Captain. The captain of a Dutch ship.
Captain. When an employee who is classified as a Firefighter is temporarily detailed to perform all duties of a Captain for one (1) hour or more, such employee shall be paid the base rate, and any premiums, if applicable, of the Captain classification for the hours worked at the hourly rate.
Captain. (a) The written exam shall consist of up to of 200 multiple choice and fill in the blank questions.
(b) Oral and written exam questions shall be based solely on the following materials: the NFPA Fire Officer I, the Occupational Health and Safety Guide including Section 21 Guidance Notes, the Oakville Fire Department’s Company Officer Resource Manual and be referenced in the same.
(c) The oral examination shall be done before an assessment board consisting of the Fire Chief or designate and two Deputy Chiefs.
(d) A series of photos that depict emergency incidents shall be shown in presentation format to each candidate and prescribed and relevant questions will be asked about each photo. The candidate will be scored as to whether they mentioned all or any of the answers that the selection committee has predetermined to be acceptable. The marking scheme for the photo scenarios will ensure that no subjectivity exists, meaning that if a predetermined benchmark is attained a mark shall be given for attaining it.
(i) Applicants must have a minimum five (5) years’ experience as a First Class Fire Fighter with the Oakville Fire Department unless there is mutual agreement between the parties to this agreement to lower the requirement.
(ii) Those Fire Fighters hired after October 1, 2018 must have a minimum of four and a half (4.5) years of experience as a First Class Fire Fighter with the Oakville Fire Department unless there is mutual agreement between the parties to this agreement to lower the requirement.
(f) Upon attaining the overall mark of 70% (or greater), the employee(s) shall be placed on the Officer Rank Promotional List in the order of the marks until a promotion is available, or for two (2) years. Once an employee has acted in a position, he/she shall not be required to re-qualify and he/she shall be placed on the Officer Rank Promotional List permanently. Any employee who has attained the acting position and acted in that position shall be promoted as his/her name comes up in the order as posted on the Officer Rank Promotional List.
(g) The successful candidate shall be required to complete the NFPA Fire Officer I Program and participate in prescriptive on-shift training as provided by the Fire Department to ensure current standards are maintained.
Captain. The Pilot who is in command of the aircraft and its crew members while on duty, and who is properly qualified and designated by the Company to serve as, and holds currently effective Transport Canada Certificates authorizing him to serve as such Captain.

Captain. A Captain, upon appointment, will receive 5% additional compensation based on his respective firefighter pay step in the contract while on probation. A Captain will receive a total of 10% additional compensation based on his respective firefighter pay step in the contract upon successful completion of probation.
Captain. Full rate for Fire Lieutenant with comparable years of service plus fifteen percent (15%) (Differential includes step program).
Captain must be a Lieutenant in the Division at Port Everglades for a minimum of one (1) year. Vacancies in the job title of Administrative Captain shall be filled by appointment by the Division Director. The following requirements shall be in effect with regard to promotional procedures:
1. time in grade eligibility requirement for promotional examinations shall be measured in terms of continuous service. An interruption for an authorized leave of absence without pay shall not constitute a break in service; however, the time of a leave of absence without pay shall not be credited as time in service, and
2. time in grade eligibility criteria for promotional examinations shall be by the closing date as published on the official Division of Human Resources job announcement. Promotions to any rank/classification covered by this Agreement shall be determined by any combination of the following: experience/education, written examination, oral board, and, where feasible, by a performance/ practical examination. As part of determining the resulting rank certification determination, an oral examining board will be convened which board will consist of three (3) members selected by the Director of Human Resources. It is the intent of the County to establish the oral examining board consisting of three (3) members of equal or higher rank to the position being interviewed for, from employers other than the County. A cut-off score on each examination phase will be necessary to attain an overall minimum qualifying score. Promotional examination announcements shall be posted conspicuously at Port Everglades for fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the official closing date. Source of information for all promotional examinations shall be determined through the County. The Division of Human Resources will coordinate with the Division to schedule test or interview times to minimize potential hardships on employees due to shift scheduling. In the event the employee believes he/she has been discriminated against in the examination process, the Office of Equal Opportunity shall be available to investigate those concerns.
