Lone Working. Where mentors agree to meet for a face to face session, this meeting should be arranged to take place in a public place. Mentors should not meet mentee’s in a place where they will be on their own. Public places may be libraries, Branch events meeting places, foyers of hotels or cafes, general offices. It is expected that if travelling to meetings mentors will be insured having the appropriate car insurance, be licensed to drive the car and the car will be registered and have a current WOF.
Lone Working. It is Ok for Members to work alone in the space but they must avoid activities which are more risky such as using power tools (unless an appropriate risk assessment has been done and lone working is acceptable in that assessment), or working at height. If you aren’t sure about an activity, don’t undertake it when alone. • Before starting any activity or using some kit, you must read the relevant risk assessment(s) which are made available to you (Appendix 4). If there is anything you don’t understand you must ask a supervisor to help. Some activities are riskier than just being in the space, such as using certain bits of kit or working at height on a ladder. Don’t attempt to do any of these without checking the appropriate health and safety briefing and following any directions posted in the space or given by a supervisor or other member. If in doubt, or if you don’t understand any instructions or guidance, or you do not feel confident, do not attempt the activity. Remember that risks may apply to others in the space and not just yourself. Also note that activities which may be OK when it’s just Members in the space may not be OK if members of the public are also present. Trip hazards, rubbish collection, recycling ▪ In a busy environment it is particularly important to keep trip hazards to a minimum. ▪ It is important to keep space and activity areas tidy. ▪ Please keep an eye out for rubbish. If you see rubbish on the floor please pick it up and dispose of it. ▪ Separate regular rubbish from card, glass bottles, drinks cans, plastic bottles (actual recyclables list is shown on bins). Put rubbish out in appropriate bins. If the bins are full don’t pile rubbish outside, leave it neatly in the space (General Waste is emptied weekly (Thursdays) and Dry Mixed Recycling every 2 weeks (Thursdays). ▪ There bins throughout the space, if it looks fully – empty it and replace the bag if needed. Lone Working. ‌ You must not work in any space outside the “ears and eyes” of an Inca employee for more than ten minutes, unless you are able to make a safe alternative arrangement that you have agreed with your Inca host. Before starting such work, you must advise your Inca host, or other relevant Inca employee that you are about to start work in such a space. Reporting Accidents/Near Misses‌ You are required to report to your Inca host any accident or near miss, however caused. The Company needs to learn from such events and, in the interests of yourself, our employees, and future contractors, you are required to report such events. Reporting Damage (including environmental damage)‌ You are required to report damage, however minor, to any item of any kind on the Company’s site, to your Inca host. Horseplay/Discrimination‌ Inca Digital Printers Ltd fully supports the legal provisions on discrimination. Any contractor suspected of being in breach of this is likely to be sent off the premises whilst an investigation is conducted. If the result is unfavourable, the contractor may not be allowed to come back to the Company’s site. Inca Digital Printers Ltd does not allow horseplay to occur on its site. In any such instances, a contractor or its employees will be instructed to leave the premises. Any activity in contravention of UK law will be deemed a breach of contract. Drinking of Alcohol or Use of any other Intoxicating or Illegal Substances‌ Alcohol is not permitted to be consumed on sites occupied by Inca Digital Printers Ltd. If any contractor is found to be under the influence of alcohol or an illegal substance, they will be instructed to leave the premises. Any such situation will be deemed a breach of contract. Confidential Information‌ It is possible that contractors could come across documents, methods or processes of a confidential, personal, or restricted nature. On no account should any document or information of a confidential, personal, or restricted nature be taken from the Company site, nor should it be passed on to any other party or otherwise publicised without the express permission of your Inca host. Methods and practices of our Company must not be publicised or discussed with other parties without the express permission of your Inca host.
Lone Working. The CCG will manage the risks of Lone Working by: - Identifying individuals who may travel alone, work alone on site or work alone in community settings - Completing risk assessments for lone working outlining the specific risks and detailing the agreed local procedure - Ensuring that the local procedure for safety when lone working is agreed with staff and that staff use it in their day to day work The Local procedure should at a minimum include the requirement for all lone workers: - To complete a Personal Details information form including contact details, car details and next of kin information - To have access to a telephone when working alone - To maintain a diary that is accessible to others - To ensure someone is aware that they are working alone
Lone Working. An employee or agency appointee who works on their own whilst undertaking a work related task and who does not have regular formal contact with a colleague or supervisor or is not in a place where there are other people within easy contact is classified as a lone worker. This can apply to someone working late in an office, laboratory or other location as well as operators on a large site where other people may be sited, but there is no formal and regular contact. ▇▇▇▇ working specifically excludes: - • Driving to or from your place of work or site to site journeys • Travel on public transport that is work related • Working from home Use the Lone Worker Decision Tree (Appendix1) to assist you in making the judgement as to whether your employees are lone workers. Where possible lone working is to be avoided and shall NOT be undertaken where a significant risk is identified. The definition of significant risk shall be determined by a risk assessment however if it doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t and therefore every support should be given to respect the lone workers wishes should they request to be accompanied. Where lone working is to be undertaken all suppliers shall: • Identify all tasks which involve lone working. • Consider the risks associated with these tasks. • Review the control measures available to limit the risks. • Implement suitable control measures and safe systems of work • Prepare and record all procedures and brief to all those affected The use of lone working “Call in /Call out” or mobile technology is recommended with rapid response procedures for alarms being raised or any failures in calling back to an agreed time- frame. All staff shall be trained on lone working procedures.
Lone Working. Activities involving significant hazards during lone working shall comply with the following applicable CERN Safety Rules:  Safety code A6: Two-person rule of working;  Safety note NS8: Two-person rule of working. 5.11.2.1 Control measures According to the Safety code A6 workers shall not work alone where significant hazard exists. A second person is required in order to provide appropriate assistance in the event of an emergency. The two-person rule applies to activities where workers are or may be exposed to more risks than those encountered in low-risk activities such as bureaucratic activities, library or secretarial work, painting (not on a ladder), manual operations in a workshop or gardening by hand. Some one-person activities are allowed if adequate control measures are implemented.
