Faculty Development. Faculty who develop and/or teach Distance Education courses shall be provided with reasonable technical support and opportunities for Faculty development, consistent with the needs of the Faculty and availability of Board resources and services for that purpose. In the event that a Faculty member develops and/or teaches a Distance Education course for the first time, the Faculty member shall receive reasonable and appropriate professional development and technical support assistance, consistent with the needs of the Faculty and availability of Board resources and services for that purpose. In instances of succeeding assignments to teach Distance Education courses, the Faculty member is expected to demonstrate a level of technical competence sufficient to teach the course. Ongoing technical support assistance may be available to Faculty who teach succeeding offerings of the same course.
Faculty Development. Section 1. The purpose of the Faculty Development Committee is to provide a peer review process for the allocation of funds for scholarly and creative faculty activities. Scholarly and creative activities are assigned duties/responsibilities of faculty members and are used as measures of faculty member’s performance for awarding promotion and tenure (see Articles 7 and 8).
Section 2. The Committee shall consist of faculty representatives from all divisions. Divisions that have twenty members are entitled to two (2) representatives. Ex-officio members of the Committee will include the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and the Vice President for University Advancement or their designees.
Section 3. Each Division will elect at their first Fall Quarter divisional meeting a representative or representatives. Members of the Committee will serve three (3) year terms. One third of the Committee will be elected each year.
Section 4. The Faculty Development Committee Chair will be elected by the Committee from those members who are serving the second of a three-year term. Ex-officio members are not eligible for the position of Committee Chair.
Section 5. The responsibilities of the Committee include:
A. The allocation of resources for:
1. Scholarly and creative activities including:
a. Travel for participation in professional meetings
b. Research/Professional enhancement experiences including equipment (Including related/justified travel.)
c. Project grants
2. Teaching release time for research and/or scholarly activities as outlined in Article 7.
B. Identification and consolidation of any additional funding sources.
Section 6. Funding Level
A. There shall be two separate funds for Faculty Development:
B. The University shall devote a total of $300,000 funding for the 2009-2011 biennium for Type I faculty development. (In addition for the 2009-2011 biennium only, $50,000 of carryover funds from prior biennia is available plus an additional $8,500).
C. Money not allocated in the first academic year of the biennium in which it is budgeted shall rollover to be allocated for award in the second academic year. Money, awarded in the second academic year to faculty, but not spent, shall rollover to the next biennium.
D. Teaching release time will be granted according to Article 7, Section 4, A2b).
Faculty Development. 15.1 It is in the best interests of the University that each member of the faculty develop competence in teaching and scholarship or artistic endeavors to the fullest extent possible given available resources. The procedures set forth in this Article are intended to assist in meeting this end.
15.2 The ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and Vice President for Academic Affairs shall appoint a Teaching Advisory Committee from among members of the faculty who have been judged as Outstanding Teachers by their students and colleagues during the preceding five (5) years, or other faculty with expertise in teaching, who are willing to serve in this capacity.
15.3 A list of those members of the Teaching Advisory Committee willing to advise individuals seeking to improve their teaching effectiveness shall be provided annually by the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and Vice President for Academic Affairs to all department Chairpersons.
Faculty Development. Upon mutual agreement between academic employees and the College, the College will place a high priority on providing individual faculty development opportunities, consistent with fiscal and budgeting limitations.
Faculty Development. The University will provide the following amounts to be used for faculty professional development: On September 15, 2017, the University will allocate $300,000 for FY2018; On September 15, 2018, the University will allocate $300,000 for FY2019; On September 15, 2019, the University will allocate $300,000 for FY2020; The funds will be distributed to the three ▇▇▇▇ based upon the percentage of UNAC members assigned to each. At UAS, travel funds will be designated to the ▇▇▇▇▇▇ Fund. At UAA and UAF, the funds will be designated to the office of the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ for UNAC member travel and each ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ will convene a joint labor management group of two members from each party to review travel requests and rank the requests for funding. Annually, by July 31, the University will provide to United Academics a list of faculty who received such funds, including amounts awarded, in the previous fiscal year. The above professional development funds will be in addition to United Academics buyouts for UNAC members.

a. Participation in professional meetings, workshops, or similar events, with a professional audience and related to research or teaching/librarianship, including related/justified travel.
b. Professional development/enhancement opportunities, including online opportunities, focused on improving the faculty member’s professional expertise in an area directly related to their teaching/librarianship or research, including related/justified travel.
c. Project grants for research/creative activities including equipment and related/justified travel.
2. Teaching reassigned time for research and/or scholarly activities or for preparation of or revision of technologically innovative courses as outlined in Article 7.
B. Identification and consolidation of any additional funding sources.
C. Informing the faculty of availability of resources and the process for applying for them in advance of application deadlines.
Faculty Development. The University encourages professional development for all adjuncts. Bargaining unit members are encouraged to take advantage of a variety of professional development opportunities, such as pedagogical support, technology training, faculty seminars and workshops and peer mentoring, offered at various UA campuses. Bargaining unit members with current professional assignments and with a minimum of two semesters of instructional activity may annually submit a written proposal to their ▇▇▇▇, director or designee requesting partial or full reimbursement of costs to attend professional conferences, meetings, seminars, or workshops directly related to their university job assignment. Expenses incurred by the bargaining unit member and documented by receipts may be reimbursed in part or entirely by the University at the sole discretion of the bargaining unit member’s ▇▇▇▇, Campus Director, or designee. The bargaining unit member must obtain prior written approval consistent with University Policy and Regulations.
Faculty Development. All faculty teaching distance education shall be afforded the opportunity to work with a distance education faculty mentor. Each academic year the District shall select between one (1) and four
Faculty Development. A. Bargaining Unit Members may apply for reimbursement for expenses incurred as part of their ongoing teaching, scholarship, and/or research as defined in this Agreement. This may include, but is not limited to, courses or seminars to enhance teaching qualifications, attendance and/or presentation of papers at professional conferences, acquisition of research materials, and travel related to the conduct of scholarship and/or research.
B. Faculty shall apply for such funding to the appropriate University Faculty Senate Committee.
C. In consultation with the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, the Committee will award funding based on the academic merits of the program and the overall feasibility of the project. Any proposal with academic merit shall be funded in accordance with the availability of funds. Requests for funding shall be granted until funds are depleted. If more funds for projects are requested than there is availability of funds, the committee may rank projects based on overall academic merit and relevance.
D. Application deadlines will be established and announced by the committee. No Bargaining Unit Member may be awarded enrichment funds in two (2) consecutive academic years unless all other applications are funded and the enrichment funds are not exhausted.
E. The annual dollar pool for faculty enrichment shall be $50,000 for each fiscal year of this Agreement.
