Common use of Retaining Seniority Clause in Contracts

Retaining Seniority. An employee who accepts a position outside the Bargaining Unit will retain seniority standing within the unit for a period of six (6) months. A person who is rehired from a position outside the Bargaining Unit may return to his/her former classification without loss of seniority providing such classification is open, that the time outside the Bargaining Unit has not exceeded six (6) months, and that no current employee is demoted due to his/her return.
