Leaves Without Pay. A. Military leave shall be granted in accordance with statutory requirements and University policy.
B. Appearance as an individual rather than as an officer or an employee of the University, whether voluntary or in response to a legal order, to appear and testify in private litigation. If an employee has vacation or compensatory time off available to use, the employee may choose to use that leave for this purpose.
C. In accordance with the Family Medical Leave Act, an employee shall be granted up to twelve (12) weeks unpaid leave to care for a family member. During this period of time, the Employer shall continue to make the Employer's contribution to the employee's health insurance as though the employee were on payroll. An employee may also be eligible to use sick leave under the provisions of Article 17.
D. An employee shall be granted up to sixteen (16) hours unpaid time per year for business connected to children's schooling (i.e., conferences). If an employee has vacation or compensatory time off available to use, the employee may choose to use that leave for this purpose.
E. Other personal leaves may be granted at any time to any employee for any period of time for personal purposes with department head approval. This leave may include personal unpaid educational leave to attend a University educational program leading toward a University degree. Should more than one (1) employee in a work location request personal leave at the same time and staffing not allow approval of more than one (1) employee on leave, the employee with the most University Seniority shall get the leave. However, personal or educational leave may be denied if other previously approved leaves do not allow staffing flexibility to grant additional leaves.
Leaves Without Pay. 23.2.1 An employee may request a leave of absence without pay and without accumulation of credits. The Employer shall not unreasonably withhold consent with respect to any such request or request for an extension of such leave, however it is agreed that operating requirements is a factor which will be considered under this provision. The Employer will normally respond to an employee’s written request within 10 days absent unforeseen circumstances. More time may be required in some instances, in which case the employee will be kept apprised of the status of the request including the anticipated timetable within which the request will be dealt with.
23.2.2 Subject to 23.2.1, an employee shall be entitled to a full time leave of absence without pay and without accumulation of credits of up to one (1) year for the purposes of caring for a dependant person.
Leaves Without Pay. The Employer has the right to verify that any leaves taken by unit members be in compliance with the applicable terms and conditions stated in the Agreement.
Leaves Without Pay. Employees may be granted the following types of unpaid leaves of absence:
Leaves Without Pay. A. A faculty member may be granted leave without pay, subject to the operational requirements of the member’s department or school.
B. In order to receive service credit in the Ryerson Pension Plan, a faculty member on leave without pay who is a member of this Plan is required to contribute to the Plan an amount equal to the contributions due on the basis of notional RFA salary. These contributions are to be paid in two equal installments - the first at the beginning of the leave and the second at the end of the leave.
C. A faculty member on leave without pay is eligible to continue his/her Group Life Insurance at the rate in effect immediately prior to the commencement of leave and to participate in the Long Term Disability Plan.
D. The cost of participation in the available benefits will be paid entirely by the faculty member annually in advance. Where the approved leave was granted for educational or compassionate reasons, the University will refund to the faculty member upon her/his return to active employment that portion of the premiums which it would normally have paid had the faculty member been in active employment.
E. Association dues will be paid by the faculty member concerned in advance for the period of the authorized leave without pay. Payment will be made to the University, which will turn over any such collected dues to the Association together with the next remittance of dues deducted from the salary of other members (Article 2.4 C.).
Leaves Without Pay. An employee may apply for a full or partial leave of absence without pay from their position for personal reasons. If a department cannot accommodate a personal leave without pay, the employee may request a leave from the institution. Generally personal leaves are not granted for more than one year and only to those employees who have completed at least one year of service in a status position. See USY.V.C.16 for this benefit.
Leaves Without Pay. All leaves without pay requests for educational support employees require the approval of the senior human resources manager. Such leave may be approved only once each fiscal year. When an employee exhausts all their paid leave, employees may be out due to personal illness from work ten
Leaves Without Pay. The applications for and granting of such leaves of absence shall be in writing to the Human Resources Director or designee. Applications shall be given careful consideration and any denial will be set forth in writing with reasons on the basis of the best interest of the organization. Unit members on leaves without pay shall be permitted to continue participating in School’s insurance programs by making premium payments directly to the School. In addition, a unit member on such leave shall notify the Human Resources Director or designee by March 1st of the school year as to intent to return to employment in the school. Failure to notify may be considered an abandonment of position and forfeiture of all insurance benefits.
Leaves Without Pay. The President may grant unpaid full or partial leaves of absence for one (1) semester or one (1) year to full-time members. The President will report such leaves to the Board. Applications shall be filed not later than October 1 or February 1 preceding the semester in which the leave is requested. During an unpaid leave, a member may exercise the option of continuing all benefits normally provided by the University by paying all of the required premiums for such benefits. Leaves without pay shall be classified as: (a) pursuit of the member’s scholarly discipline; or (b) other purposes. A letter from the President granting such leave shall state for which of these purposes the leave is being granted. Leaves without pay in pursuit of the member’s scholarly discipline shall be considered periods of service for purposes of seniority, eligibility for tenure, promotion, or sabbatic leave. Leaves without pay for other purposes shall not be considered periods of service for purposes of seniority, eligibility for tenure, promotion, or sabbatic leave. Effective only upon return to active status, a member returning from leave of absence without pay shall be accorded all collective bargaining increases to base salary and fringe benefits which became effective during the period of the member’s leave of absence without pay which would have applied to the member had he/she not been on leave of absence without pay.
Leaves Without Pay. Leaves without pay may be granted to Full-time Faculty or Adjunct Faculty during the applicable contract period, with the approval of the President, for such purposes as the following: (1) study, (2) travel, (3) illness, (4) maternity/paternity/adoption, (5) special assignments, (6) occupational experience appropriate to his/her assignment and (7) other purposes. The terms and conditions of such leaves shall be mutually agreed to in writing prior to granting the leave. Upon return from leave, such Faculty Member shall have all rights and benefits which existed at the commencement of the leave restored.
