The Shift Vacancy clause defines the procedures and responsibilities for filling open or unassigned work shifts within an organization. Shift Vacancy. Transfer If a vacancy exists, or a transfer of personnel is determined necessary, the vacancy shall be posted for ten (10) calendar days, during this time, qualified bargaining unit members may bid for the position. All bids are to be submitted to the Fire Chief in writing. Seniority shall prevail in the filling of vacancies/transfers unless the experience, training and skills of a less senior bidder are greater, as approved by the Chief.
Shift Vacancy. In circumstances where existing shifts become vacant due to termination, resignation, promotion, demotion, or other events the vacant shift shall be posted for seven (7) calendar days. Unit members shall indicate their interest in filling that vacancy within the allotted time frame in writing to a supervisor. If more than one (1) unit member has indicated an interest in the vacancy, the unit member with the highest seniority shall be selected and consistent with section 6. 4.1.1. In the event that no unit member expresses an interest in the vacant shift, that shall be filled consistent with section 6.

When a shift vacancy is to be filled permanently by the lateral transfer of an employee on a different shift, and such fill-in is expected to trigger a series of lateral transfers to different shifts, the Executive Director or designee shall determine appropriate assignments.   • JOB VACANCIES 1. When a vacancy occurs or a new job category is created the employer shall: a. publish on the Daily Bulletin, on a weekly basis the title of the open position, the normal hours of work for the open position, and a brief summary of the desired qualifications of applicants. The wage rate will not be published. b. send to the Secretary of the Union, on a weekly basis, a list of all vacancies which might exist at that time. c. For Food Services and Custodial section, Regular Ongoing vacancies will be posted twice per year, and Regular Recurring vacancies will be posted once per year. In the Custodial section, Regular Ongoing vacancies will normally be posted in June and November, and Regular Recurring vacancies will normally be posted in January. In Food Services, Regular Ongoing vacancies will normally be posted in May and November, and Regular Recurring vacancies will normally be posted in May. It is understood that some vacancies may be posted at other times through the year as the need arises. Postings that are not expected to be filled internally may be posted concurrently however the University agrees to review any internal applicants prior to reviewing any external applicants. Any concurrent job posting will apply only to Food Services and Custodial positions. Prior to any permanent vacant position being posted bargaining wide under clause #1, vacant assignments will be offered to interested employees, departmentally, as follows: (i) Food Services employees will submit a written expression of interest indicating that they wish to change their shift and/ or worksite. (ii) Vacancies will be offered within classification to the most senior qualified applicant. After the vacant assignment has been filled and prior to any position being posted bargaining unit wide, employees who had submitted a written expression of interest as per (i) above will be offered available backfill assignments, within their assigned working group (either student village facilities or other than student village facilities), and within classification, to the most senior qualified employee. 2. When a temporary position, which is expected to have a duration of two (2) months or more, becomes available a Regular employee as defined in Article 1, clause 3 (a) and (b), who has completed his/her probationary period will be offered a promotion to the temporary position consistent with the provisions of Article 8, clause 5 and clause 7(a) and 7(b) of the Collective agreement, provided: a. such employee has previously submitted a written expression of interest expressing interest in obtaining a temporary promotion to a higher job classification, and b. the employee possesses the minimum required qualifications for the temporary position. At the conclusion of such temporary position any Regular employee, as defined in Article 1, clause 3(a) and (b), who has accepted the temporary promotion will return to his/her former position with no loss of seniority. 3. Insofar as it is practicable to do so in the Food Services Department, the University agrees to give first consideration to the seniority standing of employees within each working seniority group as indicated in Article 8, clause 6 (a) (c) – student village facilities, and (b)

  • Vacancy ‌ For purposes of this Article, a vacancy occurs when: A. An employee notifies management, in writing, that he/she intends to vacate his/her position; or B. Management notifies an employee, in writing, that the employee will be removed from his/her position.

  • Permanent Vacancies a) The Employer will post notice of a vacancy in a bargaining unit job within ten (10) working days from the date of the vacancy (providing the position is going to be filled) setting forth the position, location, and shift, and it shall be posted for a period of five (5) working days. A vacancy exists when there are more positions than employees in the bargaining unit. Any interested employee may apply in writing. After the end of the posting period, an employee may not apply, regardless of his/her reason for failure to apply during the posting period, and also regardless of his/her seniority standing relative to those who did bid during the posting period. The Employer may fill a posted job on a temporary basis during the posting period. b) The position shall be awarded within fifteen (15) working days from the end of the posting period. The vacancy shall be filled based on the equally weighted components of skill, ability to acquire the necessary knowledge to perform the job, prior job performance and seniority. Employees who have applied for a posted vacancy, upon request, shall be informed in writing of the reason(s) for not being selected. A copy of the notification will be placed in the employee’s file. The Employer shall provide the Union President with a copy of the posting, the names of the applicants and to whom the position was awarded. c) During the first ten (10) days on his/her new job, the employer will provide assignment specific training to the employee. During the first forty-five (45) working days on his/her new job, a successful applicant may elect to return to his/her former job, or the Employer may elect to retransfer the applicant to his/her former job at the former pay rate and benefit level in the event he/she fails to demonstrate his/her ability to do the required work with written notice of documented reasons with a copy to the President. This shall not be subject to the grievance procedure. If the job is so vacated, the Employer may select another applicant from the earlier posting. d) After an employee's successful application, he/she shall be ineligible to apply for another posted job for six (6) months. However, if a vacancy arises in a higher paying position, an employee may apply after thirty (30) days in position. Sub-sections c and d do not apply to the Transportation unit (drivers). e) Employees may submit a request to the Director of Operations and/or Chief Financial Officer for a transfer within their classification. The request for transfer should state the reason(s) for the transfer. If the request is not granted the employee will, upon request, be given a written statement indicating the reason(s) for not implementing the transfer. No transfer shall take place until the replacement employee is adequately trained. f) The employer shall provide on the job training to any employee seeking to upgrade their skills in their current job classification. Upon receipt of appropriate written requests, the training will be completed within a year. The time and location of the assignment shall be at the discretion of the employer.
