Subsurface Exploration. The project area will be further explored by exploratory trenching and borings for stability assessment and material evaluation. Trenches are likely to be excavated using a track-mounted backhoe. The drilling program will consist of several geotechnical borings. The trenches and borings will be utilized for recovery of samples and measurement of subsurface structural information of weak planes or bedding. The Team will provide the surveying services necessary to obtain the data required for locations of the borings and trenches. These surveys will use the current coordinate system existing for the landfill site.
Subsurface Exploration. In general, traffic control during our field investigation will be conducted along the proposed alignment using signs, cones, and an arrow board in accordance with the WATCH manual. Our surface investigation will include drilling exploratory borings. The purpose of the borings will be to: ▪ Obtain subsurface information along the pipe alignment. ▪ Collect undisturbed and bulk samples of the various soil types for laboratory testing. As indicated in the RFP, we plan to drill a total of 6 borings. Based on the existing profile, depth to pipe invert will range from 25.0 to35.0 feet below existing ground surface. We plan drill the borings between 25.0 and 50.0 feet below existing ground surface or to refusal, whichever is shallower. The borings will be drilled with a truck mounted rig (CME 75 or equivalent) equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow stem augers for soils sampling. Soils will be continuously logged and classified by the geologist/engineer in the field by visual examination in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. Undisturbed ring samples of the subsurface materials will be obtained at 5-foot intervals, at changes in soil profiles, or where unusual conditions are encountered. The relatively undisturbed ring samples will be obtained using a Modified California Sampler (2.4-inch inside diameter and 3.0-inch outside diameter) lined with thin-walled sample rings. The sampler will be driven into the bottom of the borehole with successive drops of a 140-pound hammer falling 30 inches. The number of successive drops of the driving weight (“blows”) required for each 6 inches of penetration will be shown on the boring log. The soil will be retained in brass rings (2.4 inches in diameter and 1.0 inch in height) and carefully sealed in waterproof plastic containers for shipment to the laboratory. Bulk samples of representative soil types will be collected in plastic bags from various depths and within a 5-foot zone of the pipe elevation. Groundwater levels, where encountered in the borings, will be recorded. The borings will be backfilled with soil/cement cuttings and compacted by pushing down with augers using the drill rig weight. The upper 1-foot will be filled with quick cement and the surface sprayed with black dye. If construction is delayed, the surface may settle over time. We recommend the owner monitor the boring site and backfill any settlement or depression that might occur, or provide fencing around the area of the boring locations...
Subsurface Exploration. The A-E will further explore the project area by exploratory trenching and borings for stability assessment and material evaluation. The A-E anticipates that trenches are to be excavated using a track-mounted backhoe. The drilling program will consist of several geotechnical borings drilled with bucket auger or core-drilling methods. The trenches and borings will be utilized for recovery of samples, the identification of landslides limits and geometries, and measurement of subsurface structural information, including bedding planes, joints, and landslide slip surfaces. In addition to providing field geologic logging services, the A-E will also provide the surveying services necessary to obtain the data required for locations of the borings and trenches. These surveys will use the current coordinate system existing for the landfill site.
Subsurface Exploration. We will explore the subsurface condrtions and evaluate the general engineering characteristics of the materials encountered by six (6) test borings. In order to minimize the number of trips to the site, we have assumed that County personnel can mark the boring locations in the field with white paint and Underground Service Alert (USA) at least two days in advance of the start of exploration. Subsurface Exploration. It is not represented that PLANS show all existing storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water, gas, telephone, and electrical facilities, and other underground structures. Determine location of these installations in way of construction by referring to available records, consulting appropriate municipal departments and utility owners, and by making necessary exploration and excavations.
Subsurface Exploration. It is proposed to explore the site with the aid of a truck-mounted rotary drilling machine. Three hand dug test pits and one boring are planned for the exploration. The boring will be located in the parking lot, adjacent to bus stop. Two of the test pits will be located on the sidewalk of Burbank Boulevard, South of San ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Road. The remaining test pit will be located on the sidewalk along San ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Road, North of Burbank Boulevard. Samples of the earth materials encountered will be collected and conveyed to the laboratory for testing and analysis. During excavation of the geotechnical borings, subsurface conditions will be observed and noted on the boring logs. The earth materials encountered will be visually classified in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. Undisturbed and bulk samples of the earth materials encountered in the borings will be collected at regular depth intervals and conveyed to the laboratory for testing and analysis. Standard Penetration Test (SPT) sampling for use in calculations will be performed at and below the historic high groundwater level. Any suspicious odors or discoloration will be noted. Should representatives of this office suspect that contaminated soils have been encountered, drilling in that particular location will be halted. Consultant will notify the City in writing upon encountering suspected contaminated materials. Any costs associated with suspected contaminated materials such as delays, drums and specialized backfill materials are not included in the fee indicated. Drummed soils may require environmental testing and disposal at a specialized landfill. Testing and disposal of these materials are not the responsibility of the Consultant.

Should conditions encountered below the surface of the ground be at variance to the number of unit requirements as indicated by drawings or specifications, and absent an agreed-upon unit price established prior to the bid by Addendum, or after contract execution by Change Order, the Contract Sum and/or time shall be adjusted as provided in the Contract Documents for changes in the work.
