The "Overtime Hours Worked" clause defines how additional hours worked beyond the standard work schedule are managed and compensated. Overtime Hours Worked. Overtime hours are not to exceed 24 hours in one week’s schedule (a total of 64 hours worked for the week). (j) Employees on a Permanent Afternoon or Night Shift receive the N.S.P. rate for their shift ($1.00 or $1.50 per hour) in addition to their regular hourly rate of pay for holiday, vacation, bereavement time and jury duty compensation.
(k) Employees Permanently on Continually Rotating Shifts receive the average N.S.P. rate of eighty-three ($0.83) cents per hour in addition to their regular hourly rate of pay for holiday, vacation, bereavement time and jury duty compensation. The Employer has included in the group of employees permanently on continuously rotating shifts any employee who rotates shifts at least one (1) week in each five (5) weeks.
(l) Employees Temporarily Assigned to Afternoon or Night Shift Work receive the N.S.P. ($1.00 or $1.50 per hour) of the shift they are working on in addition to their regular hourly wage rate for funeral time, jury duty and holiday pay only occurring while they are so assigned.
Overtime Hours Worked. 1. The City and Association agree that all unit classifications are properly exempted from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. However, NBFMA members may be required to work additional floor shifts in excess of their regular work schedule. Effective July 1, 2016, off-duty employees in the Battalion Chief classification who are assigned by the Fire Chief or designee to additional fire suppression work shift for an emergency assignment, or to replace another Battalion Chief who is on an approved leave, will receive overtime pay equal to one-and-one-half times’ the employees base rate of pay. Use of Flex Leave, Comp Time, or other paid leaves are not considered hours worked for the purpose of determining overtime eligibility. Regular staff meetings or other assignments will not be eligible for overtime at the 1½ rate and shifts exchanges between two Battalion Chiefs do not qualify for overtime compensation.

Contract Overtime shall consist of authorized work in excess of a unit member’s normal number of work hours in any scheduled work shift, and shall be paid one-and-one-half times the employee’s regular rate of pay. Use of Flex Leave shall be considered as hours worked for the purposes of determining eligibility for Contract Overtime pay. Leave Without Pay shall not be considered as hours worked for determining Contract Overtime eligibility.
2. Temporary vacancies in line positions shall be selected in accordance with Department S.O.P.
3. Qualified employees wishing to work voluntary overtime in a class lower than their current class (downgrade) may volunteer to do so and shall be compensated at one and one-half times the highest hourly rate for the position as published in the City's compensation plan. Said employees shall be selected according to the provisions set forth in the Department's Standard Operating Procedures related to staffing and overtime. This provision applies only to persons wishing to downgrade to the position of Firefighter, Fire Engineer or Paramedic.
4. Personnel assigned to staff assignments may request compensatory time off in lieu of paid overtime with the approval of the Department. Compensatory time may be granted, subject to maximum accrual of eighty (80) hours, and subject to Department consideration of the impact of said CTO use on overtime liability and other efficiency requirements of the Department.
