Preference by Seniority. Conflicts in vacation requests shall be resolved initially by giving preference to the employee with the greatest seniority as previously defined in Section 9.0 on the shift and job assignment involved. However, the exercise of such a seniority preference by an employee shall be limited to a maximum period equal to the amount of weeks that employee accumulates on a semiannual basis during each vacation application period. Up to one (1) week additional vacation may be granted by the Sheriff at the Sheriff’s discretion in each application period. After the departmental vacation plan has been posted, employees who failed to obtain any of their three (3) preferences may select from the dates then available by making application in writing to their Shift Commander (Lieutenant) who will process such applications on a "first come - first served" basis; normally, one (1) week's advance notification to the employee's immediate supervisor must be given by the employee of the date desired by such an application.
Preference by Seniority. Seniority shall govern the choice of vacation periods; subject to reasonable scheduling requirements of the department provided the senior employee makes their choice of vacation time on or before the end of the scheduling period.
Preference by Seniority. The EMPLOYER shall ensure that the senior applicants for courses are given serious consideration in awarding the course. If all factors are equal, the senior employee shall receive the course.
Preference by Seniority. Preference in vacation shall be accorded by seniority to an employee who submits his vacation request in accordance with this Agreement over an employee who submits his request after the dates stated in this Article.

  • Super Seniority For purposes of layoff and recall only, the President shall head the seniority list, provided however, that such officer must have the necessary skill and experience to perform the required work. The Sheriff agrees that this section shall not be applied in an arbitrary manner.

  • Classification Seniority Classification Seniority" is defined as the length of service in a specific job classification within the bargaining unit, beginning with the date an employee starts to serve a probationary appointment. Classification Seniority shall be interrupted only by separation because of resignation, discharge for just cause, failure to return upon expiration of a leave of absence, failure to respond to a recall from layoff, or retirement.

  • Termination of Seniority An employee's seniority shall terminate: A. If the employee resigns B. If the employee retires C. If the employee is discharged D. If the employee is laid off for a period of more than twenty-four (24) consecutive months E. If the employee who has completed his/her probationary period fails to report to work as scheduled after any authorized absence or layoff, he may be terminated effective on the 4th calendar day following the scheduled return to work date

  • Application of Seniority Seniority shall be the controlling factor in the following situations:

  • Accumulation of Seniority The seniority of an employee shall continue to accrue during an absence due to: (a) accident or illness; (b) maternity or parental leave; (c) any unpaid leave of absence of up to twelve (12) months; (d) any paid leave of absence provided for under this Agreement.
