ENGINE IDLING. Drivers of ALL VEHICLES agree to turn engines off at every reasonable opportunity when loading and unloading passengers and/or when staging in the various loading zones, staging areas and tour venues throughout the CBJ. This includes all passenger and crew shuttle operations and “quick drop-offs” accomplished at Marine Park and the Columbia (Tram) Lot. Vehicles should not sit with engines idling while actively loading, unloading, or waiting for passengers to arrive. Engines should be started only when the vehicle is ready to move, and thereafter, only when the vehicle is in motion or in traffic. Note that the State Museum, Juneau Ranger District, and all downtown docks require companies to turn off engines at these facilities as part of a company’s permit to operate.

Vehicles should not sit with engines idling while actively loading, unloading, or waiting for passengers to arrive. Engines should be started only when the vehicle is ready to move, and thereafter, only when the vehicle is in motion or in traffic.
ENGINE IDLING. Your company and your company’s Personnel with company with (1) all state and local idling laws and regulations and (2) Amazon’s zero non-operational idling policy which prohibits running a Vehicle’s engine when the Vehicle is not in motion for over three (3) minutes. Vehicles in indoor spaces such as garages and delivery stations must always have engines off when not in motion for more than ten (10) seconds. If a driver is not in the cab, then the Vehicle must always be placed in park with parking break engaged, engine turned off, and keys removed from the ignition. Examples of prohibited non-operational idling include idling to “warm up” the Vehicle before start of shift, leaving a Vehicle idling at a delivery stop, idling for use as offsite office, and idling for use as a break area. The only exceptions to Amazon’s three minute policy are as follows, subject to any state and local laws that prohibit the below. Note there are no exceptions for idling unattended Vehicles.
a. Vehicle is forced to remain motionless because of traffic, official traffic control signal, or adverse weather conditions affecting the safe operation of the Vehicle.
b. Vehicle is being operated for emergency or law enforcement purposes.
c. Idling at the direction of a law enforcement officer.
d. Idling is necessary to operate heaters, air conditioners, or other equipment to ensure the safety or health of the driver where external temperatures are over eighty (80) degrees F or below forty (40) degrees F and no suitable temperature controlled environment alternative exists.
e. Idling to operate defrosters to improve Vehicle visibility.
f. Idling is necessary for testing, servicing, repairing or diagnostic purposes.
ENGINE IDLING. You owe a minimum of a $250 fee for EACH TIME that the engine is idled for more than 15 minutes at a time. Excessive idling the engine MAY necessitate the replacement of the catalytic converter. You will be solely responsible for this cost.
ENGINE IDLING. ATN vehicles shall not idle for more than five minutes maximum to comply with State regulations. Unnecessary idling causes excess fuel consumption, shortened engine life and contributes to air pollution. Engines may be operated to supply heat or air conditioning necessary for passenger comfort and safety, in which case idling up to a maximum of 30 minutes is allowed. CONTRACTOR is responsible for all fines for violating State or County engine idling regulations.
