The Temporary Seniority clause establishes a provisional ranking or status for individuals within an organization or group for a limited period. This clause typically applies when an employee or member is assigned higher responsibilities or a leadership role on a temporary basis, such as covering for an absent supervisor or during a special project. Its core function is to clarify the chain of command and decision-making authority during the temporary assignment, ensuring operational continuity and preventing disputes over roles and responsibilities.
Temporary Seniority. Temporary employees' seniority shall mean the total length of accumulated service with the BCGEU as a temporary employee from April 5, 2011 forward. Upon appointment to a regular position, and upon successful completion of the probationary period, the employee shall be credited with their temporary seniority for the purpose of service seniority.
Temporary Seniority. ‌ a) Temporary employees shall accrue seniority for the purpose of applying for posted regular positions and for the purpose of shift assignment. Their temporary service shall be recognized in relation to other employees when applying for posted vacancies and for the purpose of shift assignment. Temporary service shall be recorded on the basis of days worked and the record shall be sent to the Union and posted on all bulletin boards semi-annually on or before May 31st and November 30th of each year. b) This seniority date shall be calculated by counting back from the closing date of the competition for the posted regular position the number of working days equivalent to the employee’s total accumulated days of service. c) Temporary employees who are subsequently appointed in accordance with Article 16 shall be accorded seniority backdated to the date that the employee's continuous service commenced.
Temporary Seniority. Temporary employees shall not establish seniority under this Agreement. Temporary employees who transfer to permanent employment at the end of their temporary term will be credited with their temporary service and are not required to complete the probationary period outlined in Article 3.01 above.
