Pay Rate Upon Promotion. A current regular employee who is promoted shall be paid at the a step in the new range which represents at least a 5.012% step increase over the rate of pay received immediately prior to the promotion or at the minimum step of the new range, whichever is greater, provided that such increase does not exceed the maximum step of the new range. An advance step placement may be requested by the department. If an advance step is requested, the process outlined in 14.6.6

A current regular employee who is promoted shall be paid at the step in the new range which represents at least a MINIMUM OF 5.12% over the rate of pay received immediately prior to the promotion or at the minimum step of the new range, whichever is greater, provided that such increase does not exceed the maximum step of the new range. If the promotion is a result of a competitive recruitment for a new or vacant position, the employee will receive a step increase six (6) months after the effective date of beginning the new job assignment. Subsequent step increases shall be at twelve (12) month intervals until the top step is achieved.

If the promotion is not a competitive recruitment, the employee will receive a step increase twelve (12) months after the effective date of beginning the new job assignment. In either case, Subsequent step increases (of two (2) step increments) shall be at twelve (12) month intervals until the top step is achieved. Step increases will be in increments of 2 steps if initial hire into County was prior to 7/15/14 or 1 step if initially hired after 7/15/14. Commencing January 1, 2019 step increases after the first step increase after hire will be in two step increments (5.12%) until the top step is achieved.
Pay Rate Upon Promotion. A promotion is a change to a higher compensated classification (i.e from legal advocate or operation support to attorney). If, based upon experience in the prior category, an employee would otherwise receive a decrease in salary, their salary will nonetheless be maintained at that level until their experience corresponds to the step level of the new classification of equal or greater salary, at which time they would be eligible for anniversary increases.
Pay Rate Upon Promotion. For promotional appointments, the employee’s hourly rate for the position into which the employee is promoted will be at least 2.5% greater than the employee’s hourly rate at the formerly held position. If the employee was to receive a step increase within 90 days, that hourly rate will be considered into the hourly rate for the new position. Employing Officials have the authority to offer up to Step 6 of the applicable pay grade. Appointment at Step 7 or above on the pay grade must be approved in writing by the County Administrator.

In any case where an employee is promoted or reclassified to a higher grade and job classification, the starting rate shall be a minimum of 5% over the salary received prior to the promotion in accordance with Pay Plan grades and steps, provided the Department Head/Director approves. A promotion institutes a new probationary period.

Employees promoted to a higher paid classification shall be placed at the appropriate step in the new classification pay scale in accordance with Section 12.11 (Determination of Experience Level), which will provide a minimum increase of five percent (5%), not to exceed the top of the new scale. Pay Rate Upon Promotion. When an employee is promoted from one classification to another within their department of current employment, the employee's actual salary for the position into which the employee is promoted shall be greater than the employee's salary at the formerly held position and/or greater than the salary the employee would have been entitled to had the employee retained the formerly held position for ninety (90) additional days. An increase in pay, which exceeds approximately ten (10) percent, shall require the written approval of the County Administrator; provided, such approval is not required when placement is at step one of the pay range of the new position.

Pay Rate Upon Promotion i. A promotion is defined as a change in classification or classification level to a higher rated position in which the rate of pay of the new classification as set forth in Appendix B exceeds the Employee’s current rate of pay. A promotion must always result in an increase of pay of at least five percent (5%) or to the classification rate of pay set forth in Appendix B, whichever is greater. Incumbent Employees, similarly situated within the job classification, will not be brought up automatically to the promoted Employee’s wage rate based on the five percent (5%) promotion increase.
ii. Pay raises to promoted Employees referenced herein shall be effective on the date the promoted Employee assumes the duties of the new classification.
