The 'Visual Display Terminals' clause sets out requirements and standards for the use of computer screens and similar electronic displays in the workplace. Visual Display Terminals. After each hour of continuous operation of a V.D.T., a V.D.T. Operator shall have the opportunity for a change in such duties for a period of ten (10) minutes.

A pregnant employee working on VDTs may be given alternate employment, where possible, with no loss of pay or benefits for the duration of the employee's pregnancy if the employee so requests. 39.02 Pregnant employees shall be allowed to carry out alternate duties within the bargaining unit for the duration of their pregnancy, provided they are capable of performing the work in question and a vacancy exists. Pregnant women with concerns regarding the effects of VDT’s on their unborn children shall be allowed to be absent from work, without pay, and to continue to accrue seniority during the period of their pregnancy- related absence.
39.03 The Company shall provide radiation screens for pregnant employees who request them.
Visual Display Terminals. The employer will pay reasonable costs for an initial eye examination by an optometrist for Union members who spend the majority of their day viewing video display units. The employer will pay reasonable costs for any subsequent necessary examinations by an optometrist or a specialist if vision problems develop which are not covered by any provincial or federal health program. If special eyeglasses are necessary as prescribed by an optometrist or specialist in order for the employee to work on a VDU, the employee may apply to the Human Resources Department for reimbursement for the cost or a portion of the cost of such glasses. Such a request must be made in advance of ordering the glasses. Notwithstanding Article 32.7.1, it is the responsibility of the employee to ensure he/she initiates and adheres to the following provisions if the initial eye exam reveals problems related to the VDU. If the employee does not fulfill this responsibility, the payment provisions for subsequent eye exams and/or special eyeglasses may be adversely affected. Employees who work steadily at a VDU will be ensured a fifteen (15)-minute break every morning and every afternoon. Every effort will be made to provide these breaks in such a manner that employees will not work steadily at the unit for a period of more than two (2) hours. In addition, when employees are required to use the screen continuously, the employer will provide non-VDU duties for ten (10)-minute periods after every fifty (50) minutes of VDU usage when it is practical. A pregnant employee who works with a VDU for more than fifty (50%) percent of the workday who requests it will have the following options:
1) to be temporarily assigned other duties if this is possible without disruption to the department;
2) to commence her maternity leave after presenting a medical certificate attesting to her pregnancy and to maintain the right for up to six (6) weeks after the date of delivery to return to her former position and salary subject to any general increases; or
3) to relinquish her position and elect to exercise any rights provided her under the Layoff and Recall provisions of Article 17.

Visual Display Terminals. Safety regulations for operators will be developed by the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, for mutual acceptance by the Employer and the Union. The Employer agrees that such regulations will contain the following provisions for employees who normally spend the majority of their daily shift as operators:
20.7.1 The Employer will pay reasonable costs for an initial eye examination by an ophthalmologist, and subsequent examinations if problems develop, which are not covered by the Saskatchewan Medical Care Insurance Commission. If special eyeglasses are required by an employee to work on a visual display terminal, they may apply to the Employer for reimbursement for the cost of such glasses. Such a request must be made in advance of ordering the glasses.
20.7.2 Employees who work steadily at visual display terminals will be ensured a twenty
