Certification Differential. Nurses who obtain and maintain a nationally 17 recognized certification that is applicable to the services they provide for the 18 Employer shall receive $1.00 per hour. No additional differential is allotted for 19 more than one (1) certification. Proof of certification must be provided to the 20 Employer upon request. Certification Differential. A nurse who meets the requirements of this section 3 shall receive a three-dollar ($3.00) per hour certification differential. 4 1. The nurse must have a current nationally recognized certification on file 5 with Human Resources for the area where the nurse works a significant 6 number of hours. Initial eligibility for the certification differential will begin 7 on the first full pay period following submission to Human Resources. 8 Eligibility for the certification differential will cease beginning with the first 9 full pay period following the expiration date of the certification, unless the 10 nurse submits proof to Human Resources of certification renewal before 11 that date. If the proof is submitted to Human Resources within sixty (60) 12 days after that date, the certification differential will be paid from the 13 renewal date. If the proof is submitted Human Resources more than sixty 14 (60) days after the renewal date, the certification differential will be 15 resumed beginning with the first full pay period following the submission. 17 2. A nurse will be deemed to have worked a significant number of hours in 18 the area if at least one-half (½) of the nurse’s hours worked are in that 19 area. 21 The Medical Center may, in its discretion, determine that some lower 22 proportion of hours worked in an area qualifies as a significant number of 23 hours worked for the purposes of this section. 25 3. Only one (1) certification and one (1) certification differential will be 26 recognized at a time for the purposes of this section. 28 4. On the recommendation of the PNCC or otherwise, the Medical Center 29 may, in its discretion, specify areas and certifications; provided, however, 30 there shall not be less than one (1) certification recognized for each area 31 covered by this Agreement, including but not limited to the following: Neuroscience Certified Neuro Registered Nurse Stroke Certified Registered Nurse 1 5. If a certified nurse transfers to another department within the Medical 2 Center, the nurse will retain their certification differential for two (2) years, 3 provided their certification has not expired. After two (2) years, the nurse 4 will only be eligible for certification differential for certifications approved 5 for their current unit.

Certification Differential. Bargaining Unit Members may apply for a two percent differential for pre-approved certifications related to the member’s job duties and of benefit to the District. The certificate must be issued by a governmental unit, academic institution, or equivalent entity following a formal education program. Such qualifying training/education must be taken outside regular working hours and at the employee’s expense. Normally the pre-approval for the differential must occur in the fiscal year immediately preceding actual payment for the differential. Such payments shall commence at the beginning of the month immediately following receipt of the certificate. Generally, a Bargaining Unit Member will not be pre approved for more that one qualifying certification under this provision.

In such cases, employees may use their Pro-Card, or alternately, seek reimbursement, for the cost of a book and examination to acquire and maintain certification or recertification(s). However, if an employee is unsuccessful on any initial certification or recertification examination, the employee shall cover the costs of any subsequent examination until a passing grade is achieved, or the employee ceases to pursue the certification. Once a passing grade has been achieved, the Company shall reimburse the employee only for the cost of the book and the examination associated with the single passing examination. Time spent by an employee in employee-attained training or in preparation for such shall be on the employee’s time, and not compensable. Any courses to achieve certifications above not provided for by the Company may be reimbursed exclusively via the Company’s Tuition Reimbursement Policy.
