Employee Breaks Clause Samples
Employee Breaks. The normal workday is eight and one-half (8 ½) hours and includes an unpaid duty free thirty (30) minute lunch. Employees working a normal full-time workday shall have a paid fifteen (15) minute break each morning and a paid fifteen (15) minute afternoon break at a time compatible with the state or progress of the job as determined by the employee’s supervisor.
Employee Breaks. Full-time, twelve (12) month, eight (8) hour per day employees shall be entitled to an unpaid half hour lunch period per day. Full-time, twelve (12) month, eight (8) hour per day employees are entitled to a fifteen (15) minute break during the first four (4) hours of work per day, and a fifteen ( 15) minute break during the second four ( 4 ) hours of work each day. Employees who work five ( 5) or more but less than eight (8) hours daily, shall be entitled to one (1) thirty (30) minute duty free unpaid break daily. Employees who work less than five (5) hours per day shall not be entitled to break time. Bus drivers and Bus Aides shall not be entitled to break time as defined in this Article. Break times as outlined in this Article should, whenever possible, be arranged at the mutual convenience of the employee and the supervisor, however, the supervisor shall have the ultimate authority to control and direct all breaks. Unless it is impracticable, employees are required to accurately report all breaks on the time cards provided by the Board. Breaks must be taken at the current work site. Under no circumstances shall any employee be paid for any break time that he/she misses for any reason.
Employee Breaks. 1) Employees may have two (2) fifteen (15) minute breaks per workday, one prior to and one subsequent to the lunch period. These breaks shall normally not occur during the first hour of the workday or the last hour of the workday of the individual employee.
2) Employees are not entitled to leave 15 minutes early (up to 30 minutes if applicable) at the end of their scheduled workday because they did not take their scheduled break(s).
Employee Breaks. The rest break is recognized as a factor which contributes toward efficient employee output. To permit employees the full benefits of a break period and to avoid any unfavorable impression which may be given when a number of employees congregate in public areas, the following policy shall regulate employee breaks:
(a) Employees will be permitted a maximum fifteen minutes rest break each morning and each afternoon. Rest break time will not be accumulated.
(b) Breaks will not be taken during the first or last hour of the work shift or used to extend lunch periods.
(c) Rest breaks will be taken within the department or division areas or other areas provided by management for such purposes whenever possible.
(d) Employees at a temporary work site will be expected to remain at the work site during their rest periods unless released by their supervisors. Complaints regarding unreasonableness of supervisors in regard to rest breaks may be brought to the attention of the division head by stewards. No grievance can be filed under this provision, however the employee or Union may request an informal review by the Employee Relations Officer.

Employee Breaks. Section 61.1 The purpose of taking a break from the duties required of an employee is to diminish fatigue and thereby promote a safer work environment. Therefore, during normal work conditions, all employees are allowed, if work operations permit it, one 15-minute break within one (1) hour either way of the mid-point of the first four (4) hours of work and another 15-minute break within one (1) hour either way of the mid-point of the second four (4) hours of work.
Section 61.2 City employees should recognize that their work habits may be scrutinized by citizens and in light of this, good judgment must be followed when selecting the time and place of breaks. The following regulations are provided to diminish the citizens' misunderstanding of the purpose of employee breaks. This is not an inclusive list and common sense by the employees and supervisors must always be used:
1. Actual times of breaks shall be at the election of the appropriate supervisor, except that at no time will breaks be taken at the beginning of the work shift, immediately before the end of the work shift, be used to extend lunch periods, or be taken in conjunction with the second authorized break.
2. Breaks begin upon the ceasing of work duties and end after 15 minutes have elapsed. Any time traveling from the work site to another location and back to the work site shall be included in the 15 minutes.
3. Activities which could be misinterpreted by the public as misuse of paid work hours shall not be permitted during paid breaks.
Employee Breaks i. Each elementary employee, including elementary art, music, physical education, science, reading, and other teachers, shall have a duty-free break not to exceed fifteen (15) minutes each morning and afternoon. These breaks shall be provided following the first forty-five (45) minutes of the instructional sessions and before the forty-five (45) minutes prior to completion of the instructional sessions.
ii. Each elementary principal and employee staff will develop a plan to cover breaks on a rotating basis with all employees routinely assigned to that building. Duty assignments shall be shared equitably by all employees. However, an art, music, or physical education teacher shall not be required to perform rotating duty at more than one building.
iii. If an elementary classroom teacher has supervision responsibility during the morning session, he/she will not receive a break if released that session for art, music, or physical education. If an elementary classroom teacher has supervision responsibility during the afternoon session, he/she will not receive a break if released that session for art, music, or physical education.
iv. If a teacher on rotating duty has not received a fifteen (15) minute duty-free break, and it is not feasible to schedule a break, he/she will be provided compensatory time or payment.
Employee Breaks. Employees receive one fifteen minute break if working a 4 hour shift. • All breaks must be approved by the supervisor. No breaks will occur while customers are being served or during an actual event where there are customers present. • Taking breaks with other employees must be approved by the supervisor. We must always ensure our customers are being cared for. • Breaks will only be allowed in designated break areas-not in areas where customers are eating or meeting. • Anyone smoking on break is asked to only smoke in designated smoking areas. Designated areas at the ▇▇▇▇▇▇ Center for staff would be the South side (back) walkway leading to backstage/side doors of auditorium. The smoking area in the café is the same as the designated areas for Alumni Hall which is the north side near covered walkway and retaining wall. There will be no smoking at the front entrance or on the loading docks. Employees taking a smoke break should not exceed the fifteen minute break period and should immediately report back to work. All cigarette butts should be disposed of in a proper manner.
Employee Breaks. PBC employees are encouraged to take breaks and lunches at designated areas outside the view of JWA passengers.
Employee Breaks. The Administration and CSSSA will develop procedures for employees, prior to the beginning of each school term for the duration of this contract, for employee release from work situations, which are unusually stressful. The parties will address the issue of breaks to ensure that reasonable use of breaks will not negatively impact employment.
