The 'Education Points' clause establishes a system for awarding points to individuals or entities based on their participation in educational activities or completion of specific training modules. Typically, this clause outlines how points are earned, tracked, and potentially redeemed, such as through attending workshops, completing courses, or engaging in professional development programs. Its core function is to incentivize ongoing education and skill development, ensuring that participants remain engaged and motivated to enhance their knowledge and competencies.
Education Points. One semester unit shall equal one education point, and one quarter unit shall equal two-thirds of a point. Such units of credit shall have been awarded by a community college, college or university accredited by a national or regional accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Education Points. (1) The following education points shall be added to each candidate’s score, in accordance with the accreditation standard referenced in Article 7, Section 9 for education incentive pay. No cumulative points shall be allowed for more than one degree or Certification.
(i) Add .5 point for 60 college hours
(ii) Add 1.0 point for Bachelor Degree (iii)Add 2.0 points for Master’s Degree
(2) It is the responsibility of the Officer seeking education or certification points to ensure that the Training Academy has the necessary supporting documentation for education or certification points. The documentation must be received by the Training Academy no later than 5:00 p.m. on the seventh (7th) business day before the written examination is administered. No education or certification points will be counted unless proper documentation is timely received by the Training Academy.

These points shall be added to the final score in accordance with the point formula below, and shall only apply to college degrees from an accredited college or university, meeting the accreditation standard referenced in Article 7 Section 9 for education incentive pay. Employees shall be eligible to receive up to 10 education points in accordance with the following schedule: Associate Degree in Fire Science or Fire Service Administration - 10 Points Bachelors degree in any field and completion of State of Illinois OSFM Fire Officer I curriculum -10 Points Associate Degree in any field and completion of the State of Illinois OSFM Fire Officer I curriculum - 5 Points Candidates who wish to receive education points shall make application and submit required documentation to the Fire Chief at least 45 days prior to the written exam. Acceptable documentation for an associate or bachelor’s degree shall be an original diploma or an official transcript from the issuing institution. Acceptable documentation for other courses shall be an official transcript(s) from educational institutions or original certificates of completion or grade reports from the issuing agency.

In the event a course is discontinued, employees shall con- tinue to be eligible for education points for those discon- tinued courses they have completed. Education Points. (1) Educational points shall be added to each applicant’s overall score based on the attainment, at the time of the examination, of the following degree points: Master’s Degree or higher (5 points); Bachelor of Art or Science (3 Points); Associates Degree (1.5 points).
(2) Members shall be required to submit a certified transcript from an accredited school or university for verification to receive the educational points. Points will only be awarded for the highest degree level attained and not be cumulative of any lessor degree.

Education Points a) 0.02 points shall be added to an employee's Sergeants passing examination score for each completed credit of post secondary education from an accredited institution of higher learning.
