Day in port Clause Samples

The "Day in port" clause defines how a day is counted when a vessel is docked at a port. Typically, this clause specifies the exact time frame that constitutes a day—such as a 24-hour period starting from the vessel's arrival or a set calendar day—regardless of the actual hours spent in port. For example, even if a ship arrives late in the evening, the entire day may be counted as a full day in port. This clause is essential for calculating port charges, laytime, or demurrage, ensuring both parties have a clear and consistent method for determining time-related costs and obligations while the vessel is docked.
