College Preparation Clause Samples

The College Preparation clause outlines the responsibilities and provisions related to preparing a student for college admission and success. It typically specifies the types of support or resources that will be provided, such as academic counseling, standardized test preparation, or assistance with college applications. By clearly defining these obligations, the clause ensures that all parties understand their roles in supporting the student's transition to higher education, thereby reducing misunderstandings and helping to facilitate a smooth college preparation process.

College Preparation. It is the mission of the College Counseling and Guidance Office at JPIIHS to guide and support students and their families through the college search and application process. We endeavor to work with students as individuals, to understand who they are beyond the classroom and to help them find a college that will provide a challenging and comfortable environment for them on all levels. In order to help our students begin to understand and prepare for the college process, counselors meet with students and parents in individual academic conferences beginning the freshman year and continuing through the junior year. The college counseling process begins in their freshman year as students are encouraged to understand that college preparation is a compilation of their entire high school academic and co-curricular experience. Our counselors seek to build an open relationship with students and their families in order to understand all of the factors involved as the college list is developed. Their role is to assist and advocate for students and to make sure that choices are informed and appropriate.

College Preparation. Integrated within our curriculum is a strong focus on college preparation. The Founding Board understands that even with the most rigorous academic curriculum, there are practical concerns that must be addressed before entering college. Therefore, beginning in the sixth grade, students will have a college preparation curriculum interwoven into their college visits to address practical concerns like entrance requirements, expectations for their dream schools, scholarship information, geographical location of their potential schools, majors and minors offered at different locations, and college graduation requirements.4 This practical knowledge will allow students and families to plan accordingly as they prepare for college. In CCA-West’s third year, the school anticipates hiring a director of high school placement to do the following: facilitate the incorporation of high school and college readiness skills and methods into classrooms; support the high school admission process; and, over time, support our alumni and create a strong alumni network. This person will facilitate school-wide professional development on how to talk about college and excite students about college in every class. S/he will work closely with individual students and families throughout the high school application process, develop relationships with a variety of high schools, and (with CCA-West’s returning alumni) support the college application process as needed. This role is pivotal in CCA-West’s ability to reach the school’s goal of sending all students to demanding high schools and colleges. Community Meetings will be held on Fridays, when the school will meet as a whole and highlight successes and challenges within the school environment. The meetings will be led by faculty and staff but will also provide leadership opportunities for students. During Community Meetings, individual students and classes will be rewarded for their accomplishments throughout the week. After the academic day, students are able to participate in enrichment activities, including basketball, soccer, student government, and computer literacy. Technology plays a role in the curriculum and assessment program at Columbus Collegiate.
