The CESU network seeks to provide scientifically-based information on the nature and status of selected biological, physical, and cultural resources occurring within the parks in a form that increases its utility for making management decisions, conducting scientific research, educating the public, developing effective monitoring programs, and developing management strategies for resource protection. Studying the resources present in NPS parks benefits the Recipient’s goal of advancing knowledge through scientific discovery, integration, application, and teaching, which lead toward a holistic understanding of our environmental and natural resources. The Recipient is a research university, sharing research, educational, and technological strengths with other institutions. Through inter-institutional collaboration, combined with the unique contributions of each constituent institution, the Recipient strives to contribute substantially to the cultural, economic, environmental, scientific, social and technological advancement of the nation. For performance under this cooperative agreement, the regulations set forth in 2 CFR, Part 200, supersedes OMB Circulars A–21 (2 CFR 220), A–87 (2 CFR 225), A–110, and A–122 (2 CFR 230); Circulars A–89, A–102, and A–133; and the guidance in Circular A–50 on Single Audit Act follow–up apply. 1. Develop a lift accessed downhill mountain bike trail network on SKM. Through this grant initiative, SKM will construct new downhill mountain biking trails and associated bike features on the mountain. In addition, grant funds will be used to build a number of bridges over existing hiker and equestrian trails so that downhill mountain bikers can ride separately from existing users of the mountain. This project will focus on constructing bike trails on private and Town land in Phase I and trails on National Forest Service land in Phase II. Phase II will consist of a second round of WBC funding following the successful completion of this grant. Measurable indicators of the success of this project include the number of downhill biker days on the mountain, the number of new mountain bike related events hosted on the mountain, and the revenue associated with both.
2. Improve in-ground snowmaking infrastructure on SKM to ▇▇▇▇▇▇ a better skier experience. Snowmaking has proven to be a necessity in order to keep sufficient snow on the ground through the duration of the ski season. Therefore, in order to provide a high quality ski experience for the community, it is necessary to further develop the snowmaking capacity on the mountain. Snowmaking improvements will facilitate the construction and maintenance of a high quality winter terrain park, allowing SKM to expand winter activity options and capitalize on a niche that fits the company’s position within the market. In addition, through the construction of snowmaking lines to the summit of the mountain, the community will be better protected in the case of future forest fires. Furthermore, snowmaking lines to the summit will facilitate the future development of the Panorama House building through access to water for restroom and cooking facilities. 4.2.3 The proposed multi-purpose synthetic turf field shall be designed in a manner that meets FGBC requirements and certification, which is also durable, easy to maintain, and delivers excellent safety and performance capabilities.
4.2.4 With regards to the aquatic complex, the goal is to build a facility designed to meet the stringent needs of competitive swimming, while also creating an inviting environment of fun and relaxation for the City’s residents and visitors alike. Moreover, the design features must also incorporate elements intended to reduce the long-term maintenance and operational costs of the aquatic facility for the City.
PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. It is the intention of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to construct a new administrative building at the main entrance to BNL. The building will house various administrative staff from around BNL and will also include a badging center and large conference space for the BNL community. The objective of the SUSC project will be to build between 70,000 – 100,000 Gross Square Footage (GSF) of space to accommodate administrative personnel in an office environment. In addition, the conference space shall hold between 150-400 people in an open, flat, and reconfigurable space to allow for large or multiple functions at the same time. All utilities necessary for the building will either be brought to the building location from local sources or generated at the building (e.g., chilled water). The preliminary Key Performance Parameters (KPP) to which the project shall align are expressed in terms of GSF of the facility. The facility shall be constructed with range of 70,000 to 120,000 GSF. The facility will be designed to meet or exceed High Performance Sustainable Building (HPSB) Guiding Principles as outlined in DOE G 413.3-6, Program and Project Management for the Acquisition of Capital Assets. Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification is not required for this project. Construction shall be phased to align with the Department of Energy(DOE) Office of Science’s projected funding profile.

The project goals are to alleviate the flooding in the park and the surrounding community, minimize the demand on the Biscayne aquifer for potable water and reduce the contamination of surface water and groundwater. The potable water for this 5-acre project site is currently provided by the City of Fort Lauderdale’s ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ Treatment Plant which draws groundwater from the Biscayne Aquifer at the Prospect Wellfield. As this project aims to utilize the captured stormwater as irrigation, in lieu of potable water, the withdraw demand on the Biscayne Aquifer will be subsequently reduced by approximately 40 million gallons of water per year. The City Park site is located within the SFWMD North Fork Middle River Basin, in the heart of an industrial district and known contaminated sites. Stormwater runoff is a known conduit that can collect and transport various contaminates/ pollutants from the source directly into our waterways. The construction of this stormwater capture system would allow the capture of stormwater runoff before it can accumulate harmful contaminants and transport them to waterways.
