Standby Drivers. A “standby driver” is a bus driver who is regularly employed by the District but who is not regularly assigned to a route package.
Standby Drivers. The Contractor shall provide a sufficient number of regular qualified standby driver(s), appropriately trained in the transportation of special education pupils, in order to ensure uninterrupted service in the event of mechanical breakdown or driver absence. This number of standby driver(s) is not to include those drivers needed to cover for drivers on long term leave (over two weeks). No relief, standby, or newly assigned regular driver shall be dispatched on a route under this Contract without being fully trained in the use of any and all equipment needed to safely transport the students on the route (e.g., fully trained on operation of the lift on the lift gate vehicles, and proper methods of securing wheelchairs or other specialized equipment within the vehicle), and receiving a full orientation by the Contractor, as to the type of students (e.g., handicapped conditions of students on routes and specific procedures to be followed when transporting students with physical, mental, and/or emotional disabilities), conditions to be expected on route, special problems, and a review of the route sheet.
Standby Drivers. 1. Standby positions will be posted and any driver with at least one (1) year or equivalent experience acceptable to the Transportation supervisor may apply. The most senior driver who applies and meets the criteria listed below will be offered the standby position. Any driver more senior than the chosen driver may request an explanation as to which of the criteria the senior driver failed to meet. A new standby driver must serve a probationary period of sixty (60) school days as a standby driver. During that probationary period, either the driver or the District may elect to return the driver to their driving assignment in their previous area with at least the same hourly bar chart time as the driver held prior to accepting the standby job. Temporary standby positions can be established for up to forty five (45) days, after which the standby positions will be posted and filled according to the criteria listed below. 2. Those selected for standby positions must meet the following criteria: a. Good attendance and punctuality history. b. Demonstrate a willingness and ability to drive all District buses. c. Demonstrate a willingness and ability to operate and/or secure all Specialized Transportation equipment, including student mobility and support materials. d. Demonstrate the ability to describe a path of travel the bus would use between two designated locations. e. Demonstrate the ability to drive a bus following written run directions over a designated course within prescribed timelines. 3. All drivers will be given the opportunity to remain qualified for a bus driver certificate which allows them to drive the maximum weight bus that the District has in its fleet.

Standby Drivers. A driver who is at home and called into work will be paid a minimum of two (2) hours at the special work rate if no work is available. If a driver is assigned a run while on standby and before the expiration of the two (2) hour minimum period, the driver shall be paid for the run in addition to the actual time the driver was on standby prior to commencing the run. It is understood that a call in pertains to a single AM or PM route.

  • Bus Drivers The provisions of this Article apply to school term bus drivers except as hereinafter modified. Bus Drivers are guaranteed a base of one thousand and ninety (1090) hours per school year. Guarantee consists of 1090 hours divided by possible working days in a school year times actual number of days worked. This excludes Saturday and Sunday and General Holiday trips. (a) Regular shift is defined as the conveyance of passengers to school in the morning and home in the afternoon. (b) Extra shift is defined as the conveyance of passengers for extra-curricular activities. (c) Shifts shall be paid at a minimum of two (2) hours and drivers' time will be uninterrupted if less than one-half (½) hour remains between shifts. (i) Drivers are entitled to one 15 minute rest period after two (2) hours of work and a second rest period after six (6) hours of work. Paid waiting times of 15 minutes or more will be construed as a paid rest period regardless of the length of time spent waiting. (d) All work after nineteen hundred (1900) hours on those days on which the regular shift has been worked shall be deemed to be overtime. After twelve (12) hours from the start of the regular shift, work will be deemed as overtime. (e) Hours of work consisting of regular and extra shifts and overtime are shared as equally as possible amongst drivers. Each driver has the opportunity to choose a percentage of the work available beyond one’s guaranteed hours, although the decision of the Employer will prevail. If no drivers are available, other transportation department staff may share the work. (f) Where School District transportation is used for extra-curricular trips on Saturdays and Sundays, the following applies instead of the overtime rates in Article 10.2: (i) Time and one-half (1 ½) regular rate for driving to and from destination. (ii) Upon arrival at destination, waiting time shall be paid at the regular rate of pay. (iii) No shift will be paid less than four (4) hours. (iv) Trips that are cancelled where the driver positions into departure point/school shall be paid at two (2) hours at one and one half (1 ½) times the regular rate. (v) All work carried out in this sub paragraph 9.5(f) shall be on a volunteer basis and shared as equally as possible. All Transportation employees may participate and shall be paid at the Bus Driver rate of pay. (vi) An exception to 9.5 (f) (i) to (iv) above will apply to bus driving on ski trips. Bus drivers who drive on ski trips shall share those hours only with other registered ski trip drivers. (g) Work carried out on General Holidays shall be paid in accordance with the current contract rates. (h) At the end of each school year a review of school bus drivers’ hours of work will be made to ensure minimum guarantee is met. Any shortages will be paid out.
