Contract Positions. Temporary/Grant a) Contract positions are either temporary or created by a grant with an expected duration of twelve (12) calendar months or less. Contract positions with an expected duration in excess of one hundred and twenty (120) days shall be posted internally, subject to paragraph (b) below. b) If the contract position is the result of a grant, the terms of the grant prevail in the event of a conflict between the terms of the grant and the provisions of this Collective Agreement. (For example, the terms of the grant may preclude internal posting of the position or establish a specified wage rate.) c) An employee in a contract position in excess of the time periods set out in paragraph (a) above, shall become a member of the bargaining unit, if not already a member of the bargaining unit prior to the start of the contract position and shall be entitled to the rights of the Collective Agreement subject to the limitations set out in this Article. d) The cessation or expiry of a contract position shall not be the subject of any grievance (i.e. individual, group, policy or otherwise) and shall not be subject to any of the requirements, restrictions or obligations under the Collective Agreement including provisions respecting layoff, termination, dismissal or reduction of hours. e) In the event that a contract employee becomes a bargaining unit employee pursuant to paragraph (c) above, upon completion of the contract term, the employee shall be transferred to the on-call list subject to the following requirements: (i) The employee has successfully completed probation; and (ii) She has not successfully bid on a full-time or regular part-time position. In this case, the employee will be credited on a pro-rated basis with seniority for her time worked and will continue to accumulate seniority as do other call-in employees for the purpose of bidding on jobs. f) Bargaining unit employees who assume contract positions shall still be considered bargaining unit employees and shall have all the rights and privileges under the Collective Agreement that they held prior to assuming the contract position, subject to paragraph (d) above. g) If a member of the bargaining unit fills the contract position, once the position is completed, all seniority employees who have filled positions in the chain shall return to their previous positions, if they exist. h) The incumbent will be notified within seven (7) days of the end date, if there is an extension. i) Where a regular p...
Contract Positions a) An employee who bids successfully on a contract position, which is a non-grant position, shall remain in that position for the full posted term of the appointment (subject to Article 12.07 Trial Period) except to bid on another contract position in a higher classification exceeding ninety (90) days or bid on a permanent position in the same or higher classification. If the employee is within two (2) weeks of the end of the contract position, the employee may bid on any posted position. A laid off employee who is filling a contract position is eligible to apply for any permanent job posting, regardless of its classification. b) An employee who bids successfully on a contract position that is a grant position shall remain in that position for the full-posted term of the appointment (subject to Article 12.07 Trial Period) for up to one (1) year. c) A contract employee who has filled a position for longer than one (1) year may bid on other contract or permanent positions for which she is qualified. d) In the event that a contract position is extended and the employee in the position agrees to the extension, there is no requirement that the job be re-posted.

Contract Positions. When a new contract position is available (excluding specially funded positions e.g. IRCS) it shall be posted and awarded as per the collective agreement. If a contract covering a permanent position within a classification, as set out in Article 12.08, ends and the person in that contract has more seniority, they shall have the option to displace the person with the least seniority, currently in a contract. If the person in the terminated contract is a permanent full-time employee they shall return to their full-time position. At all times program needs/requirements with male/female compliment will be considered.

Contract Positions. 13.6.1 Where the employer decides to create a permanent position from a position that was previously a fixed term contract position, the incumbent shall have the same opportunity as all permanent employees in applying for the position. 13.6.2 Provided a contract employee on the employer’s payroll has worked for the employer for a minimum of six (6) months, that employee will be able to apply for positions advertised internally.
Contract Positions. The Employer and the Union recognize that contract positions that are discreet pieces of work in the form of projects, short-term replacements, or assignments for a specific length of time will be necessary in CCIC. The Employer can use contracts to retain temporary Employees and/or consultants for a specific project or projects. When contracts are necessary, the preference is to hire temporary Employees. However, both Parties also agree that any positions that are ongoing and continuing work of the organization shall be recognized as established positions. To this end, the Employer shall undertake a review and analysis of the use of all contracts (temporary Employees and consultants). The analysis will also become an integral part of the annual planning process of the Employer after a thorough consultation with the Union.
