee’s supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request. Substantiation includes, but is not limited to, a death certificate, published obituary, written verification of death, burial, or memorial from a mortuary, funeral home, burial society, crematorium, religious institution, or governmental agency.
F. Employees may utilize their the employee’s annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for additional time required in excess of time allowed above. Sick leave may be utilized for Bereavement Leave in 10.6.1 oraccordance with the sick leave provision of this Contract in section 8.2. Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.
G. Fractional time base (part-time) employees will be eligible for bereavement leave on a pro rata basis, based on the employees’ fractional time base (See schedule in Article 7.1 (L)).

If the death of a person as described enumerated above requires the employee to travel over 400 four hundred (400) miles one way from his/her home, additional time off upon request, a leave with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay.
10.6.4 Employees C. Permanent full-time employees who have used their three (3) paid days of bereavement leave may utilize their annual on each subsequent request be authorized to use up to three (3) eight (8) hour days of sick leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits if they suffer more than one (1) bereavement as enumerated in paragraph A. above during the fiscal year.
D. If additional bereavement leave is necessary, the employee may use accrued vacation, compensating time off, or take an authorized leave without pay, subject to the approval of the Appointing Authority.
E. Fractional time base (part-time) employees will be eligible for additional bereavement leave pursuant to paragraphs A., B., and C. above on a pro rata basis, based on the employee's fractional time required base. (See DPA Management Memo 83-7-1 for fractional time base employees.)
F. An employee may use accrued vacation credits, holiday credits, or CTO in excess the case of time allowed in 10.6.1 orthe death of his/her aunt, uncle, ▇▇▇▇▇▇ sibling, ▇▇▇▇▇▇'s grandparent or any near relative who raised the employee.
G. Intermittent employees may only be granted bereavement leave if pre-scheduled to work on the day(s) for which the leave is requested and only for the number of hours the employee is scheduled to work on that day(s).

10.6.3 If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days of leave on consecutive work days to attend a memorial service and/or attend to family business directly related to the death. Partial day use of bereavement leave may be used if the event for which shall leave is being used occurs while at work. In this case those hours will be deducted from accrued the final day of bereavement leave use. All leave shall commence no later than seven (7) calendars days from the event for which it’s being used. Immediate family shall be defined as the following family relationships to either the employee or the employee's spouse (by blood or by marriage): (1) mother, father, (2) spouse, (3) children, (4) siblings, (5) grandparents, (6) grandchildren, (7) aunts and uncles, (8) nieces and nephews, and (9) any relative or significant other residing in the employees' household. Bereavement leave shall not be cumulative. Bereavement leave shall not be deducted from sick leave. In the event of a death of a long-time former family member above, annual leaveone (1) day with pay may be granted upon approval of the Executive Director of Personnel. In the event additional time-off beyond the allotted five (5) days is needed, vacation, or CTOsuch additional time-off may be granted without pay upon approval of the Employer. Should additional Extenuating circumstances may be appealed to the Executive Director of Personnel for review. The decision of the Executive Director of Personnel is not subject to the Grievance Procedure. The Employer and the Union agree that abuse of bereavement leave shall be necessary, addressed through the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without paydisciplinary process.

(b) Where travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for of two (2) hours or greater is required, or in exceptional circumstances, additional unpaid compassionate leave of up to two (2) days which may be granted at the discretion of the CCAC Director of Human Resources or her designate.
(c) An Employee will be entitled to defer taking a bereavement leave day or days to a later date for the purpose of attending a second funeral or memorial service. This provision shall not entitle an Employee to additional bereavement days that they would otherwise have received pursuant to this Article.
(d) One (1) Employee designated by the Union shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, granted one (1) day off with pay for the purposes of attending the funeral of a Union member or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, retired Union member employed or formerly employed by the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without payEmployer.

Should additional leave be necessaryIf evidence exists that this provision is abused, the department head or designee may authorize Superintendent reserves the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without payright to declare the day as unpaid leave.

5. 7. Request for additional days due to extenuating circumstances may be granted by the Superintendent or designee.

Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 Bargaining Unit 10 employees have the option of paid or unpaid bereavement leave as detailed below.
A. Unpaid Bereavement Leave Permanent or probationary employees, and non-permanent employees who have been employed for at least 30 days, may take up to five (5) workdays of unpaid bereavement leave per occurrence for the death of a spouse/domestic partner, child, parent, stepparent, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, parent-in-law, or any person residing in the immediate household. (a) An employee shall not suffer a loss of pay for any work time lost during the day before and the day of a funeral of an employee’s grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, provided the employee actually attends the funeral.
(b) An employee shall not suffer a loss of pay for any work time lost during the day before and the day of a funeral of the employee’s spouse’s grandmother, grandfather, aunt or uncle, provided the employee actually attends the funeral.
29.03 Employees in the section affected, who so request, shall be given time off to attend the funeral of an active fellow employee without loss of pay.
29.04 Pursuant to Articles 29.01 and 29.07, in the event the funeral is not held during the normal bereavement period but deferred to a later date, the employee shall be granted bereavement leave shall be authorized for of up to one duty shift two (2) days to attend the funeral without loss of pay, providing the total number of bereavement days does not exceed the number of days provided in a fiscal year. Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head or designee Section 1. In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee who is otherwise assigned to duty, the employee shall authorize bereavement leave be granted time off with pay for a full-time State employee due to as follows:
A. Employees working Fire Suppression, Communications and EMS employees working forty- two (42) hour work week shall be granted two (2) shifts off following the death. Unless exclusive permission is received from the Fire Chief, the working days as outlined by this Section shall be taken within fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of the death of his/her parentthe family member. B. Other employees shall be granted four (4) working days off following the death. C. In conformity with the current practice, employees who experience a family emergency shall be placed on FMLA upon compliance with the statutory requirements, until such time the employee indicates that the family member dies. The immediate family shall be defined as the employee's mother, father, legal spouse, child, stepchild, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. An intervening period of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior to the absence, the person resided in the household of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request upon the employee's return to work.
10.6.2 A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, aunthalf-siblings, unclegrandmother, niece, nephewgrandfather, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, daughterspouse’s grandparents, grandchildren, step-inparent, step-lawchildren or other members of the immediate household.
Section 2. Employees in the Firefighting Division may use one (1) shift of Bereavement Leave without loss of FLSA overtime. However, son-in- law, sister-in-law, or brother-in-law. Such employees who use their second bereavement leave shift shall lose FLSA overtime for both bereavement leave shifts. In the event a Fire Fighter uses bereavement leave on more than three (3) occasions in any one year, FLSA overtime shall be authorized lost for such leave and each occasion thereafter.
Section 3. In the event an employee is on military leave during the occurrence of a death in the immediate family and, as a result, is required by the military to make up the time taken off from military leave, he shall be entitled to one duty shift bereavement leave as provided in a fiscal yearthis Article.
Section 4. The Chief shall have discretion in cases that are found to be fraudulent requests or use of bereavement leave to deny any employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shallsuch bereavement leave provided, if requested by the employee's supervisorhowever, provide substantiation to support the request.

An intervening period of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior to the absence, the person resided in the household of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request upon the employee's return to work.
10.6.2 A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparentparent, brother, sister, aunt▇▇▇▇▇▇-parent, uncle▇▇▇▇▇▇- child, niece▇▇▇▇▇▇-sibling, nephewstep-parent, step-child, step-sibling, grandparent, grandchild, step-grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sonsister-in- law, sisterbrother-in-law, employee’s aunt, employee’s uncle, niece, nephew and other relatives or brother-in-lawindividuals living in the employee’s home. Such leaves shall not be cumulative from year to year.
C. The time during which bereavement leave will be taken shall be at the discretion of the employee.
D. The employee shall provide the name of the deceased, his/her relationship to the employee and the date of death to the immediate supervisor at the time of the request.
E. Approval for such leave shall not be withheld pending any verification. All bereavement leave shall be authorized granted with the understanding that it may be subject to further verification once the employee returns to work.
F. The Director retains the right to request additional information from the employee if misuse of bereavement leave is reasonably suspected.
G. All requests for up bereavement leave shall be submitted to one duty shift in a fiscal year. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's immediate supervisor, provide substantiation who has the authority to support grant or deny the request.
10.6.3 If , consistent with the death terms of this Article. Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head or designee shall authorize Employees requesting bereavement leave with pay to attend a funeral for designated family members will be granted a maximum of four days of leave (four consecutive calendar days for bargaining employee, four consecutive workdays for professional employee). (c) An Employee will be entitled to defer taking a bereavement leave day or days to a later date for the purpose of attending a second funeral or memorial service. This provision shall not entitle an Employee to additional bereavement days that they would otherwise have received pursuant to this Article.
(d) One (1) Employee designated by the Union shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, granted one (1) day off with pay for the purposes of attending the funeral of a Union member or CTO. 10.6.3 C. If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 four hundred (400) miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay. Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.
10.6.4 D. Employees may utilize their annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for additional time required in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 orA or B above. Sick leave may be utilized for Bereavement Leave in accordance with the sick leave provision of this Contract in section 8.2. Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.
E. Fractional time base (part-time) employees will be eligible for bereavement leave on a pro rata basis, based on the employees’ fractional time base (See schedule in article 7).

