The 'Use of Personal Leave' clause defines the rules and conditions under which employees may take time off from work for personal reasons, such as illness, family emergencies, or other personal matters. Use of Personal Leave. An employee may use personal leave credits to conduct personal business that cannot be conducted outside of normal working hours and for personal emergencies.
Use of Personal Leave. (a) The State shall not require an employee to give a reason as a condition for approving the use of personal leave credits, provided, however, that prior approval for the requested leave must be obtained, that the resulting absence will not interfere with the proper conduct of governmental functions, and that an employee who has exhausted personal leave credits shall charge approved absences from work necessitated by personal business or religious observance to accumulated vacation or overtime credits.
(b) Personal leave credits may be used in such units of time as the appointing authority may approve, but the appointing authority shall not require that personal leave credits be used in units greater than one-quarter hour. This provision shall not supersede any local arrangements which provide for liquidation in smaller units of time.
Use of Personal Leave. A teacher may take personal leave any time business permits with permission of the immediate supervisor. A teacher may take personal leave for medical reasons, regardless of whether business permits, with permission of the immediate supervisor. The supervisor shall grant personal leave for medical reasons if the supervisor is satisfied that the teacher is absent for medical reason. The taking of personal leave for medical reasons shall be reduced by the amount of wage continuation payments made under the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Act (AS 23.30). The following constitute “medical reasons” and are subject to the conditions noted: Medical disability of teacher is medical reason for taking personal leave. A supervisor may require a doctor’s certificate showing the disability if the absence exceeds three (3) consecutive working days. Medical disability of a member of a teacher’s immediate family is a medical reason for taking personal leave if the disability is such that the attendance of the teacher is required. A supervisor may require a doctor’s certificate showing the disability if the absence exceeds three (3) consecutive working days.
Use of Personal Leave. 1. Leave may be granted for business transactions which cannot be scheduled or conducted during the normal workday, family affairs, observance of religious holidays, professional related reasons, or for emergency reasons necessary for an Unit Member to care for sudden conditions which call for immediate attention.
2. Except in unusual situations, as determined by the Superintendent, leave shall not be granted for the purpose of extending a holiday or during the first or last 15 days of a school year, or to extend a break in the school calendar.
3. Personal leave shall not be taken in less than one-half (1/2) day segments.
Use of Personal Leave. Personal leave hours shall not be charged to any accumulated leave balance and may only be used: During the pay period which includes January 1st through and including the pay period which includes the last pay period of the calendar year that does not include January 1 of the following year in which such hours are credited; and upon mutual agreement of the employee and the employee's Department Head.
Use of Personal Leave. No more than two (2) persons in each of the elementary buildings, no more than three (3) persons in the middle school and the Kleptz Early Learning Center, and no more than four (4) persons in the senior high school may use personal leave on the same day. It is important that the unit member give written notice as early as possible because these days will be "first come, first served".
Use of Personal Leave. The use of personal leave will not extend the retention periods of an officer unless these periods are supported by a medical certificate and/or are of such a nature as to make the seeking of employment during certificated personal leave inappropriate.
Use of Personal Leave. (a) A Full-Time or Part-Time Employee with responsibilities in relation to a class of person set out in clause 27.1(c)(ii), who needs the Employee’s care or support shall be entitled to use, in accordance with this clause 27.1, any current or accrued personal leave entitlement provided for at clause 26 Personal Leave, for absences to provide care or support for such persons when they are ill or injured, or who require care due to an unexpected emergency. Such leave may be taken for part of a single day.
(b) The Employee shall, if required by the Employer, establish either by production of a medical certificate, statutory declaration by the Employee, written statement or other evidence that:
(i) the person concerned is ill or injured and requires care; or
(ii) the nature of the emergency and that such emergency resulted in the person concerned requiring the Employee’s care.
(c) The entitlement to use personal leave in accordance with this clause 27.1 is subject to:
(i) the Employee being responsible for the care or support of the person concerned; and
(ii) the person concerned being:
(A) a member of the Employee’s immediate family as defined in section 12 of the Act; or
(B) a member of the Employee's household.
(d) The Employee shall not be entitled to paid carer’s leave unless he or she notifies the Employer of the need for carer’s leave and the estimated period of absence at the first available opportunity and, where possible, before the first organised activity at the School on the day of absence.
(e) Any carer’s leave taken in accordance with this clause shall be deducted from the personal leave entitlement of the Employee in accordance with clause 26 Personal Leave. A period of ▇▇▇▇▇’s leave shall be paid leave only to extent that the Employee has sufficient unused personal leave available.
Use of Personal Leave. No more than three (3) persons in each school may use personal leave on the same day. Unused personal leave shall not accumulate to the following year.
Use of Personal Leave is amended to include the following in the respective paragraphs:
A. Leave use will be charged hour-for-hour up to the maximum number of hours the employee is scheduled to work on a day that leave is taken.
B. Medical appointments such as physical, dental, vision or hearing exams, except for emergency care, will be made on the employee’s scheduled days off. Medical appointments on an employee’s scheduled workday will require a doctor’s certification that the employee was not fit for duty during the work time missed.
