Surface Smoothness Clause Samples

Surface Smoothness. The surface course, upon completion of final rolling, shall be smooth and true to grade and cross-section. When a 12-foot straightedge is laid on the surface parallel with the centerline, the surface shall not vary more than 1/8 inch from the straightedge. When the 12-foot straightedge is laid on the surface transverse to the centerline between the crown and edge of pavement, the surface shall not vary more than 1/4 inch from the straightedge. Low or defective areas shall be immediately corrected by cutting out the faulty areas and replacing with fresh hot mixture and compacting the area to conform to the remainder of the pavement. Testing for plan grade conformance and surface smoothness shall be preformed by the Contractor in the presence of a representative of the City Engineer. Tests shall be made at intervals as directed by the City Engineer. The City Engineer may direct the contractor to diamond grind areas that are out of tolerance in lieu of above replacement.
Surface Smoothness. 1. The Contractor will test finished surface of each asphalt concrete course for smoothness, using a 10 foot straightedge applied parallel to and at right angles to centerline of paved areas 2. Check surface areas at intervals directed by Architect. 3. Surfaces will not be acceptable if exceeding the following: a. Surface Course: 1/4 inch in 10 feet 4. Provide final surfaces of uniform texture, conforming to required grades and cross sections.
Surface Smoothness. 36 The completed surface of all courses shall be of uniform texture, smooth, uniform as to 37 crown and grade, and free from defects of all kinds. The completed surface of the 38 wearing course shall not vary more than ⅛ inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot 39 straightedge placed on the surface parallel to the centerline. The transverse slope of the 40 completed surface of the wearing course shall vary not more than ¼ inch in 10 feet from 41 the rate of transverse slope shown in the Plans. 42 43 When deviations in excess of the above tolerances are found that result from a high 44 place in the HMA, the pavement surface shall be corrected by one of the 45 following methods:

Removal of material from high places by grinding with an approved grinding 2 machine, or 3 2. Removal and replacement of the wearing course of HMA, or 4 3. By other method approved by the Engineer. 5 6 Correction of defects shall be carried out until there are no deviations anywhere greater 7 than the allowable tolerances. 8 9 Deviations in excess of the above tolerances that result from a low place in the HMA and 10 deviations resulting from a high place where corrective action, in the opinion of the 11 Engineer, will not produce satisfactory results will be accepted with a price adjustment.
Surface Smoothness. 3.14.1 The finished surfaces of the pavement shall be uniform in appearance, free from irregularities in contour and texture and shall present a smooth-riding surface. Smoothness evaluation applies to all hot mix asphalt concrete roadways receiving 1.5 inch or more in plan (compacted) thickness of HMA pavement. a. Removing and replacing the entire pavement thickness; b. Diamond grinding or micro milling; c. Overlaying (not patching) with the specified surface course; d. Removing the surface by ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and applying a lift(s) of the specified course(s); e. Use of other methods that will provide the desired results; The corrective method(s) chosen by the Contractor shall be performed at the Contractor’s expense, including all necessary equipment and traffic control. Areas of removal and replacement shall be removed the full width of the lane. The removal areas shall begin and end with a transverse butt joint which shall be constructed with a transverse saw cut perpendicular to the centerline. Replacement materials shall be placed in sufficient quantity so the finished surface will conform to grade and smoothness requirements. The corrective area shall conform to all material and density specification requirements. When the corrective work consists of an overlay, the overlay shall cover the full width of the pavement including shoulders. The area overlaid shall begin and end with a transverse butt joint which shall be constructed with a transverse saw cut and asphalt removal. All materials shall meet contract requirements. The overlay shall be placed so the finished surface will conform to grade and smoothness requirements. The overlaid area shall be compacted to the specified density. The Engineer shall retest any sections where corrections were made to verify that the corrections produced a surface that conforms to the grade and smoothness requirements
Surface Smoothness. Check surface tolerance as specified in Section 1047.3(h)4.
Surface Smoothness. Finished surface of each hot-mix asphalt course will be tested for compliance with smoothness tolerances.
Surface Smoothness. 9 The second sentence of Section 5-04.3(13) is revised to read: 10 11 (January 5, 2004) 12 The completed surface of the wearing course shall not vary more than 1/4 inch from 13 the lower edge of a 10-foot straightedge placed on the surface parallel to centerline. 14
Surface Smoothness. The second sentence in the fourth paragraph of this section is deleted and replaced with the following: The completed surface of the wearing course shall not vary more than 1/4 inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot straightedge placed on the surface parallel to centerline.

Related to Surface Smoothness

  • Dewatering (a) Where the whole of a site is so affected by surface water following a period of rain that all productive work is suspended by agreement of the Parties, then dewatering shall proceed as above with Employees so engaged being paid at penalty rates as is the case for safety rectification work. This work is typically performed by Employees engaged within CW1, CW2 or CW3 classifications. When other Employees are undertaking productive work in an area or areas not so affected then dewatering will only attract single time rates. (b) Where a part of a site is affected by surface water following a period of rain, thus rendering some areas unsafe for productive work, consistent with the Employer’s obligations under the OH&S Act, appropriate Employees shall assist in the tidying up of their own work site or area if it is so affected. Where required, appropriate Employees will be provided with the appropriate PPE. Such work to be paid at single time rates. Productive work will continue in areas not so affected. (c) To avoid any confusion any ‘dewatering’ time which prevents an Employee from being engaged in their normal productive work is not included in any calculation for the purposes of determining whether an Employee is entitled to go home due to wet weather (refer clauses 32.4 and 32.5)

  • Drainage Systems (1) Clear culvert inlets, outlets, and sediment catching basins. (2) Maintain waterbars, drainage dips, and other water diversion measures. (3) During active use, patrol and maintain functional drainage. (4) Repair damaged culvert ends.

  • Groundwater Any water, except capillary moisture, beneath the land surface or beneath the bed of any stream, lake, reservoir or other body of surface water within the boundaries of this state, whatever may be the geologic formation or structure in which such water stands, flows, percolates, or otherwise moves.
