Time for Professional Development. The Albuquerque Public School and the Albuquerque Teachers Federation agree on the importance of professional development. Professional development is the process by which teachers individually and jointly enhance and update their knowledge of standards, curriculum and content, and improve their instructional skills and strategies.
Time for Professional Development. The first institute day and the two (2) professional development days for each work year shall be structured as follows. The first institute day and the first professional development day shall each be scheduled as one (1) of the first two (2) workdays of the school year. The first institute day shall be utilized for two (2) or less hours of District business, two (2) or less hours of building business, and the remainder of the workday for team planning. The first professional development day shall be utilized for purposes consistent with the implementation of the school improvement plan as determined by the building instructional leadership team in accordance with State of Illinois requirements. The second professional development day shall be scheduled during the school year by the District to work on District initiatives. The District shall make a good faith effort to take the steps necessary so that the professional growth opportunities presented to teachers may be counted toward credit for the teacher's recertification plan if such meets the certificate renewal plan guidelines. The remaining institute days shall be scheduled during the school year by the District. Specific to special education staff and related service, the Administration agrees to schedule at least one (1) annual in-service opportunity pertaining to the staff development needs of special education teachers regarding special education policies, procedures, and practices. A staff survey may be sent out to determine individual staff needs, which will be in good faith considered by the Administration when scheduling future in services. In addition to the above, the District may purchase a maximum of three (3) additional workdays each work year for purposes of professional development as determined by the District. Such additional workdays may be scheduled as full workdays or half workdays provided no more than three (3) calendar days shall be scheduled in any single work year, whether full day or half day. Teachers who are required to participate shall be paid their individual per diem rate for each full workday or a pro-rated portion for each half workday. The District may schedule such additional workdays for the entire bargaining unit, or some lesser group as determined by the District. In so doing, the District shall not be arbitrary or capricious in selecting such groups, but shall do so in accordance with the legitimate needs of the District. The following time is available for professional development: o Extra day(s). One paid day added to the 182-day school year has been allocated for professional development. This day may be planned as a whole day (6.5 hours) or divided up throughout the school year. It is the Instructional Council’s responsibility to: o Work collaboratively with the whole staff to decide the content of the professional development and the date or dates it will be held. o Banked time. Minutes may be added to each instructional day (within the duty day) for the purpose of banking time for up to four (4) days within the school year. These are days in which students are dismissed so teachers can attend professional development. It is the Instructional Council’s responsibility to: o Decide in collaboration with the whole staff whether or not to bank between 1-4 days; o Coordinate with the cluster on the dates for the professional development days; o Work collaboratively with the whole staff to decide the content of the professional development and the date or dates it will be held.
Time for Professional Development. ECRA and ▇▇▇▇ shall work together to find methods of providing time for professional development during employee contractual work time obligations while adhering to state mandated instructional minutes, including, where possible, the scheduling of shortened and/or minimum days. 23.2.1 ECRA shall differentiate between common collaboration time and professional development. 23.2.2 Contingent upon the availability of funding and substitute coverage, course-alike PLCs within a department shall be allowed one (1) pull-out day per semester for collaboration time and professional development in order to advance the goals of the department, and shall be provided with materials, presenters, and substitute coverage as needed, provided the following conditions are met: a. The Department Chair provides an agenda with goals and objectives at least seventy-two (72) hours in advance to the administrator responsible for the department; and b. The Department Chair provide a summary report with outcomes and next steps at the end of the meeting, but no later than one (1) week following the meeting, to the administrator responsible for the department.

Any district-mandated training will be included in these hours.” It is optional to use part or all of the 13 hours set aside for professional development. It is the Instructional Council’s responsibility to: • Decide in collaboration with the whole staff whether or not to use up to 13 hours for professional development; • Come to consensus with the staff on the content of the professional development; • Come to consensus with the staff on the scheduling of up to 13 hours for professional development.

  • Professional Development 9.01 Continuous professional development is a hallmark of professional nursing practice. As a self-regulating profession, nursing recognizes the importance of maintaining a dynamic practice environment which includes ongoing learning, the maintenance of competence, career development, career counselling and succession planning. The parties agree that professional development includes a diverse range of activities, including but not limited to formal academic programs; short-term continuing education activities; certification programs; independent learning committee participation. The parties recognize their joint responsibility in and commitment to active participation in the area of professional development.

  • Professional Development Program (a) The parties agree to continue a Professional Development Program for the maintenance and development of the faculty members' professional competence and effectiveness. It is agreed that maintenance of currency of subject knowledge, the improvement of performance of faculty duties, and the maintenance and improvement of professional competence, including instructional skills, are the primary professional development activities of faculty members. (b) Information collected as part of this program shall be the sole property of the faculty member. This information or any judgments arising from this program shall not be used to determine non-renewal or termination of a faculty member's contract, suspension or dismissal of a faculty member, denial of advancement on the salary scale, nor affect any other administrative decisions pertaining to the promotion or employment status of the faculty member. (c) A joint advisory committee consisting of three regular faculty members who shall be elected by and are P.D. Committee Chairpersons and three administrators shall make recommendations for the operation, financing and management of the Professional Development Program.

  • Training and Professional Development 11.1 The Employer will develop and maintain an employee training and development plan and provide such plan to the Union upon request. Staff training is intended to provide an opportunity for classified staff employees for training sponsored by the University Training and Development and the UW Medical Centers Organizational Development and Training. Education/Professional Leave is intended to facilitate employee access to continuing education opportunities. Training and educational/professional leave may be used for the purpose of improving job performance, maintaining and increasing proficiency, preparing staff for greater responsibility, or increasing promotional opportunities within the framework of staff positions available at the University. 11.2 Any release time for training for employees accepted for such classes shall be in accordance with the Executive Order (currently No. 52) governing this matter. In the event that two or more employees request the same training period and supervision must limit the number of persons who may participate at one time due to work requirements, the selection will be made on a mutually agreeable basis within the department. 11.3 The training program is a proper subject for discussion by either departmental or University-wide Joint Union/Management Committees. 11.4 If the Employer requires an employee to receive training, reimbursement will be provided in accordance with the University travel rules. Employee attendance at Employer required training, either during or outside working hours, will be considered time worked and compensated in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement. 11.5 Employee attendance at training not required by the Employer and not covered by Executive Order 52, either on approved leave from or outside of working hours, will be voluntary and not considered time worked.
