Teaching Assignments. A. Preference Forms (High School and Middle Schools) 1. Teachers shall be provided with standard- ized teaching assignment preference forms at the same time class estimates are distrib- uted. Teaching Assignments. A. Preference Forms (High School and Middle Schools)
1. Teachers shall not be provided assigned, except temporarily, and for good cause, outside the scope of their teaching certificates.
B. The District shall use its best efforts to notify teachers of their tentative assignments for the following school year by June 1 and, in any event, prior to the close of the current school year. Such notices shall include the school to which the teacher will be assigned, and the grade and subjects which he or she will teach. If changes in such assignments are made after the close of the school year, each teacher affected will be notified in writing by a letter directed to his or her address of record with standard- ized the District.
C. Teachers being involuntarily transferred shall be notified of the positions available in their tenure area. Such teachers may request the positions, in order of preference, to which they desire to be transferred. Their preference may be a primary factor considered in making the transfer. The District has full discretion to make the final determination on issues involving involuntary transfers.
D. No teacher (in Grades 7 to 12) shall have, without his or her consent, more than five teaching assignment preference forms periods a day or more than three separate subject matter preparations. No teacher below 7th grade shall have, without his or her consent, more than six teaching periods per day. Courses entitled "Advanced," "Regents," "General" or "Practical" are separate subject matter preparations. When two courses have different titles, but substantially the same curriculum and materials, the subject matter preparations for these courses are the same. An accelerated course is not a separate subject matter preparation from the related RS course. Basic math and skill labs are single subject matter preparations regardless of grade level.
E. Within the definitions of D above and when unforeseen circumstances warrant (Grades 7 to 12), the District may assign a fourth subject matter preparation to be compensated at $1,217 effective July 1, 2011. The District shall have the right to solicit an unlimited number of volunteers to teach a sixth period. Such teachers shall be compensated at the yearly rate of $6,083 effective July 1, 2011. The District shall also have the right to assign up to four (4) teachers per year to a sixth period at the same rate of compensation so long as such assignment does not eliminate the position of any full-time class estimates are distrib- utedteacher. Teaching Assignments. A. Preference Forms Teachers initially employed by the Board shall receive their building grade and/or subject assignments from the Superintendent's office.
B. Teachers shall be notified, in writing, of any change in their programs and schedules for the ensuing school year, including the schools to which they will be assigned and the grades and/or subjects that they will teach, prior to the close of the school year. In the event of a change in circumstances or conditions from the close of school, through August (High School e.g., resignation, death, promotion, and Middle Schools)leave of absence) such assignments may be changed only as required with reasonable effort being made to contact and consult the teacher involved prior to the actual change. In any event, prompt notice, in writing, of such changes will be forwarded to the teacher.
C. In the determination of assignments, the convenience and wishes of the teacher, as stated in writing by such teacher to the Superintendent, shall be honored to the extent that those considerations do not conflict with the instructional requirements and best interests of the school system and the pupils as determined by the Superintendent. Reasonable efforts will be made to have teachers who are in the first or second year of teaching remain in their assignment for a minimum of two years, including giving preference to such teachers to remain in their assignment over those who have more seniority in order to maintain the continuity of the assignment.
D. Teachers may be assigned to teach a sixth class subject to the following:

Caf- eteria and assignments for which supple- mentary contracts are needed will not count as selections in the preference course selection process. If either the student(s) and/or the teacher does not be assigned want to have the studio lesson outside the regular Saturday School hours of operation, the School will assign the “second choice” teacher, repeating the process used for the first choice teacher (and then repeating again, if necessary, for the “third” and “fourth” choice).
Section 2: At its discretion, the School may make assignments of chamber groups, elective courses, and studio lessons (where students decline to request a specific teacher or in the sciencecase of chamber groups, mathall students cannot agree on a specific teacher, social stud- ies or English departments if such as- signment causes a significant increase the requested teacher(s) are unavailable), provided the following conditions are met for all non-probationary teachers who are qualified for the available assignments:
a. There was nothing in the teacher-student ratio ’s evaluation (as per Article XVI Evaluation/Teaching Observation) that raises any concerns that s/he would be unable to complete the assignments(s) in a way that maintains the School’s standards of the other department members; or if the assign- ment results in three (3) non-course as- signment class periods.
c. Participation in the preference process pedagogical excellence. Any such concerns shall be limited to those who have taught at least three (3) classes in a department within a single school, or will be teach- ing three classes in a department.
d. Teachers who do not comply with the three (3) class rule will be assigned de- partmental courses still available after regular department members have their full assignments. This provision shall ap- ply to study halls and optional duties.
e. All teachers, regardless of their current assignment, who have been notified of a transfer to a different school will have the privilege of filing a preference form for teaching assignments at that school if the preference process has not been completed. Otherwise, teaching prefer- ence provisions may not be applicable until the following school year.
f. Preference forms shall be completed in both the receiving and sending schools if the transferee communicated to the sending school is unknown.
2. Teaching assignments for the ensuing school year shall be based on preference forms submitted to each teacher by April 15, and assignments shall conform to the procedures below.
a. Principal shall submit the number of courses and/or sections for each depart- ment to each department chairperson along with the preference formsteacher.
b. The department chairpersons shall then meet with their department for teacher has not had a formal written warning or suspension in either of the pur- pose of distributing teaching assignment preference forms and estimates to the de- partment memberspast 2 semesters.

Section 3: Precollege Division faculty members shall have the right to decline assignments. When preference forms present choices not in conflict, the principle of equitability will be consid- ered to have been fulfilled. Teaching Assignments. A. Preference Forms (High a) Employees shall have the right to request teaching assignments prior to May 1st of each school year.
(b) The appropriate supervisor or principal shall make available to each employee a form designed by the School System on which the employee may state a request for assignment(s). Such forms may be placed in employees’ mailboxes or made available to employees through some other reasonable means.
(c) The principal or supervisor shall give every consideration to an employee's request for assignment for which an employee is certified.
(d) The principal or supervisor shall notify employees of their tentative teaching assignment, including tentative subject matter and Middle Schools)
