Acting Sergeant. Patrolmen on each shift may be assigned by their immediate and/or unit supervisor to temporarily perform the duties of a Sergeant, at the per diem pay of a Sergeant. Such temporary vacancies will be filled by individuals on the same station and shift, or same unit and shift, according to their relative position on the Sergeant's eligibility list. If an officer on the same shift and station, or same unit and shift is on the Sergeants’ promotion eligibility list then that officer shall fill the temporary vacancy. If there is no one available on the same shift and station, or same unit and shift, who is listed on the Sergeant's eligibility list, then the Department’s seniority list shall be used starting from the most senior to the least senior officer. If no one accepts the temporary assignment from the Department’s list, then the least senior patrol officer on that shift, station, or unit and shift shall fill the temporary vacancy. Probationary officers are not eligible for acting Sergeant Assignment.
Acting Sergeant. The Chief and/or the Chief’s designee shall be responsible for selecting one or more officers to fill the role of Acting Sergeant if no Sergeant is on duty. An Acting Sergeant may be appointed when the Sergeant being replaced is or will be absent from his or her assigned shift for 36 or more consecutive hours, or as operationally necessary to meet the mission of the department, and the officer assigned ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ the actual duties of a Sergeant. Officers who temporarily assume the duties of an Acting Sergeant position will be compensated per Article 19.2 of this Agreement. If more than one (1) officer is appointed to serve as an Acting Sergeant, each officer will be compensated only for the actual time worked as the Acting Sergeant, provided each officer has worked at least twelve (12) consecutive non-overtime hours in the Acting Sergeant role. Officers serving as an Acting Sergeant will not be compensated for out-of-class pay for any of the following: (1) time not worked while on any paid or unpaid leave status; (b) time worked in overtime with the exception of a bona fide shift extension or call-out or working a recognized holiday occurring during the period of an officer’s Acting Sergeant appointment. Officers have the option of declining an assignment of Acting Sergeant.
Acting Sergeant. An employee in the position of Acting Sergeant, for a period longer than seven (7) consecutive working days will be paid at the top Sergeant rate for hours worked in that position after the seven (7) consecutive working day period is reached.
Acting Sergeant. Members serving as Acting Sergeants shall receive an additional five percent (5%) of their hourly base pay as a premium for all time spent in this capacity.

Acting Sergeant. The Employer agrees that the police officer with the most seniority shall be appointed Acting Patrol Sergeant at the rate assigned to the individual being replaced. No person will be assigned to Acting Patrol Sergeant when there is a Sergeant or Lieutenant on duty. Such Acting Patrol Sergeant shall have passed the most recent Civil Service examination for Sergeant. In the event there is not an available police officer eligible for Acting Patrol Sergeant, the Chief of Police, or designee, shall have the discretion to appoint a qualified police officer. The Employer shall make a reasonable effort to contact a sergeant or lieutenant prior to appointing a police officer.
Acting Sergeant. Except as set forth in Section 4 below, whenever a police officer is required to serve as a Sergeant, for a minimum of one (1) hour, he or she shall be compensated at an hourly rate that is 5% higher than the officer’s regular rate of pay for each hour so worked
Acting Sergeant. Any officer who is assigned to act as Acting Sergeant shall be paid a ten percent (10%) wage premium on their base pay. Officers assigned to Acting Sergeant must meet the qualification and eligibility standards below. To be eligible to be considered an Acting Sergeant, an officer must: • Have been employed a minimum of three (3) years as a law enforcement officer; and, • Be off probation with the Police Department (this requirement can be waived at the City’s discretion). To be qualified to be assigned as an Acting Sergeant, an eligible officer must:
1. Be recommended for the assignment by two (2) Patrol Sergeants;
2. Complete the training within the time frame allowed by the program manager; and,
3. Positions will be held for one (1) year from the date of commission. Officers wishing to participate for each additional year must receive a satisfactory review of their Acting Sergeant performance from the patrol supervisors.
Acting Sergeant. Patrol Corporals when filling a vacant Sergeant position for four (4) hours or more shall receive an additional three (3%) percent of Corporal base pay for that shift. When assigned, employees will be paid the following monthly pay in addition to their normal compensation based on the top step of the officers pay: Hostage Negotiator 3% S.W.A.T Team 3% K-9 Handlers 3% Field Training Officers 3% Motorcycle Officer 3% Tactical Team 3% Bomb Squad 6% Major Crime Detective 2% Dignitary Protection 2% Special Events Supervisor and Coordinator 3% Assistant Range Master 3% (if a rank below Sergeant is assigned) An additional $30.00 per month will be paid if an officer is assigned to a second specialty; provided however that an additional 3% will be paid to an FTO if the FTO is assigned to a second specialty. The Chief of Police must approve any multiple specialty assignment. Any overtime required to complete the duties associated with being a FTO will be pre-authorized by the Sergeant in charge of the FTO and paid in accord with contract provisions.
Acting Sergeant. When a member of the bargaining unit is absent from work for ten or more weeks due to a long-term illness or for another purpose, the Chief of Police may promote a member of the Patrol Officers’ Unit to the position of Acting Sergeant for the purpose of filling the position as described below.
1. To the extent that an eligibility list exists, the Police Chief will appoint a temporary Sergeant from that list. If necessary, the Chief will appoint a temporary Detective to fill the position created by the appointment of a Detective to temporary Sergeant.
2. If a promotional eligibility list does not exist, the Chief will immediately take steps to commence the promotional process, leading to an eligibility list.
3. The temporary appointees will hold their positions until the Sergeant returns to work.
4. If the Sergeant returns to work within one year and then goes out on leave again, the Chief will re-appoint the temporary Sergeant (and Detective if necessary) who held the temporary position before the Sergeant returned to work. If the individual(s) who held the temporary position(s) is no longer able or willing to fill it, then the Chief will appoint the temporary Sergeant (and Detective as necessary) again, utilizing the eligibility list currently then in effect, if one exists. If such a list does not exist, the Chief shall take the steps referred to in Paragraph 2 above.
5. If a permanent Sergeant or Detective vacancy occurs, the temporary appointee will have the right of first refusal for the position, provided they are not subject to any serious departmental disciplinary procedures.
6. If the Sergeant returns to work, the temporary appointees will be returned to their former positions and shifts, but not necessarily in the same slot.
7. Temporary appointment of Sergeant is subject to Article 5, Section 1, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Commanding Officers. All time spent in the Sergeant’s position shall be applied and credited to the probationary period for any present or future appointment to Sergeant.
8. Applicable rates of pay, hours of work, and overtime definitions shall be observed in accordance with the duties performed.