For the purpose of this Article, or brother-in-law. Such law and sister-in-law means the spouse of a brother or sister of the employee, or sister/brother of the employee’s spouse.
(c) An Employee shall be granted paid bereavement leave for up to three (3) consecutive working days, beginning on the day following the death, in the event of death of a, grandparent of the Employee’s spouse, and any relative permanently residing in the Employee’s household or with whom the Employee permanently resides.
(d) An Employee shall be granted paid bereavement leave from work for one
(1) working day to attend a funeral or memorial service of an Employee's aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, step-grandparent, step-grandchild, or cousin if the funeral or memorial service is held during the Employee’s regular working day.
(e) When a death of a former or fellow Employee or a close friend occurs and appropriate notice is given, an Employee shall be granted time off from work with pay to attend the funeral.
(f) In addition to the leaves provided for in (b) and (c) above, up to an additional two (2) calendar days of paid bereavement leave may be granted if the funeral is outside Nova Scotia and the Employee attends.
(g) In the event of a death for which bereavement leave is provided under this Article and, if the Employee has scheduled vacation days during the bereavement period, bereavement leave shall be authorized substituted for up to one duty shift in a fiscal year. Should additional leave be necessary, the .

10.6.4 Employees D. Fractional time base (part-time) employees will be eligible for bereavement leave pursuant to paragraphs A., B., and C. above on a pro rata basis, based on the employee’s fractional time base. (See DPA Management Memo 83-7-1 for fractional time base employees).
E. An employee may utilize their annual leaveuse accrued vacation credits, vacation, CTOholiday credits, or CTO in the case of the death of their his/her ▇▇▇▇▇▇ sibling, spouse’s grandparent or any other earned near relative who raised the employee.

Intermittent employees who are not prescheduled may only be granted bereavement leave for days when their name comes up on a rotation list and only for those hours the employee would work on that day(s).

Bereavement Leave. 10.6.1 A department head or designee (i) Upon request, an Employee shall authorize bereavement be granted reasonable leave with pay for of absence in the event of a full-time State employee due to the death of his/her parent, stepparent, a family member of the Employee’s immediate family ( i.e. spouse, child, stepchild, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. An intervening period of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior to the absence, the person resided in the household of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift per occurrence. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request upon the employee's return to work.
10.6.2 A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a full-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparentparent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sonbrother-in- in-law, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, uncle, aunt, grandparent, grandchild, guardian or brotherfiancée). Spouse shall include common-inlaw and/or same sex relationship. Step-law. Such bereavement leave parent, step-children, step-brother and step-sister shall be authorized for considered as members of the Employee’s immediate family. For the first five (5) fourteen (14) calendar days of such leave of absence, the Employee shall suffer no loss of regular earnings. Bereavement leave may include normal days off and/ or vacation but no additional payment is due therefore.
(ii) Upon request, an Employee shall be granted fourteen (14) days leave of absence in the event of the loss of pregnancy. A pregnancy loss is any situation where a pregnancy ends other than in a live birth. Bereaved Employees include the person who was pregnant, the spouse or common law partner of the person who was pregnant, and any other person who would have been a parent as the result of a pregnancy, including adoptive and surrogate parents.
(b) In the event of a death of another relative or close friend, the Employer may shall grant up to one duty shift in a fiscal year. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request.
10.6.3 If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time (1) working day off with pay to attend the funeral services.
(c) An Employee shall not be required to take previously unscheduled vacation leave in lieu of bereavement leave when they are entitled to that bereavement leave
(d) Bereavement Leave shall be granted for extended by two (2) additional calendar days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay.
10.6.4 Employees may utilize their annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for additional time required if travel in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 orthree hundred and twenty (320) kilometers one way from the Employee’s residence is necessary for the purposes of attending the funeral.

