The Temporary Drivers clause defines the terms under which individuals who are not regular drivers of a vehicle may operate it for a limited period. Typically, this clause outlines the conditions, such as duration and qualifications, that must be met for a temporary driver to be covered under an insurance policy or permitted by a rental agreement. For example, it may specify that only licensed drivers over a certain age can act as temporary drivers, and only with the owner's consent. Temporary Drivers. Temporary drivers are hourly employees who do not have probationary/permanent status. They are sued to substitute for absent probationary/permanent drivers, to drive special and extra trips as needed, and to perform urgent or emergency departmental work when availability is essential to the efficient operation of the department. Temporary drivers become eligible for probationary status when they have been available and performed each driving assignment offered during ninety consecutive working days.
Temporary Drivers. The following are the applicable rates for Temporary Drivers: The company will give preference by seniority, to drivers who wish to work primarily within the sixty (60) kilometer radius of their home terminal. However, the Company retains the right to dispatch drivers in a manner consistent with the best economic interests of the business. Probationary employees and Temporary Employees will be eligible for pay for Statutory Holidays provided they have worked at least five (5) days during the twenty (20) working days immediately preceding the Statutory Holiday; and, have been at work, as scheduled, the day before and the day after the said Statutory Holiday. When a Statutory Holiday is observed during an employee’s annual vacation, payment for the holiday will be made in addition to the employee’s vacation pay. Such Statutory Holidays may be taken consecutively with the annual vacation provided that a request is made one month prior to the employee’s vacation, and that the employee’s Department Manager agrees to it. It is understood that permission will not be unreasonably withheld. Temporary Drivers the dependent contractors shall have the right to hire and pay a Company approved driver for temporary placement on his equipment. This temporary driver must be covered under the Dependant Contractor’s Work Safe coverage. (i) Temporary placement being regarded as vacation or sick relief which will not exceed a four (4) week period in any calendar year, unless agreed to by the Association in cases of prolonged illness, subject to the approval of the Company. The Company and the Association agree that temporary placement shall not accrue seniority with the Company. (ii) The Company shall not compel the dependent contractor to employ temporary drivers. Seniority permitting, only one dependent contractor in each classification may schedule withdrawal of services. (iii) A dependent contractor who hires a temporary driver pursuant to this subsection shall not lose his place on the seniority list.

  • Temporary Layoff The Employer may temporarily layoff an employee for up to ninety (90) days due to an unanticipated loss of funding, revenue shortfall, lack of work, shortage of material or equipment, or other unexpected or unusual reasons. An employee will normally receive seven (7) days notice of a temporary layoff.
