TIME OFF FOR UNION BUSINESS AND ACTIVITIES. The Union and the University will co-operate to see that suitable arrangements are made to have an employee’s regular duties covered in a reasonable manner so as to avoid interfering with the operating requirements. When undertaking union duties, union stewards will not interrupt the work of other union employees without the approval of the appropriate administrator. Requests for leaves of absence without loss of seniority for the following activities shall not be unreasonably withheld:
TIME OFF FOR UNION BUSINESS AND ACTIVITIES. Leaves of absence without loss of seniority are to be granted, in all cases subject to the requirements of the College to operate and manage its affairs: a. without pay to representatives of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated when requested in writing by the Union at least five (5) working days in advance of the start date of the leave requested and naming employees for whom the request applies; b. without pay to representatives of the Union to attend to Union business which requires them to leave their premises of employment, when requested in writing by the Union at least five (5) working days in advance of the start date of the leave requested and naming the employees for whom the request applies; c. without pay to employees who are representatives of the Union's bargaining committee when requested in writing by the Union at least five (5) working days in advance of the start date of the leave requested and naming the employees for whom the request applies; d. with pay to named and recognized Stewards to perform duties as may be necessary for the administration of the Agreement, subject to 7.02 above; e. with pay to the President of the Union to consult with management for the purpose of the administration and negotiation of this Agreement. The Union agrees to reimburse the College for all salary and benefit costs beyond twenty- five per cent (25%) per fiscal year of paid release time. (For information purposes, twenty-five per cent (25%) of a full-time regular employee’s workload equals four hundred - fifty-seven (457) hours. In the case of a part- time employee who is Union President, the amount shall be pro-rated). The paid release time is non-cumulative from one (1) fiscal year to the next fiscal year. The Union President agrees to obtain prior supervisory approval for leave, and to submit an Application for Leave for all time taken under this provision. f. without pay, for a period of up to one (1) year, when requested by employees who have been elected to a full-time office or position in the Union. g. where Union meetings interfere with the employee's regular hours of work, and an employee requests time off with pay to attend such Union meetings, the request shall be granted provided such time off does not interfere with normal College operations. Requests for leaves of absence without loss of seniority for the following activities shall not be unreasonably withheld: a) without pay to a reasonable number of representatives of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated when requested in writing by the Union naming the employees for whom the request applies; b) without pay for a reasonable number of representatives of the Union to attend to Union business which requires them to leave their premises of employment when requested in writing by the Union naming the employees for whom the request applies; c) without pay for a reasonable number of employees who are representatives of the Union on a Bargaining Committee to attend meetings of the Bargaining Committee when requested in writing by the Union naming the employees for whom the request applies; d) with pay to three employees who are representatives of the Union on the Bargaining Committee to leave their employment to carry on negotiations with the College, when requested in writing by the Union naming the employees for whom the request applies; e) with pay to named Stewards to perform duties necessary for the adminstration of this Agreement; f) with pay to employees called to appear as a party or as a witness in a grievance hearing or at an arbitration; g) with pay for up to three members of the Union Grievance Committee when such formally meets pursuant to Article 7; h) without pay to an employee to hold a position with the Union or its affiliates. Time spent with the Union will be considered as service with the College and the employee will continue to accrue seniority with the College during such period. At the commencement of the leave, an employee will advise the College whether or not she wishes to participate in the College Benefit Plans. It is understood that participation is subject to approval of the carrier of the Plan. The Union will reimburse the College for the cost of such premiums. If the duration of the leave exceeds 8 months, the College may fill the position and the person so chosen shall be considered as having temporary full-time or temporary part-time status notwithstanding the categorization otherwise applicable under Article 9.

  • Time Off for Union Business ‌ (a) Leave of absence without pay shall be granted upon request for the reasons set out below unless it would unduly interrupt the Employer's operations: (1) to an elected or appointed representative of the Union to attend conventions of the Union and bodies to which the Union is affiliated, to a maximum of 21 days per occurrence; (2) for elected or appointed representatives of the Union to attend to union business which requires them to leave their general work area; (3) for employees who are representatives of the Union on a bargaining committee. (b) Long-term leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees designated by the Union to transact union business for specific periods of not less than 21 days unless this would unduly interrupt the operation of the department. Such requests shall be made in writing sufficiently in advance to minimize disruption of the department. Employees granted such leave of absence shall retain all rights and privileges accumulated prior to obtaining such leave. Seniority shall continue to accumulate during such leave and shall apply to such provisions as annual vacations, increments and promotions. (c) When leave of absence without pay is granted pursuant to Part (a) or (b), the leave shall be given with pay and the Union shall reimburse the Employer for salary and benefit costs, including travel time incurred, within 60 days of receipt of the invoice. It is understood that employees granted leave of absence pursuant to this clause shall receive their current rates of pay while on leave of absence. Leave of absence granted under this clause shall include sufficient travel time. The pay and benefits received by the employee and reimbursed by the Union under this article shall be based on the number of hours to which the Union indicates, in writing, the employee is entitled. This provision does not apply to employees on extended leaves of absence who are employed by the Union on a full-time basis. (d) Leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority will be granted to an employee called to appear as a witness before an arbitration board, provided the dispute involved the Employer. On application, the Arbitration Board may determine summarily the amount of time required for the attendance of any witness. (e) The Union shall provide the Employer with reasonable notice to minimize disruption of the operation and shall make every reasonable effort to give a minimum of 14 days’ notice prior to the commencement of leave under (a) or (b) above. The Employer agrees that any of the above leaves of absence shall not be unreasonably withheld.

  • Time Off for Union Activities The employer agrees to grant the necessary time off, without discrimination or loss of seniority rights and without pay, to any employee designated by the Union to attend a labor convention provided that there is two-week notice of any union convention. Due consideration shall be given to the number of personnel affected in order that there shall be no disruptions of employer's operations due to lack of available employees.

  • Restrictions on Business Activities There is no agreement, commitment, judgment, injunction, order or decree binding upon the Company or to which the Company is a party which has or could reasonably be expected to have the effect of prohibiting or materially impairing any business practice material to the Company, any acquisition of property by the Company or the conduct of business by the Company as currently conducted or as proposed to be conducted.
