Assignment of Classes. Except for Dance (Choreography) courses and Site and Clinical Placement courses, for each Academic Year the University shall offer available classes to qualified Adjunct Faculty members in the following order:
i. In order of those who have taught the course previously, starting with the most senior incumbent (most Dominican Points) in the hiring pool for that course (and its class sections) up to the Minimum Anticipated Course Load. Any incumbency tie-breaker shall be the earlier hire date. An incumbent is an Adjunct Faculty member who has taught that course or a substantially similar course at the University at least once within the last three (3) Academic Years and who has taught that course at least twice during her/his employment at the University. It is the intent of the parties to maintain incumbency where possible. Incumbency is created when an Adjunct Faculty member has taught a specific CORE Big History course twice. Incumbency in a Service Learning course is a distinct incumbency for that particular course.
ii. The remaining unassigned classes (new and non-incumbent classes) shall be offered to qualified Adjunct Faculty members in the hiring pool for that course (and sections) to fulfill Minimum Anticipated Course Unit Load in seniority order, and then each qualified Adjunct Faculty shall be offered one course (or DocuSign Envelope ID: 20B0C477-AC9E-4254-865F-EAFAF08C4D22 section) in excess of Minimum Anticipated Course Unit Load in rotational seniority order, until all qualified Adjunct Faculty have reached twelve units for a semester or all available courses and sections have been assigned (whichever comes first). If, after completing steps i-ii above, some class sections are still unassigned, the University may offer those sections to qualified Adjunct Faculty not in the hiring pool for them or may hire additional Adjunct Faculty; however, no Adjunct Faculty member may exceed 12 units per semester An Adjunct Faculty member who receives notification of a class assignment shall notify the University in writing of her/his acceptance as soon as possible, and within one (1) week of the date sent by the University. An Adjunct Faculty member may choose to select fewer than the minimum number of units to be offered him/her under his/her Appointment Letter. The following courses shall be assigned outside this process and consistent with the needs of the University: • Dance courses that need unique and non-recurring choreographers; and • Site and clinic...
Assignment of Classes. The Department Chair retains the discretion to assign courses in a way that best maximizes the use of faculty expertise and balances the needs of the department. The faculty member’s proven teaching ability, recent evaluations, and number of years of teaching experience at the College are factors in considering assignments to courses available. Full time faculty will be given preference on all course assignments. The evaluation of the professional activities of all employees in a public institution of higher education is essential to the maintenance of academic and professional standards of excellence. The purpose of professional evaluations for part time faculty shall be to recognize and encourage outstanding teaching performance. Through the evaluation process, faculty are able to identify areas of excellent performance and areas for improvement, and supervisors and peers are able to provide useful feedback for consideration. Evaluation of part-time faculty is also an element of the process through which part-time faculty earn Reemployment Preference (see Article 9.05). Part-time faculty seeking promotion shall be evaluated based on total professional performance, according to criteria to be developed by the Part-time Faculty Criteria and Placement Committee, as defined in Appendix K. Teaching Evaluation Process The primary components of the teaching evaluation process are the: Classroom Observations and Student Surveys of Teaching to supply first-hand information about the faculty members’ teaching practice. Procedural Responsibilities which include Syllabus Review, and Administrative Feedback on submission of grades and use of DCC email to communicate with the College and students. Evaluation of part-time faculty members shall be uniformly applied and have primary emphasis on teaching effectiveness. Attention shall be paid by supervisors or other evaluators to the various demands and requirements for teaching students at different levels and in different disciplines.

Assignment of Classes. Normally, the assignment of a course to an adjunct lecturer will be on the basis of the number of consecutive semesters the adjunct has taught this course. Evaluations of adjunct lecturers will be considered. Full time faculty will be given preference on all course assignments.
Assignment of Classes. 5.6.8.1 The following steps will be utilized each semester (Fall/Spring) to determine a faculty member’s teaching assignment.
5.6.8.2 Unit Members will be provided classes to fulfill their required load. The assignment of classes may include any combination of online (asynchronous, synchronous, or hybrid; remote or otherwise) classes provided the Unit Member has a portion of their assignment on campus.
5.6.8.3 Unit Members will be offered remaining classes for overload. A Unit Member’s overload assignment will not exceed 10 LHE in a semester without prior approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
5.6.8.4 Unit Members from other departments meeting minimum qualifications will receive consideration prior to adjunct faculty members.
5.6.8.5 Adjunct faculty will be offered remaining classes.
5.6.8.6 Classes that become available subsequent to assignment shall be offered first to Unit Members and then to adjunct faculty.
5.6.8.7 In all cases where a Unit Member’s assignment is identified for a potential change, the ▇▇▇▇/Director will meet with the Unit Member to discuss options that preserve a student-centered approach to course offerings and scheduling.
5.6.8.8 In cases where the ▇▇▇▇/Director determines a class must be cancelled, the affected Unit Member and the ▇▇▇▇/Director will develop an alternative assignment, such as, but not limited to, load balancing and/or assignment of short-term classes to minimize the impact on assigned LHE.

Assignment of Classes. 9.12.1 Each teacher in the East Providence School System will be provided a class list on the opening day of school (for each class in the secondary schools) and will be notified, in writing, of any change made in the students’ schedule thereafter.
9.12.2 The Committee agrees to encourage principals to make as equitable distribution as possible of class assignments according to ability.
9.12.3 At the secondary level, each teacher will receive a copy of his/her tentative subject preparations for the next school year by July 15th. Each teacher will receive a copy of his/her teaching schedule by August 15th. Included in the schedule will be the specific courses and levels, unless an unforeseen event occurs which makes this impossible. Additionally, teachers should be informed of the member(s) of their potential teaching team.
9.12.4 Before class assignments are made for pupils in the elementary schools for the next school year, teachers should be included in the decision-making process.
9.12.5 Special Subject Teachers (formerly called Itinerants) shall not be required to teach in more than two (2) different buildings per day. Secondary teachers shall not be required to teach in more than three (3) different classrooms per day.

Evaluations of part-time faculty member will be considered. Full time faculty will be given preference on all course assignments.

The Teaching Educator’s proven teaching ability, recent evaluations, and number of years teaching experience at the College are factors in considering assignments to courses available. Full time Teaching Educator will be given preference on all course assignments. Classes assigned to Part-Time Educators are paid the full cost for the course, with no formula applied without negotiation of such with DUE.
