The Class Size Guidelines clause establishes the maximum and/or minimum number of students permitted in a classroom or educational setting. Class Size Guidelines. Unless adjusted in accordance with the following provisions, class size limits for the term of this Agreement shall be those in effect as of the date of signing of this Agreement, as recorded in the official course outline.
Class Size Guidelines. The Board and the Bargaining Unit agree that the following maximum class sizes are desirable to promote a positive learning environment.
1. (a) Grades 9 and 10 (Non-Technical)
Class Size Guidelines. The Board has established a targeted class size to be between 25 and 30 students. Whenever feasible, lab classes should not exceed the designated lab stations. Each high school shall be assigned a full-time Lab Technician. The job description, duties and decision to hire the lab technicians shall remain with the Board.
Class Size Guidelines. The applicable class size guidelines of the Ministry of Education and regulations of the Education Act shall be followed. Note 1: Class sizes under the minimum of the acceptable range are not grievable. Note 2: Due to various anomalies, exceptions to the class size guidelines will be made only as agreed by the Board and the Union.
Class Size Guidelines. The Board and Association recognize and believe in the philosophy of maintaining reasonable class sizes whenever possible. The parties agree to work together in an attempt to resolve problems as they arise.
Class Size Guidelines a. Initial Class Size: Subject to Article D.1.4.b staffing plans for the commencement of the school year shall be based upon the levels indicated in Article D.
Class Size Guidelines. A. The Board will make every effort to maintain the following class sizes and teacher loads subject to such limiting factors as availability and adequacy of facilities, personnel, and monetary resources:
a) The maximum enrollment in K-5 classes shall be no more than twenty-five (25) pupils.
b) The Administration will consider the individual educational needs of students in compliance with state and federal law. The Board and the Association recognize and agree that the range of learner types a teacher is assigned is a significant factor affecting instructional effectiveness, and the administration will ensure that class rosters are distributed to teachers on an equitable basis.
c) Middle school teachers shall be responsible for not more than one hundred and twenty- five (125) pupils per grading period.
d) High school class size will be twenty-seven (27) or fewer, with the exception of performing ensembles or JROTC. High school teachers shall be responsible for not more than one hundred and twenty-five (125) pupils per grading period.
e) Every effort shall be made to equitably distribute student counts among grade level teams and departments.
f) Student counts at both the middle and high school would be exclusive of band, orchestra and /or chorus experiences or any type of flex or enhancement period.
g) Classes based on student performance should be distributed to teachers on an equitable basis.
h) The foregoing standards enumerated in this Article are subject to modification for educational purposes such as the promotion of specialized or experimental instruction or for temporary classes such as split grade classes or one-semester courses.
i) Teachers teaching six (6) classes shall be compensated according to the following formula:
i. Salary/186 = x (teacher’s daily rate of pay) ii. x/5=y (teacher’s rate per class)
Class Size Guidelines. It is acknowledged that the primary duty and responsibility of the teacher is to teach and that the organization of the school day should be directed at insuring that the energy of the teacher is appropriately utilized.
A. As the pupil-teacher ratio is an important aspect of an effective educational program, the parties agree that the class size, when ideally achieved, should be kept within the following guidelines: 3-8 30 students Young 5‟s 21 students English 30 students Social Studies 30 students Mathematics: Algebra 30 students Geometry 30 students Trig 30 students General Math 25 students Science: Jr. High Science 28 students Biology 30 students Chemistry 30 students Physics 25 students Foreign Language 25 students Industrial Arts 26 students Business 20 students Typing 30 students General Music 40 students Band Unlimited Chorus Unlimited Art 24 students Physical Education 40 students
Class Size Guidelines. It is acknowledged that the primary duty and responsibility of the teacher is to teach and that the organization of the school day should be directed at ensuring that the energy of the teacher is appropriately utilized.
A. As the student-teacher ratio is an important aspect of an effective educational program, the parties agree that the class size, when ideally achieved, will be kept within the following guidelines: Young 5’s 18 students (21) K-2 23 students (26) 3-6 25 students (28) 7-12 29 students (no threshold) General Music 40 students Band Unlimited Vocal Music Unlimited Art 28 students Physical Education 40 students STEM 28 students
B. When a class section exceeds the threshold number by one (1), the Administration and Association will meet to problem solve. Solutions to be discussed will include adding another grade level teacher and classroom in K-6, or increasing overage compensation. These limits may be exceeded by one (1) or more under the following plan of compensation:
a. A payment of $60 per nine (9) week grading period will be paid to a secondary teacher for each student over the limit in which the student is enrolled at least two-thirds (2/3) of the days scheduled in that grading period. In the event both the per day and per class limits are exceeded, payments will be made on the maximum dollar amount the teacher is entitled to as mutually determined by the supervising Principal and the member.
b. Teachers and Principals may agree to adding an additional section in place of a teacher’s planning time. Salary will be adjusted based on FTE(full time equivalent) increase. (For example, teacher will increase from 1.0 FTE to 1.2 FTE with an additional section.)
c. All K-12 specialist teachers will be paid this rate prorated per hour of student contact.
d. A payment of $260 per pupil per quarterly grading period, or prorated per hour of student contact time, will be paid to those elementary teachers with non-split level classes, for each student over the limit in which the student is enrolled for at least two-thirds (2/3) of the days scheduled in that grading period.
e. Written applications for payments under this provision are to be submitted by the member to the supervising Principal within 15 work days of the end of the marking period and shall state the basis for the compensation requested.
Class Size Guidelines. The Board and the Council acknowledge these maximum class sizes as goals (save in experimental or innovative situations), the realizations of which would redound to the educational benefit of the students in the District. The Board will give due consideration to these maximums in its long-range planning. The extent to which progress might be made toward achieving these maximums will, of course, depend on budgetary limitations, availability of educators and necessary funds. When, within a given building, inequities result from team teaching, innovative programming or established agreement between principal and educators, reasonable effort will be made to equalize the number of pupils per class period.
1. Primary (K, 1, 2) = 23.
2. Intermediate (3, 4, 5) = 25.
3. Middle School:
a. regular classes = 28 b. developmental reading = 14
4. Special Education = as recognized by the Illinois Office of Education for reimbursement eligibility. The principal shall meet with Council representatives during the second week in October to review any cases in which the size of a specific class poses special problems and shall submit a report to the Superintendent. Special problems, among other things, may include the individual needs of students, the physical space of the classroom and cases in which the class size exceeds the District’s current staffing guidelines. The Superintendent or designee shall review each case. Special problems also may be a subject for discussion at the monthly meeting between the Superintendent and the Council Executive Committee. Any alterations in present Board policy regarding classroom pupil educator ratios will be preceded by consultation among the Administration, Board and Council before implementation.
