REST/MEAL BREAKS. A. REST BREAKS 1. The AIRPORT AUTHORITY will grant all employees a paid fifteen (15) minute rest break during each four (4) hour shift. Employees who work a shift in excess of eight (8) hours will be granted an additional prorated rest break. Rest breaks will be scheduled and approved by the Supervisor with due consideration given to work coverage requirements within the department. 2. Employees may not leave AIRPORT AUTHORITY property during paid fifteen (15) minute rest breaks. 3. Employees that are required to work through their respective rest break(s) will be allowed, when available, to end their regularly scheduled shift earlier than normal by the amount of time that would have been spent on their rest break(s). Employees will still be paid through the end of their regularly scheduled shift. 4. Employees that are required to work through respective rest break(s) and are unable to end their regularly scheduled shift earlier than normal, will add any untaken rest break time onto their time card on the applicable day and will be paid for this time at their base rate of pay. This may result in an employee being paid for more than eighty (80) hours in a pay period at a non-overtime rate. Untaken rest breaks occurring during overtime hours will be paid at the overtime rate of pay. B. MEAL BREAKS 1. All employees working a shift in excess of eight (8) hours shall be allowed a non- compensated meal break of not less than thirty (30) minutes but not more than sixty (60) minutes. Meal breaks will be scheduled and approved by the Supervisor and will generally occur in the middle of the employee's work shift. 2. Employees that are interrupted during or required to work through their meal break will be allowed, when available, to: a. End their regularly scheduled shift earlier than normal by the amount of time lost from the interruption or by the amount of time that would have been spent on their meal break. Employees will still be paid through the end of their regularly scheduled shift; b. Complete or take their meal break upon return from the interruption; or c. Add the untaken meal break time onto their time card (this option is only available to employees that are required to work through their entire meal break). Overtime provisions may apply to this additional time. 3. Due to the nature of certain positions, the AIRPORT AUTHORITY has determined that some employees are required to be available during their entire shift for immediate response or due to other reasons and are therefore not consistently able to take a thirty (30) or sixty (60) minute meal break. Under these circumstances, employees will be paid for all hours worked, including any time given to take a meal break, not to exceed fifteen (15) minutes in duration.

The AIRPORT AUTHORITY will grant all employees Rest Breaks - Employees shall receive a paid rest period of fifteen (15) minute rest break during minutes, on the Employer's time, for each work period of four (4) hours or more. Rest periods shall be scheduled as near as possible to the midpoint of each four (4) hour shiftwork period and shall be taken at the work site or closest location where lavatory and washing facilities are available. Employees who work a shift in excess of eight (8) hours will No employee shall be granted an additional prorated rest break. Rest breaks will be scheduled and approved by the Supervisor with due consideration given to work coverage requirements within the department.
2. Employees may not leave AIRPORT AUTHORITY property during paid fifteen (15) minute rest breaks.
3. Employees that are required to work through their respective rest break(s) will be allowed, when available, to end their regularly scheduled shift earlier than normal by the amount of time that would have been spent on their rest break(s). Employees will still be paid through the end of their regularly scheduled shift.
4. Employees that are required to work through respective rest break(s) and are unable to end their regularly scheduled shift earlier than normal, will add any untaken rest break time onto their time card on the applicable day and will be paid for this time at their base rate of pay. This may result in an employee being paid for more than eighty three (803) hours in without a pay period at a non-overtime raterest period. Untaken Missed rest breaks occurring during are not compensable as overtime. Breaks may not be collected or not taken in order to shorten the work day or work week. Meal Periods - During regular or overtime hours will be paid at the overtime rate of pay.
B. MEAL BREAKS
1. All work shifts, employees working a shift in excess of eight (8) hours shall be allowed a non- compensated meal break period of not less than thirty (30) minutes but not more than sixty (60) minutes. Meal breaks will which shall be scheduled and approved by the Supervisor and will generally occur in the middle of on the employee's own time. The meal period shall commence within one (1) hour of the mid-point of shift. No employee shall be required to work more than five (5) consecutive hours without a meal period, unless such is waived by mutual agreement between the employee and the City. One-half (1/2) hour overtime at the one and one-half (1.5) rate shall be paid to an employee who is directed by management to work through a meal period (hereafter referred to as a “work through”) and receives no meal period for the work shift.
2. Employees that are interrupted during or required Example 1, an employee who normally works eight (8) hours per day with a half (1/2) hour unpaid meal period is directed to work through their meal break will be allowedperiod and ends the work day having worked eight and one-half (8.5) hours. The employee is paid straight time for the first eight (8) hours worked, when availablepaid at time and one-half (1.5) for the next half hour worked, to:and paid at time and one-half (1.5) for the half (1/2) hour of work through.
a. End their regularly scheduled shift earlier than normal Example 2, an employee who normally works eight (8) hours per day with a half (1/2) hour unpaid meal period is directed by the amount of time lost from the interruption or by the amount of time that would have been spent on their meal break. Employees will still be paid through the end of their regularly scheduled shift;
b. Complete or take their meal break upon return from the interruption; or
c. Add the untaken meal break time onto their time card (this option is only available to employees that are required management to work through their entire meal break)period, but the employee requests to leave work a one (1) hour early and ends the day having worked seven and a half (7.5) hours. Overtime provisions may apply to this additional timeThe employee is paid straight time for the eight (8) hours worked. The pay for the half (1/2) hour of work through is negated by the employee leaving work an hour early.
Example 3, an employee requests to work through lunch in order to leave work early without having to use up her accrued leave. Due Supervisor approves. There is mutual agreement and the “work through” provision does not apply.
6.3.1 Prior to the nature taking of certain positionsa meal period, the AIRPORT AUTHORITY has determined that some employees are required to employee shall be available during their entire shift for immediate response or due to other reasons and are therefore not consistently able to take allowed a thirty five (30) or sixty (605) minute period for cleanup and travel to the employee’s work-base location. If an employee takes the meal breakperiod at the work site, said employee shall be prepared to resume work immediately after the meal period. Under these circumstancesIn the event that the employee takes the meal period at the above-referenced lunch room, or a nearby sanitary facility, the employee shall be allowed five (5) minutes travel time to return to the work site.
6.3.2 For employees will be paid for all on an overtime or temporary rescheduled shift, if the meal period falls between the hours workedof 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, including any time given to take a meal break, not to exceed fifteen (15) minutes shall be reimbursed consistent with the lunch rate in durationthe Employer’s reimbursement policy.
