Sabbatical Leave Program. 14.1 Upon proper application and approval of the School Board, a sabbatical leave of up to one school year’s duration may be granted for professional improvement in the Teacher’s area of specialization. 14.2 A Teacher must have completed seven (7) consecutive years of employment with the District to apply for a one year leave or five (5) consecutive years employment in the District to apply for a one semester leave. 14.3 One member of the teaching staff, who has not previously been granted a sabbatical leave by the Lander County School District, may be on sabbatical leave during any one school year. The Teacher must apply prior to February 1 of the prior school year using forms prepared by the District. The Teacher must substantiate the benefit of such leave to the District and must describe the nature of the course of proposed study. 14.4 Salary is to be set at one-half (½) of the amount of the Teacher’s contract salary in effect during the sabbatical leave, exclusive of any extra duty pay. A Teacher approved for sabbatical leave who wishes to be paid while on leave shall furnish a security bond indemnifying the District against loss in the event the Teacher fails to render the minimum amount of job service required after the return from sabbatical leave. If the Teacher does not furnish a security bond, payment of sabbatical leave salary will be made in twenty-four (24) monthly installments added to the salary received by the Teacher during the next two years following the years in which the sabbatical leave is taken. That portion of the group medical insurance premium normally paid by the District shall be continued during the sabbatical leave. That portion of the retirement fund contribution normally paid by the District shall also be continued. The sabbatical leave shall count for an experience increment as if the Teacher were not on a leave of absence. 14.5 The Teacher must agree to return to Lander County School District for a minimum of two years following one-year sabbatical leave. The Teacher must submit a written report which describes and evaluates the sabbatical leave, and give a verbal presentation to the School Trustees within the first 60 days of the new school year of his return. 14.6 A sabbatical leave committee, composed of two Teachers and one administrator, shall be appointed by the District to review applications for sabbatical leave and make recommendations for approval by the School Board. 14.7 A Teacher returning from sabbatical lea...

Sabbatical Leave Program. The sabbatical program provides a means for improving and sustaining the professional competence of faculty to the benefit and enrichment of the educational, research, health care or service programs of the University. A period of paid leave may be granted on the basis of demonstrated service to RBHS and an application describing a program of planned study, formal education, research, writing or equivalent activities. As such, sabbatical leaves are only applicable to career tracks that require scholarship.

  • Sabbatical Leaves A. The purposes of a sabbatical leave are to enable a teacher to pursue an activity that will benefit the school system by enhanced professional competence or to enable a teacher to perform in a critical area of need as well as benefit the teacher personally. Such activities might be study leading to a graduate degree with concentration in the individual's current teaching field and/or certification areas or study leading to a bachelor’s degree for a non-degree vocational teacher; or study leading to a graduate degree with concentration in an area of specialization other than the current teaching field and/or certification areas or travel. B. Upon recommendation of the Superintendent, sabbatical leaves will be granted no more than fifteen (15) applicants per year. Requests for sabbatical leave must be received in writing by the C. After the sabbatical has been completed, the teacher shall present to the Director of Human Resources adequate verification of program completion. G. A teacher on sabbatical leave (either for one-half [½] of a school year or for a full school year) will be paid by the Board at fifty (50) percent of the salary rate which the teacher would have received if the teacher had remained on active duty, provided that such teacher agrees to return to employment in the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ County school system for a period of one (1) year. Should the teacher not return to the service of the Board, the teacher will be required to refund the salary granted for sabbatical leave. H. Upon return from sabbatical leave, a teacher will be placed on the salary schedule at the level the teacher would have achieved had the teacher remained actively employed in the system during the period of absence.

  • Sabbatical Leave Administrators who have been employed in the Okemos Public Schools for seven (7) consecutive years may be granted a sabbatical leave upon request. Application should be made with the Superintendent in February for a leave beginning the following school year. There may be up to two (2) Administrators eligible for sabbatical leave each year. This does not guarantee any particular number of sabbatical leaves. Requests for sabbatical leave will be considered only for a full semester or a full year and shall not exceed two (2) semesters. During said sabbatical leave, Administrators must be in the employ of the Okemos Public Schools and will be paid one-half (1/2) of their salary and full fringe benefits. Administrators must return to service with the Okemos Public Schools immediately upon termination of the sabbatical leave and shall continue service with the Okemos Public Schools for a period of one (1) year, or subject to such conditions as may be mutually agreed upon by the individual and the Board at the time of leave approval. If Administrators do not return to the service of the Okemos Public Schools after termination of their sabbatical leave, they must refund in full all compensation received from the Okemos Public Schools while on leave unless they receive a written waiver to the contrary from the Board. An Administrator returning from sabbatical leave must submit a written statement within forty-five (45) calendar days after the conclusion of the leave to the Board of Education indicating the accomplishments achieved during the leave and showing how these accomplishments related to the betterment of the school district. Providing the leave does not exceed one school year, an Administrator, upon return from sabbatical leave, will be restored to the former position, if available, and if not, to a comparable position or to a position that is mutually agreed upon for which the individual is qualified. In computing service to determine the Administrator's salary at the expiration of leave, time spent on leave will be counted as active service in the Okemos School District.

  • Medical Leave of Absence Where you have a medical leave of absence due to any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than six months, and you have not returned to employment with the Company or an Affiliate, a Separation from Service has occurred on the earlier of: (A) the first day on which you would not be considered “disabled” under any disability policy of the Company or Affiliate under which you are then receiving a benefit; or (B) the first day on which your medical leave of absence period exceeds 29 months.

  • Educational Leave of Absence Leaves of absence may be granted up to six (6) months under the above provisions only if the course would be beneficial to both the University and the employee.

  • Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness Leave a) Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness leaves granted to a permanent teacher, long-term occasional teacher or teacher hired into a term position under this Article shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, as amended. b) The teacher will provide to the employer such evidence as necessary to prove entitlement under the Employment Standards Act. c) A teacher contemplating taking such leave(s) shall notify the employer of the intended date the leave is to begin and the anticipated date of return to active employment. d) Seniority and experience continue to accrue during such leave(s). e) Where a teacher is on such leave(s), the Employer shall continue to pay its share of the benefit premiums, where applicable. To maintain participation and coverage under the Collective Agreement, the teacher must agree to provide for payment for the teacher’s share of the benefit premiums, where applicable. f) In order to receive pay for such leaves, a teacher must access Employment Insurance and the Supplemental Employment Benefit (SEB) in accordance with g) to j), if allowable by legislation. An employee who is eligible for E.I. is not entitled to benefits under a school board’s sick leave and short term disability plan. g) The Employer shall provide for permanent teachers, long-term occasional teachers and teachers hired into a term position who access such Leaves, a SEB plan to top up their E.I.
