Equivalency Credit Clause Samples
The Equivalency Credit clause defines how credits or recognition are granted when a party provides an alternative product, service, or method that meets the contract's requirements in place of the originally specified item. In practice, this clause allows for substitutions as long as the alternative is deemed equivalent in quality, function, or value, and outlines the process for evaluating and approving such substitutions. Its core function is to provide flexibility in contract performance while ensuring that the intended standards and outcomes are maintained, thereby accommodating practical constraints or innovations without compromising contractual obligations.
Equivalency Credit. 1. The equivalency credit program is used to facilitate horizontal movement on the salary schedule of the College. An equivalency credit may be earned in place of college credit. Equivalency credit is based on education and/or training which directly enhances the employee's ability to improve in his/her profession.
2. The same activity cannot be used for both college credit and equivalency credit.
3. In general, 25 clock hours will be equivalent to 1 equivalency credit (EC). For purposes of horizontal movement on the salary schedule, 1 equivalency credit is equal to 1 credit hour.
4. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are generally based on 10 clock hours equaling 1 CEU; therefore, 2.5 CEUs are required to obtain 1 equivalency credit (EC).
5. Only half of the credit hours required for horizontal movement may be equivalency credit.
6. To obtain equivalency credit:
a. The activity must be appropriate to the discipline/job;
b. The activity must be conducted on personal time;
c. The activity or person is not being paid a salary or stipend by another entity, i.e. grant;
d. The employee must make application to their supervisor for pre-approval;
e. The employee must complete a report and self-assess the activity regarding the value of the experience to one's job;
f. The documentation for final approval for movement on the salary schedule for the next academic year must be presented to supervisor by July 1;
g. The final approval for equivalency credit will be determined by the supervisor by July 31;
h. All documentation must be submitted to the Human Resources office by September 3.
7. The following activities may qualify for EC; time and effort must be included in the reporting documentation. Equivalency credit points identified are the maximum points allowed per activity.
a. Professional reading - maximum of 1 ▇▇
▇. Teaching faculty: Complete a substantive report on how the material will influence instruction;
ii. Non-teaching faculty and staff: Complete a substantive report on how the reading will influence job performance.
b. Attendance at conferences or workshops - clock hour equivalence
i. Conferences/workshops must include experiential learning as opposed to passive learning;
ii. Registration is paid for by the employee;
iii. If attendance is on a scheduled contract/work day, employee must apply personal or vacation leave;
c. Presenting at a conference - clock hour equivalence
i. Preparation for presentation may also qualify for clock hour equivalence;

Equivalency Credit. 1. Unit members may request hours of credit toward salary schedule change for experiences that fall outside graduate level courses offered for credit. Such requests shall be directly related to the unit member’s current assignment and approved in advance by the Equivalency Credit Committee. Activities which may qualify are: adult education, Spanish language, technology courses applicable to the unit member’s assignment, workshops, generally recognized courses such as OMSI, ESD or clinics, or special work or travel experiences.
2. Nurses will receive credit for all approved nurse continuing education seat hours earned both prior to employment and during employment, as long as it is post license. Hours for initial placement will be limited to the equivalent of one column. Hours earned during the work day, when nurses are still on duty and on-call, will be counted. Application for these credits will be made by using the District developed form. Equivalency credit for these referenced hours will be on the basis of eight (8) hours of actual participation for one (1) graduate term hour for purposes of salary advancement.
3. The Equivalency Credit Committee may also approve other study or special training experiences. The procedure for receiving approval on requests will be set forth on the established District form and shall be subject to special criteria developed by the Equivalency Credit Committee. However, in emergencies the responsible administrator may approve requests on the basis of established criteria.
4. Normally, equivalency credit will be awarded on the basis of ten (10) cumulative hours of actual contract/participation credit for one (1) graduate term hour of college credit.
A. SICK LEAVE
Equivalency Credit. Equivalency credit up to five (5) credits of fifteen (15) credits will be given to all teachers who satisfactorily complete approved workshops (such as M.S.S.C., Mathematics Institute, N.J.E.A. or Bergen County Education Association). In order to receive such credit, the teacher must obtain the Superintendent's written approval for the program before he begins the workshop. The term "credit" as used herein, shall mean one full semester credit.
Equivalency Credit. Travel, work experience, workshops, conferences, conventions, and seminars for which equivalency credit is requested must be pre-approved by the Professional Growth Committee. A maximum of eight (8) hours of equivalency credit can be applied beyond Scale III.