Where a member of immediate family dies, a Schedule Employee shall be entitled to a maximum of three (3) days’ leave with pay, but such leave shall not extend beyond the third day followingthe death. Where burial takes place at a distance greater than three hundred and (350) kilometres from Ottawa, an additional two (2) days will be provided for travel. For the purpose of this section, days means consecutive calendar days. A Schedule Employee shall be entitled to special leave with pay up to a maximum of one day, to attend the funeral of grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sonbrother-in- in-law, sister-in-law, aunt uncle or brother-in-lawformer guardian. Such bereavement Schedule I Employees are entitled to such leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift in a fiscal yearwithout pay. 10.6.3 If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay A male Schedule Employee shall be granted leave with pay up to a maximum of one (1) day for two (2) additional days which the birth of his child. Such leave may be granted on the day before, day of, or day the birth of his child, or on the day of his wife’s admission to, or discharge from the hospital. A Schedule Employee shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTOgranted leave with pay up to a maximum of one (1) day on the occasion of adoption of a child. 10.6.4 . A Schedule Employee shall be allowed to use sick leave with pay to engage in personal preventative medical or dental care as per Article Employees shall be required to schedule such appointments so as to minimize the duration of absence. Employees may utilize be required to show proof of medical or dental care. An Employee’s use of such leave must be reported to their annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for additional time required in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 orimmediate supervisor.

Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift in a fiscal year. The stepfather and/or stepmother if they have raised the employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible from infancy regardless of place of residence, and shall, if requested by may include any other person who was an actual member of the employee's supervisorhousehold for five (5) or more years immediately prior to their death. Within thirty (30) calendar days from the date the employee returns from bereavement leave, provide substantiation the employee shall, upon request, file a copy of the death certificate of the deceased family member. Said death certificate must be attached to support a form approved by the requestOffice of Labor Relations and submitted to the Human Resources Department. Failure to produce the death certificate will result in the employee reimbursing the City for any days taken under this Article. Any employee found to have falsified his application for bereavement leave will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
10.6.3 If 25.2. It is understood that under certain circumstances the employee may be unable to obtain a death certificate. In this event, in lieu of a death certificate, the employee shall submit a newspaper account showing the death and the relationship of a person as described above requires the deceased to the employee and/or other information and documentation as required by the Department of Human Resources.
25.3. In addition to travel over 400 miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick bereavement leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessaryat the request of the employee, the department head or designee Department Director may authorize the use of other existing accrued vacation.
25.4. Employees on twenty-four (24) hour tour of duty shall be bound by the above sections except that they may be authorized up to forty-eight (48) consecutive work hours of duty on leave credits or authorized leave without with pay.
10.6.4 Employees may utilize their annual leave25.5. Bereavement leave is for attending a funeral or to attend to estate issues or for being in a state of bereavement and must be taken within 45 days of the death of the family member. The Fire Chief at his sole discretion, vacationcan make exceptions to the 45 day limit under truly unique circumstance, CTO, but his decision is final and cannot be appealed through the grievance procedure or any other earned leave credits for additional time required in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 orforum.

A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a permanent or probationary full-time State employee due to the death of his/her parent, stepparent, spouse, domestic partner (as defined in accordance with Family Code section 297), child, grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, stepchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, or death of any person residing in the immediate household of the employee at the time of death. An intervening period of absence for medical reasons shall not be disqualifying when, immediately prior to the absence, the person resided in the household of the employee. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift three (3) eight-hour days (24 hours) per occurrence. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's ’s supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request upon the employee's ’s return to work.
10.6.2 B. A department head or designee shall authorize bereavement leave with pay for a permanent full-time or probationary full-time employee due to the death of grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, his/her aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in- law, sister-in-law, or brother-in-lawimmediate family members of domestic partners as defined in paragraph A above. Such bereavement leave shall be authorized for up to one duty shift three (3) eight-hour days (24 hours) in a fiscal year. The employee shall give notice to his/her immediate supervisor as soon as possible and shall, if requested by the employee's ’s supervisor, provide substantiation to support the request.
10.6.3 C. If the death of a person as described above requires the employee to travel over 400 four hundred (400) miles one way from his/her home, additional time off with pay shall be granted for two (2) additional days which shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, annual leave, vacation, or CTO. Should additional leave be necessary, the department head or designee may authorize the use of other existing leave credits or authorized leave without pay. Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.
10.6.4 D. Employees may utilize their annual leave, vacation, CTO, or any other earned leave credits for additional time required in excess of time allowed in 10.6.1 orA or B above. Sick leave may be utilized for Bereavement Leave in accordance with the sick leave provision of this Contract in section 8.2. Any such request shall not be arbitrarily or unreasonably denied.
E. Fractional time base (part-time) employees will be eligible for bereavement leave on a pro rata basis, based on the employees’ fractional time base (See schedule in Article 7.1(L)).
