Instructional Faculty. The following types of instructional assignments are agreed to constitute a full instructional load for a semester using total hours as specified on an official course outline of record.
Instructional Faculty a. For instructional faculty, the guaranteed summer assignment shall be defined as ninety (90) classroom contact hours and eighteen (18) office hours. Office hours will be scheduled two or more days per week at a time convenient to students and subject to the approval of the immediate supervisor. Office hours will be reduced proportionately for faculty members teaching fewer hours than the guaranteed summer assignment. The guaranteed assignment shall be worked during the Summer semester as determined by the appropriate immediate supervisor in consultation with the faculty member. The determination of the guaranteed summer assignment shall be done in a fair and timely manner as outlined in Section 6.10.B.
Instructional Faculty. The following types of instructional assignments are agreed to constitute a full instructional load for a semester when conducted for the hours (or WSCH for independent study and work experience) specified (decimals are rounded):
Instructional Faculty. At the individual Colleges, a minimum of 60% of the total instructional load shall be taught by Residential Faculty. The residential/adjunct ratio (as defined in Article 1) for the individual Colleges will be calculated each Fall semester. During the eight to ten (8 – 10) year implementation phase commencing in Fall 2013, Colleges shall increase the number of filled Residential Faculty lines every year until the percentage of instructional load taught by Residential Faculty reaches and is maintained at 60% or higher. The guiding principles for the implementation plan as identified by the FACT team will inform the implementation phase.
Instructional Faculty. Instructional faculty are calculated pro rata from the full-time salary schedule [using thirty-five (35)] hours per week as the basis for full-time if:
1. Part of an instructional program which is continuous through a period greater than three
Instructional Faculty. The workweek for instructional faculty shall be thirty-seven (37) hours which will include thirty (30) hours for primary assignment activities (instruction and preparation time), five (5) hours per week for designated office hours and two (2) hours for professional activities/college service.
Instructional Faculty a. The peer evaluator and/or the administrator will observe at least one of the instructor’s classes. The classes to be observed will be mutually agreed upon. If the instructor teaches any correspondence courses, the I.S.P. Director will work with the peer evaluator to choose three representative samples of correspondence coursework to evaluate. The instructor will also choose three representative samples of coursework to be evaluated in lieu of an in-person observation.
b. The evaluator(s) will summarize their observations using Form B.
Instructional Faculty. During the designated evaluation year, the instructional faculty member will select either written student evaluations or Student Guided Instructional Diagnosis (SGID) for a specified class and quarter. The SGID or written student evaluation shall take place after the 10th class day and prior to the 35th class day. If the SGID is not completed by the 35th class day, written student evaluations will be completed by the 40th class day. If neither the SGID nor written student evaluations are completed in the agreed upon time frame, this component will not be subject to review until the next evaluation cycle.
Instructional Faculty. A. Teaching faculty members shall be responsible for the following:
1. Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities.
2. Teach courses in accordance with the course information form (CIF), course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules.
3. Develop a current course syllabus and submit it to the Instruction office prior to the start of the quarter.
4. Evaluate student academic work, including assessment of students during the College’s scheduled ‘finals week’.
5. Submit final grades by the designated deadline.
6. Interpret placement test scores to make placement decisions, following college policy.
7. Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures.
8. Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
9. Full-time faculty will conduct program/transfer advising for 40 new students each academic year. Senior Associate faculty will advise 18 students each academic year pro-rata, up to 1.000 of their teaching load.
10. Full-time and Senior Associate Faculty shall maintain regular office hours for consultation with students.
B. Advising Faculty members shall be responsible for the following:
1. Provide general entry academic advising.
2. Provide continued academic advising in specific programs in collaboration with the Department Chair and others within the department.
3. Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
4. Interpret test scores to make placement decisions, following college policy.
5. Work on an alternative calendar (may include evenings, summer and time between quarters) as required to meet student needs. (Probationary Faculty on a tenure track will be excluded from an alternative calendar.)
6. Faculty Advisors will be assigned to teach a minimum of four (4) credit hours per academic year. Each assigned class will include one (1) hour of prep per credit which will count towards their required 30 contact hours.
7. May conduct advising training.
Instructional Faculty. 7.7.5.1.1 Straight lecture mode: 15 contact hours average per quarter, 45 annually.
7.7.5.1.2 Science lecture/lab mode: 16 contact hours average per quarter, 48 annually.
7.7.5.1.3 Performance lecture/lab mode: 18 contact hours average per quarter, 54 annually.
7.7.5.1.4 Skills lecture/lab mode: 20 contact hours average per quarter, 60 annually.
7.7.5.1.5 Clinical lecture/lab mode: 20 contact hours average per quarter, 60 annually.
7.7.5.1.6 Occupational lecture/lab mode: 23 contact hours average per quarter, 69 annually.
7.7.5.1.7 Assignments which do not require lecture or lecture/lab combinations: 25 contact hours weekly.
7.7.5.1.8 Not more than nine (9) hours per day shall elapse between the beginning of the first class and the end of the last class taught by a full-time faculty member unless the extension of this time span is necessary to provide the faculty member with a full-time assignment or unless the faculty member is being compensated for more than a full-time assignment on an extra-contractual basis.
