The 'Informal Level' clause establishes a preliminary stage for resolving disputes or issues between parties before formal procedures are initiated. Typically, this clause requires the parties to first attempt to resolve disagreements through direct negotiation or informal discussions, often within a specified timeframe. By encouraging early and open communication, the clause aims to resolve conflicts efficiently and amicably, reducing the need for costly and time-consuming formal dispute resolution processes.
Informal Level. Before filing a formal written grievance, the grievant shall attempt to resolve it by an informal conference with his/her immediate supervisor.
Informal Level. 7. Before filing a written grievance, the grievant shall attempt to resolve the grievance by an informal conference with his/her immediate supervisor within ten (10) days of when he/she knew or should have known of the act or omission giving rise to the grievance.
Informal Level. Before initiating a formal written grievance at Level One, the employee shall attempt to resolve the matter by informal conference with their immediate designated supervisor outside the bargaining unit. If the immediate supervisor is not available, the employee shall attempt to contact another supervisor or manager. The employee shall notify the Union, and a representative of the Union shall be given the opportunity to be present at any meeting under this section. Either party may declare that the informal level has been completed.
Informal Level. When a cause for complaint occurs, the affected bargaining unit member(s) shall, within five (5) days, request a meeting with his/her immediate supervisor in an effort to resolve the complaint. The Association may be notified and a representative thereof present with the bargaining unit member at such meeting. If the bargaining unit member is not satisfied with the results of the meeting, he/she may formalize the complaint in writing as provided here under.
Informal Level. Within thirty (30) days after the occurrence of the act or omission giving rise to the grievance, or when the grievant should reasonably have known of the occurrence, the grievant shall attempt to resolve it by an informal conference with the immediate supervisor.
Informal Level. A person who chooses to initiate this procedure shall do so in the following manner:
1) Following the grievant’s awareness of a grievable event or incident; the grievant may discuss the matter informally with his/her immediate supervisor.
2) In the event the matter is not resolved informally, the grievant may file a formal grievance on the form prescribed by the Department of Labor Relations within twenty (20) days following the grievant’s awareness of the incident, which is the basis of the grievance.

Such conference, as well as actual formal filing of a written grievance, in the event the conference does not resolve the problem, must take place within the applicable time limits as outlined in Level I.

FORMAL LEVEL 1: If complaint is not resolved in a conference between the affected teacher(s) and his/her immediate supervisor, the complaint may be formalized as a grievance within 30 days after the informal conference. A formalized grievance shall be submitted, in writing, within five (5) days of the meeting between the supervisor and the affected teacher(s). A copy of the grievance shall be sent to the Association and the immediate supervisor. The immediate supervisor shall, within five (5) days of the receipt of the grievance, render a written decision. A copy of this decision shall be forwarded to the grievant(s) and the Association. FORMAL LEVEL 2: If the Association is not satisfied with the disposition of the grievance at Level 1 or if no disposition has been made within five (5) days of receipt of the grievance, the grievance shall be transmitted to the Superintendent or designee. Within seven (7) days after the grievance has been submitted to the Superintendent, the Superintendent or designee shall meet with the Association on the grievance. The Superintendent or designee, within five (5) days after the meeting shall render his/her written decision thereon with copies to the Association and the grievant. FORMAL LEVEL 3: If grievant is not satisfied with the response at Level Two, he or the Union representative shall within five (5) days of receipt of Level Two response, file a copy of the written grievance, which contains the Level Two decisions, with the Secretary of the Board of Education. Upon proper application as specified in Level Two, the Board shall schedule an opportunity for grievant to present his complaint to the Board at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting. Within ten (10) days from the hearing of the grievance, the Board shall render its decision in writing with copies to the Association and the grievant. The Board may hold further hearings therein or further investigate the grievance.
