Special Allowances. 15.01 There shall be two (2) ten minute rest periods during each working day being one
(1) in the forenoon and one (1) in the afternoon. An additional ten (10) minute rest period will be granted at the end of a normal work shift when overtime to be worked is two (2) hours. Further breaks of ten (10) minutes will be granted at two (2) hour intervals.
Special Allowances.
10.1 For the purpose of this section, a special allowance is an amount of money over and above the regular salary paid to a teacher in a Division office-based role or assignment.
10.2 A PSTA member who holds a position of Coordinator shall receive the Coordinator Allowance.
10.3 The Coordinator Allowance will be based on the principal allowance, as recognized in the teacher Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement. The number of teachers recognized to calculate the allowance will equal the total number of schools in PSSD.
10.3.1 At no time will the Coordinator Allowance be less than a principal’s allowance of the largest PSSD school.
10.4 A PSTA member who holds a position of Supervisor shall receive the Coordinator Allowance plus an additional twenty percent (20%) of the Coordinator Allowance.
10.5 In order to address the recruitment and retention of speech and language pathologists and registered psychologists (provisional) an allowance will be provided based on the following:
10.5.1 The allowance will be based on the member’s placement on the salary schedule for teachers in the teacher Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement.
10.5.2 For the first year of employment an allowance of 6% will be provided.
10.5.3 For the second year and beyond an allowance of 10% will be provided.
10.6 In order to address the recruitment and retention of registered psychologists, an allowance will be provided based on the following:
10.6.1 The allowance will be based on the member’s placement on the salary schedule for teachers in the teacher Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement.
10.6.2 For the first year of employment an allowance of 11% will be provided.
10.6.3 For the second year, and beyond an allowance of 15% will be provided.
Special Allowances. (a) A registered nurse in charge during the day, evening or night of a hospital having a daily average of occupied beds of less than 100 shall be paid, in addition to her or his appropriate salary, whilst so in charge, the sum set out in Table 2 - Other Rates and Allowances, of Part B Monetary Rates, per shift.
(b) A registered nurse in charge of a shift in a ▇▇▇▇ or unit during the day, evening or night in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager shall be paid, in addition to her or his appropriate salary whilst so in charge the sum set out in Table 2-Other Rates & Allowances, per shift. This subclause shall only apply where the registered nurse is in charge of one or more other nurses in the ▇▇▇▇ or unit in question.
(c) This subclause shall not apply to registered nurses holding classified positions of a higher grade than that of registered nurse.
(a) An employee required by their employer to be on call otherwise than as provided for in paragraph (b) shall be paid the sum set out in Table 2 for each period of 24 hours or part thereof provided that only one allowance shall be payable in any period of 24 hours.
(b) An employee required to be on call on rostered days off in accordance with subclause 6.15(b) of Clause 6, Hours of Work and Free Time of Employees other than Directors of Nursing, shall be paid the sum set out in Table 2 for each period of 24 hours or part thereof provided that only one allowance shall be payable in any period of 24 hours.
(c) An employee who is directed to remain on call during a meal break shall be paid an allowance of the sum set out in Table 2 provided that no allowance shall be paid if, during a period of 24 hours including such period of on call, the employee is entitled to receive the allowance prescribed in 12.2(a) above. If an employee is recalled to duty during such meal break, they shall be paid at overtime rates for the total period of the meal break.
(d) Where an employee on call leaves the hospital and is recalled to duty, they shall be reimbursed all reasonable fares and expenses actually incurred provided that where an employee uses a motor car in these circumstances the allowance payable shall be the rate set out in Table 2. The provisions of this paragraph shall apply to all employees.
(e) This subclause shall not apply to a Director of Nursing, Subsidiary Hospital Director of Nursing, Deputy Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.

Special Allowances.
13.1 TEMPORARY WORK IN A HIGHER CLASSIFICATION
a. Temporary assignments to higher classifications shall be permitted only in those classifications where in the judgment of the Department Head or designee, it is necessary to maintain proper and efficient departmental operations. An employee temporarily assigned to perform the duties of a higher classification shall be compensated for the duration of the out-of- classification assignment by the payment of five percent (5.0%) of the regular salary the employee received prior to the out-of-classification assignment, or the salary provided for in Step 1, as applicable, of the higher classification, whichever is greater, but not to exceed top step of the higher classification. Departments may establish internal tracking and approval systems for out-of- classification pay administration.
b. Temporary work in a higher classification shall first be offered to qualified career employees who volunteer. If no career employee desires the temporary work in a higher classification, management may assign a career or non- career employee.
c. Management will seek to distribute temporary assignments in a higher classification among all qualified employees who volunteer, providing that to do so would not cause disruption to the operation.
d. The City recognizes that temporary work in a higher classification shall not be used as a device for circumventing career civil service positions.
13.2 TUITION REIMBURSEMENT The City agrees to reimburse career employees for the cost of tuition, books, and fees, excluding parking, up to a maximum of $1,500.00 per calendar year pursuant to the City's existing policy for such education reimbursement. This provision shall not apply to employees eligible for an educational incentive program. In addition, the Department may authorize tuition reimbursement for training through other approved sources.
13.3 FORENSIC IDENTIFICATION CERTIFICATION PAY
a. Career employees in the classifications of Forensic Investigator I and II who receive certification by the I.A.I. (International Association for Identification) as a Certified Forensic Artist shall receive five percent (5.0%) of their base rate of pay for Forensic Artist Certification Pay.
b. Career employees in the classifications of Forensic Investigator II and Lead Forensic Investigator shall receive fifteen percent (15.0%) of their base rate of pay for incentive compensation calculated upon the base salary for possessing a Latent Print Examiner...
Special Allowances. 19.1 A registered nurse in charge of the Day Procedure Centre shall be paid, in addition to their appropriate salary, whilst so in charge, the sum set out in Item 2 of Table 2 - Other Rates and Allowances, of Part B Monetary Rates, per shift.
19.2 An employee who is directed to remain on call during a meal break shall be paid an allowance of the sum set out in Item 1 of Table 2 provided that no allowance shall be paid if, during a period of 24 hours including such period of on call, the employee is entitled to receive the allowance prescribed in
Special Allowances. 16.1 Where a member is required to remain on duty for four (4) hours in excess of his normal tour of duty, he shall be entitled to receive a meal allowance of $15.00 and for each additional four (4) hours of continuous duty a further meal allowance of $15.00.
16.2 Members shall be reimbursed for any amount reasonably spent on parking while on duty outside the Regional Municipality of York. Members, who are on duty outside The Regional Municipality of York for a minimum of three (3) hours, shall thereafter be reimbursed for an amount reasonably spent on meals while on duty outside The Regional Municipality of York to a maximum entitlement as follows:
1. Breakfast (between the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) - $15.00
2. Lunch (between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) - $15.00
3. Dinner (between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.) - $25.00 Under no circumstances will any reimbursement be provided for alcoholic beverages. Receipts will be required for reimbursement of parking and meal costs. If an employee is required to be outside The Regional Municipality of York over a period during which they would be entitled to claim a full day of meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), he may elect to be paid a total per diem meal allowance equivalent to the combined total of the rates for the three meals. For clarity, under this option the member may be reimbursed above the maximum entitlement for a single meal as long as his daily maximum does not exceed $55. Receipts will be required. When a member is approved by a supervisor to travel to and from Ontario Police College during hours he is not scheduled to be working he shall be compensated for two (2) hours of travel time each way at his regular rate of pay. When a member is approved by a supervisor to travel to and from Canadian Police College during hours he is not scheduled to be working he shall be compensated for four (4) hours of travel time each way at his regular rate of pay.
