Scheduling of Annual Leave. (A) Approval
Scheduling of Annual Leave. The annual leave period for scheduling purposes shall be from January 1 to December 31. The Employer will make every reasonable effort to assign annual leave in accordance with the employee's preference.
13.3.1 Annual leave preference shall be given to employees on the basis of seniority. Where an employee elects to break their annual leave entitlement into more than one time period, or is required to do so as a result of the House sitting, all employees shall be afforded their right of preference for their first time period, before seniority preference is given to their second or subsequent time periods.
13.3.2 Identified functional or operating groups of employees may be considered separately in establishing the annual leave preference. The identification of such groups shall be mutually resolved through the Joint Committee process.
13.3.3 On or before April 1 of each year, the Employer shall post or issue an annual leave planner in each department covering the period from June 21 to September 21. Employees shall submit their requests for annual leave on the annual leave planner by May 1. Approved annual leave schedules shall be posted by the Employer on or before May 22 each year and the dates shall not be changed after such posting without consultation with and the agreement of the employee(s) concerned. Immediately following this posting and no later than May 31, an employee who has been denied preference for their requested time period(s), may make written application for another time period, which shall be granted on the basis of seniority. Such secondary annual leave schedule shall be posted no later than June 15 after which the dates will not change without an agreement of the employee(s) concerned.
13.3.4 In the event an employee fails to make written application as required above, the employee will not be entitled to have preference over less senior employees who have applied.
13.3.5 Every effort will be made to schedule annual leave to begin and end with scheduled days off whenever a full week(s) annual leave is involved.
13.3.6 During any annual leave period, upon application by the employee and at the discretion of the Employer, earned but unused annual leave credits shall be compensated at the employee's daily rate of pay as calculated from their classification on December 31.

Scheduling of Annual Leave. Employees are encouraged to schedule annual leave as far in advance as possible. An employee who has requested annual leave shall receive a written response from his/her immediate supervisor within five (5) working days from the date of the request. Paid vacation leave may not be used in advance of its accrual. All annual leave shall be scheduled in minimum increments of one- quarter (¼) hour.

The pertinent policy is adopted herein by reference with the understanding that development and modification of the Policy is subject to a requirement to ‘meet and confer’.

B. Bidding for Annual Leave will be done by proxy every three (3) months, in conjunction with the quarterly bid sign-up, on the same day that an Operator bids for their work assignment. Each Operator will deposit their Annual Leave proxy with a bidding representative prior to 5:00pm on the Operator’s appointed day. Posting of Annual Leave during bidding shall be in order of seniority, beginning with the most senior Operator. Operators’ choices will be posted to the Annual Leave Calendar at the beginning of the day following the day they are received. An updated Annual Leave Calendar will be made available at each Operations Base as soon as possible following the posting of the previous day’s selections. Scheduling of Annual Leave. 13.2.1 The Employer shall post the annual leave entitlement for each employee by February 1st each year.
13.2.2 Employees, other than principal anchor people, may take annual leave at any time throughout the year on the basis of seniority of service, subject to operational requirements. Such annual leave shall not be unreasonably denied. Principal anchor people shall be allowed a maximum of three (3) days annual leave during principal ratings periods. The principal ratings periods shall consist of two (2) periods per calendar year not to exceed thirteen (13) weeks in total per calendar year without prior approval of the Guild. Requests for annual leave of five (5) days or more shall be submitted at least three (3) weeks in advance, except as follows: Requests to take annual leave during the June 1 - September 30 summer vacation period must be submitted by April 15th. The Employer shall post the summer annual leave schedule by May 1st. During the summer vacation period, no blocks of annual leave over four (4) weeks will be taken, unless approved by the News Director or by the Executive Producer - News or their designate.
