Sessional Appointment. 27.3.1 A sessional appointment is an appointment of a staff member by the hour and the payment of such staff member on an hourly basis that includes a twenty-five (25) per cent loading to compensate for Award and Agreement based benefits for which a sessional staff member is not eligible. 27.3.2 The definitions for sessional academic classifications, and arrangements relating to marking and assessment performed by a sessional staff member are contained in Schedule 5. 27.3.3 The University is committed to the principle that sessional employment should be complementary to and not a substitute for, the creation of ongoing and fixed-term positions. It is acknowledged however, the important role that sessional academics have in relation to the University’s mission. 27.3.4 The University will use its best endeavours to not increase, during the life of this Agreement, the proportion of academic staff employed on a sessional basis. 27.3.5 The University shall provide all sessional academic staff with adequate and appropriate access to essential resources including, but not limited to, shared workstations with a telephone, computer and internet access, and reasonable access to facilities and storage space, to support the requirements of the position including student consultation. 27.3.6 Sessional academic staff will be provided with reasonable access to appropriate professional development opportunities as agreed by the Head of School/Discipline, and will be paid an appropriate rate for attendance at approved activities. 27.3.7 Sessional academic staff, or representatives, may be invited to attend relevant school/department meetings as required by the Head of School/Discipline, and will be paid an appropriate rate for attendance at approved meetings. 27.3.8 A sessional academic staff member’s projected workload will be made clear to them before they are appointed and confirmed in writing normally prior to the commencement of teaching. 27.3.9 Payment for work performed by sessionals will be paid in the next available pay period, within twenty-two (22) days of a formal claim application being submitted to the pay office.

Such an appointment is to any level of workload (as defined in Article 10) up to 100% for a specified period of time of less than one year. 5.2.5.2 If, at the expiration of a member’s Sessional appointment substantially the same sessional work, as determined by the department, the member has performed previously is available in the subsequent academic year, the Sessional member shall be given the right of first refusal for this work, provided the member is qualified and the member’s performance is satisfactory as per Article 7. 5.2.5.2.1 If two or more Sessional members each have a right of first refusal for the same available sessional work as referenced in Article 5.2.5.2, then the Appointments Committee shall choose the better candidate. 5.2.5.2.2 When a member who has obtained right of first refusal according to Article 5.
Sessional Appointment. (i) A sessional appointment as a college professor or laboratory instructor is a recurring appointment for a period of at least 36 continuous weeks each college year in which the assigned workload can range from part-time to full-time in a manner consistent with the provisions of Article 14. (ii) A sessional appointment in a non-instructional classification is a recurring appointment for a period of at least 26 weeks each college year of at least 2 - 13 consecutive week periods in which the assigned workload can range from part-time to full-time in a manner consistent with the provisions of Article 14. (iii) The initial two years of the sessional appointment shall be a probationary period. (iv) The probationary period shall be extended by the length of time spent on leave unrelated to his or her OUC duties in excess of one month during a teaching period for a college professor, or laboratory instructor, or in excess of one month for any period for other classifications. (v) OUC shall notify employees normally at least three months, but not less than two months, prior to the expiration of their probationary period indicating that either the probationary period has been successfully completed, or that the probationary period has not been successfully completed and the appointment shall be terminated. In the latter case the reason for termination shall be stated in the written notice. An employee who does not receive such notice within the period specified shall be deemed to have successfully completed the probationary period. (vi) Notwithstanding subsection 11.01(2)(v) and with the exception of clause 22.04, if OUC finds an employee unsuitable for employment prior to the expiration of the probationary period, OUC may terminate the appointment with at least one month's written notice. This notice shall state the reason for the termination. (vii) If an employee on a full-time sessional appointment is subsequently offered a continuing appointment, service in the sessional appointment shall count as credit to a maximum of one year toward the probationary period of a continuing appointment provided that at least one evaluation has taken place during the sessional appointment and the sessional appointment was full-time for the preceding college year.

  • Initial Appointment Upon entering the classified service, an Employee shall receive compensation at the minimum of the salary range of the classified position for which hired. When economic conditions, unusual employment conditions or exceptional qualifications of a candidate for employment indicate that a higher rate would be in the City's best interest, the Department Head with the approval of the Human Resources Manager may authorize hiring at a rate above the minimum for the classified position for which the Employee is being hired, but in all cases, the rate is not to exceed the maximum for the job classification.

  • Initial Appointments The Company appoints the Trustee as the initial Paying Agent, the initial Registrar and the initial Conversion Agent.

  • Medical Appointments Medical appointments may be charged to sick leave, provided the minimum time charged is not less than one-half (1/2) hour. Each absence shall be reported separately and authorized in advance by the employee's immediate supervisor.

  • Continuing Appointment A continuing appointment shall continue until retirement or until otherwise terminated pursuant to this Agreement.

  • SUPPLIER'S APPOINTMENT The Authority hereby appoints the Supplier as a potential provider of the Services and the Supplier shall be eligible to be considered for the award of Orders for such Services by the Authority and Other Contracting Bodies during the Term and in consideration of the Supplier agreeing to enter into this Framework Agreement and to perform its obligations under it the Authority agrees to pay and the Supplier agrees to accept on the signing of this Framework Agreement the sum of one (£1.00) pound sterling (receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by the Supplier).
